《Plutonian》Chapter 29

My feet are heavy and my shoes feel like they have been filled with stones as I walk through Lucian's extravagant foyer. Today it is filled with people cleaning all the various statues and decorations that adorn this large profligate space that seems so unnecessary to me.

It may be too early to tell but since I've been here I've never seen anyone visit nor has Lucian entertained anyone in his excessively large manor. He has always been busy working, in fact I have never even seen him lounging here himself.

I notice that most of the people wiping and dusting off surfaces are humans monitored by Plutonians. I don't miss the small snap guns attached to their waste bands and it makes me walk even faster. A young girl who looks to be around eleven years old looks at me in surprise as I walk past her and the small trinket she has been wiping slips through her hand and shatters on the cold marble floor.

"You idiot. Do you know how much that costs!" Her supervisor reaches us and he takes out the snap gun from his side. He grabs her hand and presses the tip of the snap gun to her forearm and the smell of burning flesh permeates through the air immediately.

I feel my lunch inch its way up my throat and although I am equally as frightened of this Plutonian a small shriek escapes my mouth and I grab his hand without thinking.

He immediately releases the girl and shakes his hand out of mine. He rubs his skin and glares at me like he had just been touched by poison.

"It's not her fault. I distracted her," I say in shaky voice. Blood thumps in my ears as we both look at each other in shock. I can't believe that I am talking back to a Plutonian and apparently neither can he.

"You may be a fighter and Master Lucian's mistress but you are still a human. You should know your place and never interfere with a our affairs," He is seething now as he walks up to me. He looks down at me condescendingly but I don't cower like I expect myself to.

Instead I bend down and gather the broken pieces in my hands.

"Why you little--," The Plutonian grabs my arm and yanks me up to face him. He raises his hand in the air looking like he is going to hit me but then he pauses in mid air. Around us the room is so silent, the only sound I hear is the whimpering of the small girl who has just been punished. Everyone is staring at us and I brace myself for the searing pain of his fist connecting with my face but it never happens.

Instead he releases me looking unsure of himself and I gather the last few pieces in my hands.

"There it's settled," I shrug at him and walk away from the hall, my entire body shaking as I feel his eyes burn two holes into my back.

"The committee will hear about this!" He shouts after me angrily but I carry on walking as if I never heard him.

My skin burns as I walk into Lucian's bedroom expecting to see him there.

There is so much I want to say to him. I need him to train me to defeat Leslie. I don't care if I have to watch all of his video's to be prepared. Right now my blood is boiling with rage. It doesn't matter what I do or who I have to defeat.

The end result should be that I join the army and leave this God forsaken place so that I can inform the people on Earth what has been happening under their noses for years. That their children are being stolen from their families and made to work as slaves.

I have to take in a huge breath to calm myself. The Plutonian supervisor burnt that little girls skin for breaking a small useless trinket that Lucian probably doesn't even remember having. The whole thing made me so mad all I could see was red.

"Lucian?" I call out to him as I walk around the room. It is as eerily silent as it was this morning.

The door opens and our usual male attendant walks in.

"Mistress Aria, Master Lucian has left a message for you," He says.

"Where is he? Is he alright?" I ask worriedly.

"He's at work. He won't be back till tomorrow," He says and I frown in confusion.

"That's weird. Has he gone on an expedition?"

"I'm sorry Miss Aria but I don't know much either. All I know is that a few changes are about to be made and everyone is busy making accommodations to prepare for it," The attendant shrugs his shoulders looking as curious as I am.

I sit down on the floor looking no where in particular.

"Why do I feel so worried?" I ask rhetorically, not expecting an answer.

"There's nothing to be worried about, Miss. Master Lucian has instructed me to show you your training videos for this evening. He walks up to the table and attaches a device to his fingertip. I quickly get up and stand next to him watching as his finger glides across the table just like Lucian did.

He finds a spot in the center and moves one finger breath below before inserting his finger into the camouflaged sensor. The screen immediately comes to life and then he opens up various folders sifting through them with the familiarity of someone who has done this many times before. I study his movements diligently, seeing how his finger moves to open, minimize and close those virtual folders.

He opens up a few videos of Leslie's fights and lets me watch them.

"Master told me this is your next opponent," He says. "He's instructed me to play all his videos and practice with you. I will be your opponent today."

"Umm, okay," I say as I look at Leslie's fiery red hair bounce across the screen as he fights. I desperately want to beat him.

We practice with each other until we both are tired and my legs feel wobbly. Leslie moves really quickly but I feel this attendant -whom I now know as Cyscus- moves even faster. By the time we finish a few video's I feel extremely worn out.

"I'll go get you some refreshments," He smiles at me and rushes out of the room.

When he leaves I immediately look up at the bright screen that faces me. It looks too inviting, I cannot resist walking up to it. I gulp loudly when I see the attendant has left his finger pad on the table, the one he used to search through the files.

I touch the screen lightly but my bare finger goes through the colorful image like it is made of thin air. Of course it is programmed specifically for Lucian's touch. Why am I not surprised?

I put on the finger pad and this time I am able to move the files around. Feeling extremely apprehensive I look around me and then at the closed door.

Without wasting another second I minimize this folder and look through the other folder names. There are so many folders I don't know where to begin but then my eyes catch the words Project Earth and I freeze.

I tap on it and numerous sub folders appear. I quickly click on the first sub folder that is titled P.Moon and numerous monitors spring to life. Seeing them makes me stifle a gasp as I realize I am looking at people on Earth walking along streets, talking in offices and others on fields or stadiums. All these images hit me like a knife in the chest and suddenly the memories become clearer.

I remember the football stadium my father would bring us to during football season. I remember the fields where my brother used to play baseball. I remember the busy streets of the city we used to visit on the weekends.

My eyes grow watery and I take a step back. They have been watching us this whole time and they still are. I hear the sound of a tray hitting the door slightly and the door knob turning and I quickly exit these folders and open up the video of Leslie.

As Cyscus walks in I turn around to face him keeping my hands behind my back and then I quickly slip the finger pad off. It lands on the table with a soft thud and I pray that he didn't hear anything. I quickly wipe my eyes and force a smile as he approaches me.

"I've brought some herbal concoctions from Cixin. They're really good to build strength and stamina," Cyscus places them on the table.

He stares at the finger pad and a flash of panic crosses his face when he looks up at me but I pretend like I don't know anything and sit down to take a sip. He relaxes when he looks at the screen and then he shuts down everything before walking away.

"I'll be going now to prepare your dinner. Is there anything else you need?" He asks me.

"Do you want some?" I ask him and he immediately refutes.

"I'm fine. I'll head out now Mistress Aria," He says.

"Wait! I wanted to ask you if I am allowed to leave the quarters by myself. I have a party to go to tonight," I ask him quietly and he looks at me in surprise.

"I will ask Master Lucian. Do you need Phillius to take you?"

"No, please no. I'll ask Cassandra and we will arrange something," I reply quickly. The last thing I need is to show up to Humanoid in a glider that carries the Trinity symbol.

"Okay, give me a few minutes," Cyscus says and he rushes out of the room only to return after a few minutes with the good news that I can go.

I make arrangements with Cassandra who is as excited about this as I expected her to be and we meet outside her Master's place around nine thirty. I noticed his house also screams extravagance but it is no where near as big as Lucian's compound.

"I can't believe you only gave me an hour to get ready," She complains and I laugh as we get into one of her commanders gliders. The chauffeur takes us into the city and I look out at the bright lights that surround us which automatically reminds me of Lucian.

"You look fine," I say even though it is an understatement because she looks beautiful in her neon pink dress. Her pale cheeks are lightly coated with pink blush and her glossy red hair hangs loosely around her shoulders and down her back.

"You could have done better," She chides me and I throw a pillow at her as she laughs. "I'm serious. It's a party and it looks like you're going for a training session."

I look down at my black pants and my blue shirt that has reinforced padding around my chest. Why did I dress like this?

I sigh as I look out of the window and then at Cassandra. If only she knew what was on my mind.

I couldn't stop thinking about Project Earth and how tightly the humans there were being monitored. What was the need for that? And why has Lucian been missing since yesterday? What are the changes that are being made?

Dread fills my veins like lead making me sink further into the pillows behind me as a thought worse than any other crosses my mind. After what I have seen it becomes clear than even if I do escape and reach Earth, there is no doubt the Plutonians would be able to find me in an instant.

Ughh its a pretty depressing end but they're heading to a party so things are bound to pick up right? Hope you enjoyed the double update :) :)
