《Keeping Lennox》Chapter Twenty Three

Prom night was mine and Cassie's first actual date. We had dinner a couple times at my place, but tonight we actually left the house.

I still couldn't get over the fact how beautiful she was. Purple was her color. It looked amazing on her.

All six of us went to a fancy restaurant before prom. We let the girls decide, and all we got was, "I don't care."

Why do girls always do that? Finally, Cassie spoke up and named off a restaurant. We ended up sitting a round booth in the corner, so we could sit by our dates. Cassie and I were in the middle.

Dinner was served, and we finished eating. We left a good tip because our server was amazing.

We got back into the limo and headed towards the community center.

It looked beautiful on the outside. When we got in, we were greeted and led toward the photo booth. Might as well get it over with.

Each couple got a couple of shots together. The girls got together. Then, the guys got together. Lastly, we did a group photo. We paid for our packages and went out to the dance floor.

I'm not much of a dancer, but Cassie is. I would do anything for her. She held me close and I whispered, "I may step on your toes. You know this isn't my style."

She just giggled, "I know. I have known you for years. We don't have to be out here you know."

I shrugged, "doesn't bother me. I just want to be holding you."

She smiled up at me. She laid her head on my chest. Man, this night was going to be perfect.

....................

We stayed that way, swaying back and forth, for quite a while.

Our prom coordinator, Mrs. Adams walked up to the stage. It was time to announce prom king and queen. Cassie and I were both nominees for that.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," Mrs. Adams began. "We would now like to recognize our prom court. When I call your name please come forward."

She pulled out a list and began, "for prom queen: Haley Evans, Cassie Chandler, and Mackenzie Bryan."

The girls walked up to the stage and lined up. "Now, for prom king: Blake Michaels, Jacob Edwards, and Wade Bentley."

We went up the stage and stood opposite the girls.

"Now," Mrs. Adams began, "the moment we have all been waiting for. The 2011 prom king and queen are," she pulled out the envelope, "Wade Bentley and Cassie Chandler."

What? We got prom king and queen? We stepped forward and received our crowns.

"Cassie," Mrs. Adams said, "you may now choose your dance partner."

Cassie looked to me and smiled and grabbed my hand. I was beyond ecstatic.
