《What's Your Diagnosis, Doc?》Chapter 37 - Stomach Aches and Sneaking About

Our trip had come to an end, and it was time to return to Vancouver, but I made the mistake of eating some fries from a fast food place and the pain I felt in my stomach was worse than any pain I'd ever had. I knew I shouldn't have eaten them, but they smelled and tasted amazing. Ava was very upset with me because she had told me deliberately not to eat them and I hadn't listened.
"Why do you do this?" She sighed as I finally settled on the bed in the guest room.
"They smelled good." I said. "And they tasted good."
"Gabe! Now look at you though!" She groaned.
"It's just my stomach." I sighed.
"I've got to go get your tonic, I'll be right back." She said to me.
I nodded and just curled up, holding my stomach in pain. Ava came back with my tonic and loads of water. She got in bed beside me and handed me the tonic. I drank it down and then I drank a bunch of water.
"You ok?" She asked me, kissing me gently.
I smiled at her and nodded. My stomach still hurt, but I could tell the tonic was doing it's magic.
"I'll be ok, baby. You can go to bed now. We have a flight in the morning." I said softly, brushing a few strands of her beautiful brown hair back behind her head.
"I love you." She said to me, kissing my forehead.
"I love you, Doc." I smiled, kissing her cheek.
"Do you want me to stay in here tonight? You're sick, so Dad isn't going to mind." She said to me.
"No, it's ok. You can go, but just stay here with me for a little longer." I smiled, holding her close.
"Does it help to rub your belly?" She asked, rubbing over my abs with her hand.
"Are you doing that to help with my stomach pain or are you trying to feel me up?" I chuckled.
"A little of both." She giggled.
"Well, what do you think?" I asked her.
"Your muscles are a lot more defined than one would think." She said, kissing me.
"I assume that you like that?" I asked her.
"I do." She smiled. "I still haven't seen you shirtless, which we should change soon by going to the beach." She told me.
"Baby, it's going to be cold as hell when we get back. I don't think you want to go to the beach." I told her.
"Do you sleep with a shirt on?" She asked me.
"Not always... but if it's cold, yes." I said to her.
"Alright, well then I'll make sure our bedroom is extra toasty when we move in together." She giggled.
"Hm... plotting against me, are you, Doc?" I chuckled.
"Nah... never." She said, leaning down and kissing me.
The kiss turned more and more intimate until we were just making out. Ava's hand was still running across my abdomen, her fingers tracing patterns over my muscles. It was very blissful, if I wasn't in pain, I might've flipped us over and dominated for a little while, but I was perfectly content just laying back with Ava half on top of me, kissing me senseless.
It was pretty late and we had a flight the next morning, but I wasn't in the mood for sleep. Ava eventually stopped kissing me and got up.
"I'll see you in the morning, ok?" She asked me, stroking my hair back.

"Ok." I nodded, kissing her forearm as she played with my hair for one last moment.
"I love you, good night." She smiled.
"Good night, baby. I love you too." I said softly.
She ran off and I just laid in bed, I was unable to sleep, but pretty tired and I didn't really want to move. My stomach pain had died down quite a bit. I starting thinking of Ava, wishing I'd just asked her to stay. After a full hour of laying there, unable to sleep, I heard the floorboards outside of my room creek and then the door opened quietly and Ava walked in. She shut the door and she ran at the bed. She giggled at me and took my hand.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" She asked me quietly.
"I don't know. I can't sleep. I wished I asked you to stay." I said to her.
"Come to my bedroom." She whispered with a smile.
"Can't we just stay here?" I asked her.
"No. Come on... I want you to spend the night in my old bedroom." She chuckled.
"Ok." I said in amusement, getting up and following her out of the bedroom. I went to hers and I got into her bed with her. She giggled and laid back happily.
"Are you feeling better?" She asked me.
"A little." I smiled.
"Come here." She said, trying to pull me to rest against her shoulder. I smiled and kissed her, getting on top of her and then laying down with my head on her stomach. She started playing with my hair.
"Go to sleep." She said to me.
I nodded, taking her free hand and tracing her knuckles, kissing her hand every now and then. Eventually, I started to drift off to sleep.
When I woke up the next morning, I felt like my stomach was back to normal. Ava was still asleep though. She was sleeping against my side, my arm holding her tightly against my chest. I planted a kiss on her forehead and then I grabbed my phone. That's when I saw a text from Theo.
T - Call me when you can.
I knew something was wrong, so I called him.
"Hey, Gabe." He said.
"Hey, what's going on?" I asked him.
"Alright... well, I have a new niece." Theo said to me.
"What? Did Vidal get Kiara pregnant? Is Ari pregnant again?" I asked.
"No one is pregnant... or at least that's not what I'm talking about." Theo said.
"What are you talking about then?" I asked him.
"I'm talking about how Remi got into an accident and like... broke his arm and stuff, but he's fine and he has a girlfriend... and a kid." Theo told me.
"Uhm, what?!" I asked in complete shock.
"Yup. Remi has a kid." Theo chuckled.
"He got in an accident?! Is he ok?" I asked.
"He's fine... just has a little bit of a concussion and his arm is broken or something." Theo told me.
"And he has a kid? Since when?" I asked in shock.
"Well, he likes this girl, who has a kid, it's complicated, but they're together now." Theo told me.
"So it's not his biological child.... right?" I asked.
"Right. But she's basically a miniature version of Remi... you have to meet this kid, she's hilarious." Theo said to me.
"Ok, ok... how old is this child?" I asked.
"Like four... five... I'm not sure." He chuckled.

"Ok, ok... how about I just see what's happening when I get there, I have a flight back in a few hours." I told him.
"Sounds good. See ya, Gabe." He chuckled.
"See ya." I said, laughing and shaking my head.
Ava woke up around half an hour after me and we cuddled in bed for a little while. I always loved waking up with her beside me and getting kisses and cuddles first thing in the morning. But I didn't get it very often.
We said goodbye to her parents who thankfully loved me after our stay together. I made them promise they'd come visit and they told me they were planning a trip sometime soon. I told them they should visit in the summer.
It wasn't long before we took off and I told Ava about Remi on our flight back. When we landed it was morning in Vancouver. We went straight to the hospital to see Remi, and we found Hazel there with Remi. He had a little girl cuddled up in his lap as well. It was one of the most adorable things I'd ever witnessed.
"Who's the little munchkin?" I asked.
"She's Juliet's daughter." Hazel smiled.
"And I assume Romeo and Juliet are together?" I chuckled.
"Yes they are." Hazel chuckled.
"Is he ok?" I asked.
"Yeah, he's alright. His arm is broken in a few places, but he's alright." Hazel smiled.
"You can go home now, if you want. I slept for a while on the plane so I'm all rested, do you want to go home and rest?" I asked Hazel, seeing how exhausted she looked.
"I don't know if I want to leave him." Hazel sighed.
"It's ok, I'm sure he's perfectly fine. I'll be here to make sure he gets everything he needs. Go home and rest and then if you want you can come back later." Ava said.
Hazel nodded and got up, hugging me and Ava and then kissing Romeo on the forehead before she left.
"Oh, and don't be alarmed by Juliet when she comes in here." Hazel chuckled.
"Got it." I laughed, waving to my crazy big sister as she left.
I sat in the chair and Ava sat down beside me.
"She's so cute." Ava chuckled.
"She is." I laughed. "Are you tired? You barely slept on the flight."
"I'm alright for now. I have one last day off anyway, so, it's all good." She said.
"Alright, you wanna sleep over tonight?" I asked her.
"No. You sleep over at my place, you have school tomorrow morning anyway, don't you?" She asked me.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Perfect. My apartment is closer to the school." She said.
"Alright. Your place it is." I chuckled.
"Hey. Who are you guys?" I heard a sleepy little girl say. "Daddy, wake up there's strangers."
The little girl pushed on Remi's chest and he opened his eyes, frowning.
"Oh, hey guys." He said, sounding pretty tired.
"Hi." Ava smiled and I shook my head at him with a sigh.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to be crazy?" I asked him.
"Every day for the rest of your life." Remi told me with a smile.
"Daddy! Who are they?" The little one asked.
"This is my uncle Gabe... and his girlfriend Ava." Remi told her. "And this is Nora, my little munchkin."
"I'm not a munchkin, daddy... I don't munch." She said.
"Oh, yes you do, you munch on your food all the time, don't you?" He asked her.
"Well, I don't have any food to munch on right now." She said.
"Hm... why don't you and I go get you something to munch on?" I asked her.
"I don't want to. I want to go with Firefly." She said.
"Who's Firefly?" I asked.
"Vidal." Remi said with a chuckle, wincing a little when he laughed.
"Oh wow. Firefly is a good nickname." I chuckled.
"I wanted to call him peach, but he didn't want peach, he liked Firefly better." She said.
"You're good at nicknames." I laughed.
"I am... and aren't you that teacher?" She asked me.
"I'm a teacher, how did you know?" I asked her.
"I'm in Miss Hanson's class, and it's not fair because everyone wants to be in your class!" Nora said, scrunching her face up angrily and crossing her arms.
"Aw... you wanna get changed into my class? Your Daddy and I can make that happen, if you want." I chuckled.
"But what about my friend?" She asked me.
"You have a friend in Miss Hanson's class?" I asked her.
"Yeah, I don't wanna leave her." Nora told me.
"Then why don't you just stay there, and sometimes you can come visit me at lunch and stuff?" I asked her.
"Can I?!" She asked.
"Yup. Of course." I said to her.
"Cool! I want blueberries like your class." She told me.
"I'll save you some every day." I said to her.
"Thank you!" She giggled.
"So, why don't we go sneak about and find ourselves some breakfast?" I asked her.
"Gabe is nice, baby, go ahead." He told her.
I put out my hand and Nora took it.
"So, Nora, what's your favourite colour?" I asked her as we walked out of the room.
"It's green right now. It was red yesterday." She told me.
"Oh, I see. Does it change a lot?" I asked her.
"Of course." She nodded.
I lead her down to the cafeteria in the hospital and I was going to buy her some food, but then Rico found me and gave me some food. Apparently, Hazel made sure he brought me some food on his way.
So, Nora and I sat down and we ate our breakfast together. Ava eventually found us and joined us and when we were done eating, we all went back to Remi's room and found a Korean woman cuddled up to him. She seemed like she'd had a very rough time and Remi was trying to comfort her.
"Hey, is this Juliet?" I asked.
"It is." Remi smiled.
"Hey." She said, turning red and standing up to greet Ava and I as Nora climbed the bed to sit in Romeo's lap.
"Hi. I'm Gabriel." I smiled.
"Remi's uncle... right?" She asked me.
"Yeah." I nodded. "It's nice to meet you."
Ava introduced herself and then we all sat down for about an hour and talked.
Remi was discharged and Ric came and drove him home. Ava and I went to her apartment and we got some sleep and ate more food. That's when Ava's search for a new place started. She started showing me apartments and little flats, but I felt like if we were doing this together, we might as well just buy ourselves a house to live in. It didn't have to be big, something small and cozy and close to the family mansion would be perfect.
