《Keeping Lennox》Chapter Twenty Six

The week following prom was spring break. Cassie and I decided we were staying home with Lennox.

I received a phone call from Mrs. Pat. She wanted to spend time with Lennox. I remembered she had only seen her once since the court date, so I agreed.

Cassie and I dropped Lennox of on Monday evening and went out to back to my house. It was nice to be with her without any friends or interruptions.

The next evening, we went out to dinner. I was holding her hand and staring into her eyes.

My phone vibrated. So much for us having no interruptions this week. It was Mrs. Pat. I answered immediately.

She was frantic on the other end. "Wade. It's Lennox. I stepped out for just a minute. I came back and she was gone. I thought we were alone, but I guess we weren't."

I dropped the phone. Cassie jumped, "Wade, what is it?"

"Lennox is gone. Someone took her." I said. I grabbed her hand and left a tip on the table. We paid for our dinner and left.

My baby. My precious baby. I can't lose her. Not now.

Tori's POV

I did the right thing by giving her away. I know I did, but my dad didn't agree. He wanted to see his granddaughter, and I didn't blame him.

I heard from a friend that Lennox was with my mom for the week. She wanted to give Wade and Cassie a break.

Perfect. Makes it easier for me to get to her. I told my dad that I needed money for a ticket to Amarillo. He knew what I was doing, so he gave it to me. I told him to stay and wait. Before long, I would have Lennox here. For a few days. Then I would send her back.

My plane landed in Amarillo. I caught a cab and told him the way to go.

Mom wasn't home. Good. I fumbled for my house key. She didn't change the locks. I walked in and went to hide out in Lennox's room. I phoned a friend and told her to be ready. She was driving me and Lennox back to the airport.

I heard mom come in, so I ducked in the closet.

She came in the room and laid my sleeping daughter in the crib. Just perfect. She walked out, and I heard the back door close. I heard a small knock on my window. The coast was clear. I grabbed Lennox and the small bag that I packed.

I went outside to meet my best friend, Allie. I knew she was always on my side. Even if her boyfriend was Cassie's twin brother.
