Paxton growled lowly. 

"Why, hello dear cousin." The man said smiling. "Where are my manners? The name is Edmund Carmichael." He said to me taking my hand and planting a kiss on the back of it. 

Paxton grabbed me and put me behind him. "Why are you here?!"

"Well, news has gone around that you found your mate. I just had to come see the poor girl and wish her luck." He said smirking. 

"Well now you have met her. Now leave." Paxton said aggressively. I put a hand on his shoulder and he whipped around picking me up and ran back to the house. 

Once we were there he went to the office and sat me on his lap. 

"Paxton? What's up with you and your cousin, Edmund?"

Paxton took a deep breath. "That man has no relation to me. He is dead to me and not the cousin he should be." 

"What happened?"

"When we were in high school, I had a friend whose name was Crystal. She ended up being Edmund's mate. She was so happy and ecstatic. The only problem was that she was an omega and to him unsuitable to be his mate. He rejected her and she went into depression. She tried to talk to him about it and he told her she was worthless. I had never seen her more sad and depressed about anything. A week later, she shot herself with a silver bullet and killed herself."

I gasped and felt tears running down my cheeks. 

"Bastard didn't even go to the funeral. After high school, he had three marriages and is on his fourth now. I blame him for everything that happened to poor sweet Crystal. After the day of her suicide I promised myself that I would love and cherish my mate."

He said looking into my eyes. He reached up and brushed the tears away from face. I leaned up and kissed him. 

"I love you so much, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that and poor Crystal." 

He growled lowly. "Don't dare apologize. It's that bastards fault my dear friend is dead. He doesn't even feel remorse. He even went a witch before she died to have the bond broken." 

"That's awful!"I said.

"Ah, bringing up sore subjects are we?" We turned and saw him standing in the doorway. 

I stood up with Paxton. "I thought I told you to leave!" He snapped at Edmund. 

"Well I thought you would like to know the threat against your mate's life but ok." He stated and started to leave when Paxton stopped him. 

"What are you talking about?!" 

"Hmm, I don't like your tone-" In a flash, Paxton had him up against the wall by his throat. 

"I swear to the moon goddess above, Edmund, if you don't tell me right this minute I will have you hung in the town square by silver rope!" 

"Ok, ok!" Edmund choked out. He pulled out a note and handed it over to Paxton. Paxton let him go and strode over to me. 

"Colton!" 

"Yup." He said popping out at the doorway. 

"Get him out of here!"

"Okie dokie. Let's go dickhead." Colton dragged Edmund out of the office and shut the door. 

I turned and saw Paxton's eyes turning black and I could feel the anger and frustration dripping off of him. I flinched when he slammed the paper onto the desk. 

"Fucking Bastard!"

I went over and rubbed my hands over his shoulder and kissing his neck. "Paxton, you need to calm dow. Now, what is this threat he mentioned?" I asked. 

Paxton looked over hi shoulder at me and turned his body and held me by my waist. "Precious, you don't need to worry about it. I will protect you with my life." 

"Paxton, I am future Luna. I need to know." He sighed and picked up the letter and handed it over to me. 

Dearest Alpha, 

I know you have my beautiful mate Coralina with you. I have my people surrounding your pack watching your every move. I will give you three days to hand her over to me. Your cousin Edmund has been paid off to deal with the transaction. In return I will not kill you and your entire pack. However, if you do not hand her over, I will come in with the entire Stone Rouge pack to destroy you and your pack. Maybe I could even get rid of the hideous mark you left on her neck. I will make you watch me make her mine and give her pups. Then I will kill you and every single pathetic member of your trashy little pack! I hope you make the reasonable choice and hand her over.

I gasped and dropped the letter. Tears sprung up in my eyes. "No, no no no!" Paxton held me tightly and hugged me as I cried into his shoulder. 

"Don't worry my love, I will never let him take you away from me." He said. 

"But, you have to protect the pack." I protested. 

He smiled. "Look at you being all Luna. Don't worry my dear. If he thinks he can threaten me without retaliation, he has another thing coming. While you were reading the note, I mind linked Colton to chain up Edmund and send an urgency note to Clarence. By morning, the entire werewolf kingdom will be hunting down Kendrick and his pack of mutts." 

I was surprised about how calm he was being but I could still feel his inner turmoil. Male wolves are extremely protective, let alone Alphas. 

I continued to cry into his shoulder and he picked me up and ran up to the bath tub. I was confused at first what he was doing, then he filled the tub with water and poured some bubbles into it and they foamed up. 

He came over and stripped off my clothes and then his. He once again picked me up and got in holding me to his chest. I calmed down and leaned my head against his shoulder as he rubbed my skin with the bubbles that formed around us. 

He kissed my temple and whispered into my ear. "You'r mine, and I protect what's mine." I moaned as he licked and kissed my mark. 

I moaned and turned my body and kissed him back. He gripped my waist and turned me completely so that I was straddling him. I kissed down his chest. 

"Mo ghaol-" 

Suddenly there was loud banging on the door. "Dammit! WHAT IS IT!"

"Alpha! There has been a death. You really need to see this." A scared voice said. 

Paxton and I's wolves went on alert going into alpha and Luna mode. We got out of the tub and dressed quickly. 

As we were walking out of the house, I saw frightened children getting hugged by their mother. One little boy was looking extremely scared. I went over to him. 

"It's ok. Alpha Paxton and I are going to protect you." I said. 

He nodded and hugged me. 

"Thomas! Come here!" I looked up to see a girl around my age wearing barely enough clothing. Her face caked in makeup. 

"S-sorry s-s-sissy. I'm scared!" 

"Stop being such a fucking baby." I was surprised at the way she spoke to him. I held him closer to me. 

"Excuse me but please watch your language around pups." I said gruffly to the girl. 

"Who the hell are you!?" 

"She's your Luna. And I agree with her Sandy, you need to be more respectful." I turned to see Colton standing beside me. 

"That mutt is the Luna? That's a joke right?" She did this hyena laugh. 

We heard a growl and turned to see Paxton marching over to us. "Sandy! Never disrespect the Luna! EVER! Guards put her under house arrest until I can deal with her!" 

A couple of guards escorted her away and another elderly woman came and took care of Thomas. Paxton grabbed my hand and led me to the scene. 

I gasped and turned into Paxton burying my face in his chest when I saw the body. It was a young girl who looked like me in some ways. By her smell, she was a witch and she had bruising all over her body. 

She had a bloody slit across her throat and her cold, dead eyes looked upwards. Colton shuddered and ran his hand over her eyes to close them. 

"Pack doctor, get the body in the morgue! Colton search the area! I want this to be figured out by tomorrow." Paxton said with his voice dripping with authority. 

"Alpha! Edmund has escaped!" A guard screamed running over to us. 

Paxton growled. "Every man not working on this murder goes on the search for Edmund! Leave no stone unturned." 

I could tell how stressed he was with everything happening like this. I grabbed his hand squeezing it. He looked down at me and smiled as he leaned down and planted a kiss on my lips. 

"I love you so much." He said. "Nothing will hurt you. I swear to you that." 

I smiled and rested my head on his chest as they took the body away and began investigating area around the scene and the actual scene itself.
