《Hot Chocolate》chapter fourty-eight, oh-okay.

"Cami? Pst! Wake up!"

"What?" I rolled over, falling off the couch. "Ugh. What time is it?"

"Time for you to get ready for school. Jeez girl, I thought you 'weren't that bothered t-b-h'?"

I opened my eyes, readjusting to the brightness of the room to see Zoe stood before me with her arms crossed. "The full tub?"

"Sorry." I yawned. "I need a shower..."

I practically crawled upstairs and into the bathroom. I felt a bit better as the warm water hit my skin, but I still ached.

This is what you wanted Camila. You wanted to be his friend. You did this to yourself.

I am so fucking dumb.

The bags under my eyes are darker than they've ever been, but I disguised my zombie-look by blow drying my hair and putting on some mascara.

I rushed out the door, still zipping up my gym bag as I headed over to Theo's. Put on a smile. You're okay. You just didn't sleep well, that's why you look like crap.

"Hey- you okay?"

"Yeah, just missed my alarm." I laughed almost too falsely as I sat in his passenger seat.

"That's not like you."

"I know, right? Just didn't sleep great."

"You need a lift home today?"

"Aren't you going to your mom's?"

"I can drop you home before if you want?"

"No, don't worry about it, Zoe should be home."

"Oh, okay."

God I'm sick of the 'oh okay's'.

At least one of us was happy today. Theo's aura was glowing, his sunglasses rested on his nose, even though it wasn't even that sunny. His thumbs drummed the steering wheel, his head bobbed to the 5 seconds of summer song that played on the radio.

I'm so glad I texted Rebecca.

We pulled up at school, parking in his usual spot before going inside. We headed to the social area, sitting down next to Katie, Matt and Joey who were having a deep and private looking conversation.

"Everything okay?" I asked Katie, who was rolling her eyes and had her arms crossed.

"Yeah, they're just being... misogynistic."

"What's new?"

The only good thing that's come out of the Theo and I situation is that he isn't going to be picking on Matt anymore. Maybe they can go back to being friends, now that they don't have to fight over me.

First class was biology, which I thankfully sit beside Lucy for. Matthew and Theodore sit beside each other, but I don't think they spoke once. I guess it's better than arguing.

I almost fell asleep as we learnt about cells, and I know my future self is going to be pissed at how messy my notes are.

Second class was with Matt. I kept my head down and acted like I cared about what we were learning. "Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah, just tired. You?"

"I'm okay."

I scribbled down a few words, reading a page in my textbook to check I spelt them right.

"What are you doing after school?"

"Um... just volleyball."

"After that?"

"Probably just homework."

"Wanna do homework together? We could get coffee again?"

Is he still trying? Or has he accepted friends?

I considered his offer. Theo is going to his Mom's, Zoe's at work....

"Sure."

Third class was Calculus. Theo and Katie were already waiting for us as we entered, muttering and giggling. Is he going to get back with her now that I'm only a friend?

"Hey."

"Hey." He leant over to me, lowering his voice, "why didn't you tell me?"

"You're going to have to be more specific..."

"About rejecting Matt yesterday..?"

"Oh, yeah. Well that's all it was, I just told him I'd rather be friends."

"Good." He nodded, a slight smile on his face, "Katie said he was kinda upset about it."

"Shit. Well I'm hanging out with him after school so..."

"Oh, okay."

Again, really? Have you got nothing else to say?

"Yeah."

Is he actually upset? Why would he tell Katie? Should I mention it? Do I apologise or what?

Fourth class was hell. Matt had to shake my arm every few minutes to wake me up, which he found hilarious.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

"Just a migraine."

"You should go to the nurse."

"It's not that bad, really."

"Okay..." He didn't sound convinced.

I took a couple pills I had stashed in my locker for my headache at break, concerning Theo. "Is it- um, you know. Your time-"

I found it hilarious how hard he tried to say the word 'period' without saying 'period'.

"Nah." I smiled, finding it funny how embarrassed he was.

"Oh- sorry. I just thought, 'cause you're like..."

"Look dead?"

"Yeah."

"Nope, just tired, I'm good."

Fifth and sixth period flew by, maybe because I fell asleep, or maybe those were day dreams, I can't quiet tell.

I found myself looking across to Theo a lot, wishing he'd write me a dirty note telling me which underwear to wear tonight. But no. He didn't even spare me a glance.

The final bell interrupted one of my many dirty thoughts, and I gathered my stuff together before slumping down to the gym hall.

"Gather around girls!"

My tight ponytail kept my eyes open, but I couldn't hold back my occasional yawns.

"First game of the season is this Thursday."

"What?"

"That's too soon."

"Why didn't we get told!"

"We don't even have a captain yet."

The girls muttered and complained, but we're all shut up by coach's whistle.

"I've chosen this year's Captain."

That was enough to catch everyone's attention. "This year's captain is...."
