《What's Your Diagnosis, Doc?》Chapter 41 - Birthday Fun and Future Talk

I had never really done much on my birthday. I just went out with my parents and sometimes with Jordi in the past. But for the past few years, I only got birthday calls from my parents. I didn't do anything.

Now, suddenly, I wake up on my birthday to kisses all over my face from Gabe, and a delicious breakfast made by the most amazing man ever. He had somehow figured out that it was my birthday and the crazy man bought me a cute bracelet and an amazing car.

Then he took me to see an amazing house which I was not letting us miss out on. We were buying that gorgeous house, no matter what.

As soon as we left the house, I could tell how nervous Gabe was about my decision.

"So? What do you think?" He asked me as we walked back towards the mansion.

"The house?" I asked him.

"Yeah." He nodded.

"I hate the carpet flooring, it has more rooms and bathrooms than we need and the backyard is huge... why do we need a huge backyard?" I asked him, just teasing him a little.

"Because the twins and Nora might want to come play in the yard, if I ever need to babysit, I can do it at our place. And the rooms and bathrooms are a good thing, sometimes someone might want to stay over, so we need spare rooms and bathrooms." Gabe explained to me.

I laughed and looked up at him, thinking how adorable he was. His eyes scanned my face and a smile formed on his face.

"You're so beautiful." He said, which I really wasn't expecting him to say.

"Aw, thanks, baby. You're so, so, so beautiful!" I smiled.

"I'm a really lucky man, Ava. Thank you for making me so happy and motivated." Gabe said.

"I make you happy and motivated?" I asked him.

"Yeah. I'm so happy with you, I feel like myself, I feel safe... and I also feel motivated, motivated because I want to build the best future with you." He told me.

"I love you, Gabe and I love the house." I said to him, stopping and pulling my man in for a kiss. He was so happy about the house, he immediately called the real estate agent to tell her we wanted the house.

I was super excited to move in and so was he. I couldn't wait to pack up and move into the new house.

When we arrived at the mansion, all the girls were gathered there, and apparently we were going out to celebrate. When I mentioned my shift at the clinic that afternoon, Rico came out and told me not to worry about it. He quickly left for his own shift and then it was time for me to leave with the girls.

I turned to Gabriel and he smiled at me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"What's wrong? Go have fun with the girls, baby." He said to me.

"But then I won't see you." I sighed.

He leaned forward and he kissed my neck, making me shiver.

"You'll see me tonight, for our date." He said to me.

"We're going on a date?!" I asked excitedly.

"Yup. The best date that you've ever been on. It'll be so fun, I promise you that." He teased.

"I won last time with go-karting." I reminded him.

"Well, I'm going to win this time and on your birthday too. Ready for a birthday defeat?" He teased.

"You wish." I giggled, pulling him down and kissing him deeply.

I couldn't believe how lucky I was to be with this man and have this amazing family standing behind me in everything.

"Go have fun, I love you, baby." Gabe said, kissing me one last time and then leaving me with the girls.

"So? What do you all think of some adventure?" Hazel said.

Everyone seemed excited, we were all dressed nicely, and we were prepared to go out and have some fun. We went to some local trials and we walked through the woods. It was actually really fun. We all seemed to branch out into smaller groups and then some people rotated between groups. I got to know a lot more about each of the girls. After walking around on the trails for a while, taking loads of pictures and talking to everyone, we all found a beautiful little spot to sit down and have some food. After we ate and had some more fun, especially with Mia, Mila and Eleanor, we were able to get back to the cars.

No one would tell me where we were going, but we ended up at a helicopter pad and there were helicopters waiting for us. I was confused, and then the thought struck me that we might be going to the island that Gabe mentioned a few times.

Kiara and Juliet stayed back with me, so did Nora. The others went off to set something up at our destination. We sat in a little building with a couch in it and we talked while we waited for the helicopters to return for us.

Kiara asked me about Gabe and I and how we were doing and I told her we were great. Juliet asked about whether we wanted kids, since both of us worked and my job was pretty demanding, she was curious.

"So, do you think you two will have kids? Being a doctor must be a lot of work and kids are hard to handle." She said.

"I know Gabe always wanted them, but as much as I love kids, I'd hate to neglect my child in any way because of work, and I honestly just don't have time for much other than my relationship and work. So... I told Gabe how I didn't plan on ever having a kid and he said he was fine with it." I explained.

"Do you think you'll ever change your mind?" Kiara asked me.

"I might. It just means a lot to me to be able to support myself and my husband, and right now I still feel like kids can't be part of the equation, but you never really know what life will bring and if I ever feel like I can take more time off work or maybe lessen my workload, maybe I'd be willing to think about it. But, we'll see... right now I don't see kids in my future." I explained.

"I don't think that's a problem. Gabe loves you, Ava, and I think that he's going to mind not having kids. Besides, the rest of us seem to be planning on having kids so he'll get to babysit and help raise them." Kiara smiled.

"Yeah, I know he was upset at first, I think... but now he really doesn't seem to care. I feel like I care more about it than him." I said.

"You want my honest opinion?" Juliet asked me.

"Yeah." I nodded my head.

"Being a parent is amazing, it's this feeling you can't get from anything else. You don't necessarily have to conceive the kid, just knowing it's your baby to protect, to teach, to nurture and look after. It's special, and you knew that already didn't you?" Juliet asked me, seeing right through me.

"I did. But I can live without it." I said, even though part of me was beginning to realize that maybe kids were worth taking some time off work and letting my husband look after me.

"You're right, you can. And if that's what you want, then go ahead and don't let anyone stop you or tell you otherwise." Juliet said to me. "But is it really what you want, Ava?"

"I don't know, I don't want my child to be neglected in any way, I want my child to have a mother and a father and for both of them to be present in their life, but I can't do that." I explained, knowing that it wasn't like me to let myself live off of my husband's money and hard work.

"Ava, you've always wanted to be a doctor, right?" Juliet asked me.

"Yeah." I nodded.

"And people told you you couldn't, people doubted you, but you're a strong woman and you wanted to show that to them." Juliet said to me.

"Yeah." I nodded, wondering where this was going.

"So, is it just that you're afraid being a mother and staying at home for a while will make you seem like the weak girl they all thought you were?" Juliet asked me.

"No... but I need to make money to support Gabe and I." I said.

"Ava... look around you." Kiara said with a chuckle.

"You're about to get on a helicopter that our family owns, they also own several branches of a huge corporation, mansions, an island.... Wake up, Sister.... you could never work another day in your life and still live like an absolute queen." Juliet said to me.

"I can't just live off of the family." I argued.

"No one said you had to... if you want kids you can have kids and just decrease your work hours whenever you need more time with your kid. Juliet works, Romeo works, and they're both raising this little cutie so well." Kiara said.

"But having a baby is so different. I mean, I'd have to take maternity leave until I have the baby, and then my newborn is definitely going to need me... and it'll be like quitting my job." I sighed.

"Ava... life has given you this amazing family, with a hot, rich man by your side in everything you do. If you want a kid. Stop overthinking. Just have a child if you want one." Juliet chuckled.

"I don't know.... I definitely don't want one now... maybe later on in my life." I shrugged.

"Just don't let what people said in your past or what others think control what you do with your own life. The goal here is for you to be as happy as you can be. Ok?" Juliet told me.

"Thanks, Julie." I smiled, deciding that I'd try to be more open minded about a kid.

"Julie? Is that my name now?" Juliet chuckled.

"Yes!" Kiara smiled, letting Nora climb into her lap.

"I think it suits you, Momma." Nora smiled.

"Oh, my sweet baby. What would I do without you, huh?" Juliet asked, squishing her daughters cheeks and kissing her forehead.

"You would be sad because I wasn't around to make sure you told Daddy you loved him." Nora said to her mother.

Juliet shook her head in amusement.

"I'm not wrong, Momma." Nora insisted.

"Ok, baby. You're not wrong." Juliet chuckled.

"Are we gonna have fun?!" Kiara asked Nora, making Nora giggle and cheer.

"The most fun in the world!" She screeched.

"Where are we going?" I asked them.

"Somewhere beautiful... the girls are over there setting up." Juliet told me.

"Setting what up?" I asked.

"Setting something special up." Kiara told me, wiggling her eyebrows.

I laughed and decided to ask her how everything was going to her and Vidal.

"How are you and Vidal doing?" I asked her, remembering how the idiot hadn't told her he loved her after being in an actual romantic relationship with her for months.

"Good. You've seen Splash, right?" She asked me.

"No. Who's Splash?" I asked her.

"My bunny! He got me a bunny, finally!" Kiara cheered, taking out her phone and showing me pictures of a chubby little bunny.

"Oh, he's so cute!" I smiled.

"Right?! He didn't want a bunny, but once we got Splash, he went crazy over the little guy." Kiara smiled, suddenly reminding me of my progression with Gabe.

"Oh wait! I didn't tell you guys!" I said.

"What?" Kiara asked.

"Gabe and I found our new place!" I cheered, almost bouncing in my chair.

"Finally! It took you two so long!" Juliet said with a smile.

"I know. I just saw it this morning with him, and it's so perfect. It's really close to the mansion and it has the most amazing backyard. You're gonna love the backyard, Nora." I said to her.

"Can Gabey build a hammock and a swing set?!" Nora asked.

"My child is a spoiled princess!" Juliet exclaimed in slight amusement.

"Hey! I'm just asking, Momma! Besides, Gabey likes me, so I think he will build me and the twins a swing set." Nora said.

"I think you and I can convince him." I chuckled, giving Nora a high-five.

"Yay! It's gonna be so fun at your house! I wanna visit you all the time!" Nora said.

"I think that would be awesome." I chuckled.

"And can Mia and Mila come too? They're fun to tease." Nora giggled.

"Aw, that's mean." Juliet said.

"Nu-uh... they're my cousins, I can tease them because they're still babies." Nora insisted.

"What about if someone else teased them?" Kiara asked.

"No! No one can tease them! Only me. I'm their cousin!" Nora insisted.

"You're the big girl in the family now, huh?" I asked.

"Yup. But Ava, I have a question." Nora said.

"What is it?" I asked.

"What about the girl at school that is always sad?" Nora asked.

"The girl at school that's always sad?" I asked in confusion.

"Yeah. Her and I had blueberries together at lunch on Friday." Nora told me.

"Why was she sad?" I asked.

"I don't know... she wouldn't talk to me, she was just scared and she was hanging onto Gabey... she was very sad and scared." Nora told me.

"What was her name?" I asked.

"Lily." Nora said.

"Oh, yeah. Lily has some trouble talking to people... but what about her? Why are you asking?" Ava asked.

"I think that she's a lot like you." Nora told me.

"That's what Gabe says all the time." I chuckled.

"Yeah, she's always with Gabey, and she likes to tease him like you do... I think he thinks she's cute. And Gabey thinks you're cute too." Nora said to me.

"I have to meet this girl." I laughed.

"Yeah, that's why you're gonna take me to the fair, so you can see Gabey and you can meet Lily, and play with me in the water!" Nora said.

I chuckled and nodded.

"Sounds like a plan." I laughed.

After about two hours of sitting there and talking, which honestly wasn't boring at all, the helicopter returned and off we were to wherever it was taking us. Flying over the ocean was very cool, it was so pretty. When we landed, sure enough, it was on that island that Gabe always talked about, and I was flabbergasted. It was gorgeous. Before we landed, I caught a glimpse of some crops, a big soccer field, the huge villa and lots and two beaches.

"Wow... you're kidding, right?" I asked.

"I know its insane, right?" Juliet asked as Nora ran off to the beach where the twins were hanging out with Ari. "Are you ready for the best birthday ever?"

I chuckled in disbelief and nodded before Kiara grabbed my hand and dragged me down from the helicopter pad and to the beach in front of the huge villa. I had a feeling this would be amazing.
