《Lost Without You (A werewolf romance)》31. The fair

Amelia Lovecraft

Our former Alpha Elijah and Luna Catherine had organized a fair on the training grounds that could easily fit in thousands of people. Today was the day of the fair and I promised to go with Amaya, Lily and Tania. Since their mates were on duty. Well, so was mine. I scoffed at my ridiculous thoughts.

The girls had planned to wear casual dresses, so I settled for a spaghetti strap dress, pairing it with a cardigan and some comfy sneakers. Leaving my hair in it's natural raven waves.

HONK!

A loud horn was heard and I assumed it was Lily since she promised to drive us all there.

"Bye mama!" I waved to mum before walking out.

"Hey Loons!" Amaya grinned at me from the back seat while Lily and Tania sat in the front.

"Huh?" I asked, opening the door and sitting beside her.

She grabbed me for a quick hug, Lily and Tania looked at me with mischievous grins.

"What is wrong with you girls?" I raised my eyebrows at them.

"Don't you like the new name?" Tania giggled.

"Loons? Are you calling me stupid?" I inquired.

Amaya let out a boisterous laugh. "Of course not! It's gonna be so weird calling you Luna so, we had to come up with a short, cute, pet name you know."

"Oh god no! Amaya..." I laid my head on the headrest. Shaking my head side to side as the three couldn't stop snickering at me.

"Just leave her alone, let the poor girl have some fun today." Lily winked my way through the rear view mirror.

The ride went on with girls making fun of me and myself trying to poke them back. I was glad they knew going too much in detail with the matter would spoil my mood so they kept it light. It felt nice to finally loosen up with some friends after days of hectic work and Alpha drama.

Arriving at the fair took my breath away, the last time I had been to a fair was with Selena. The set up at the training grounds looked grand and well prepared for the people to have absolute fun. It's was already packed with excited and happy pack members and few wolves from other packs.

"Ice cream!" Lily squealed, pulling us to the ice cream stall. As we stood in line, the people glanced back at us, before moving out of way so that we could order right away.

"The perks of being a Luna?" Amaya whispered in my ears. It felt extremely awkward. Giving everyone a small smile, I stood there feeling uncomfortable. As soon as Lily received the ice creams, we left with me mumbling 'thank you' to all who gave us way.

"Mia, relax." Tania held my hand.

"It's a little awkward." I said, pulling my sun glasses and putting them on. There were a lot of curious stares. This was going to be something to get used to or hopefully they get over the fact that I am their Alpha's unwanted mate.

"He said he wants you Mia!" Heera corrected.

I felt weak at my knees at the thought of him saying he would wait for me.

"Wait! Are you warming up to him after the apology?"

"Grrr nope!" She blocked me out.

"Ty's here!" Tania squeaked sniffing up the air. "I'll see you'll later..." she hugged the three of us before running away, in search of her mate.

From afar the scent of pine and mint swiftly made its way to my nose. If Tyler was here, there was a high chance that Lincoln would show up too.

Amaya was quick to spot a shady bench underneath a tree, where we threw sat savouring our ice creams. Scooping up the rich chocolate-y goodness, a moan left my lips at the taste of the ice cream. It was just so heavenly.

"Shhh.. Calm down tiger..." Amaya spoke masking her laugh, where as Lily's jaw dropped. "Are you teasing him?" She asked incredulously.

"What? Who?"

"Your mate is on your right you dumbass." Amaya whispered ever so quietly.

"He would've heard that moan from a mile even. You know them Alpha ears." Lily laughed tapping on her ear.

Thank goddess for the glasses I was wearing, without turning my head I looked to my right to see Lincoln a few stalls away from me. I was too carried away devouring my dessert to sense my mate's presence so close up. He was looking my way as a guard was explaining something to him. He wore a white casual linen shirt with jeans and brown shoes. I couldn't tell where he was exactly looking because of the sun glasses he wore. Oh my, did he look hot! A few buttons off, made his hard chest visible. His sculpted jaw line so defined as he looked back at the guard to say something.

"Mia!" An excited voice called out.

"Mathew!" I greeted a little boy as he came up to me. Mathew was one of my frequent patients. Excusing myself from Amaya and Lily, I stood up to greet my little friend.

"I'm glad you're here." He pulled my hand. "Come on, let me take you to my friends."

"Ah okay?" Before I could even contemplate his words. I was dragged away towards a bunch of kids. A few familiar faces.

They surrounded an apple tree. Some climbing on the branches, while the girls picked the fruits they could reach. The pups seemed to have their own kind of fun at the fair.

"Watch me Mia!" Mathew yelled before climbing up the tree and hanging on the branch like a monkey. I chuckled at his behaviour.

There stood a little girl pouting up at the tree.

"What's wrong?" I bent down to her level.

"Faraway." She pointed at the bunch of apples, that was a bit above my height.

"Okay let me try..." I took my glasses off, handing it to the girl. I stood on my tip toes and sadly still couldn't reach up to the apples.

One last try wouldn't hurt for those pink pouty lips. I stretched my arm up high and jumped, only for my middle fingers to slightly brush on one apple. There was no way I could reach for it.

I huffed, placing my hands on my hips, "what do we do now huh?" I panted. Her doe eyes looked very disappointed. There was no way I could cheer her up so, I picked her and placed on my hip. The both of us gazing at those unreachable bunch of apples. Suddenly the thick branch that held the apples was bent down to our level. Mathew and all the other kids from around the tree backed away looking at us with surprise. Lincoln held down the branch like it was nothing. He was right behind me. His biceps being very prominent, maybe only for my eyes.

I urged the little girl to pick the apples, to which she happily obliged. She giggled as she pulled three big apples that fit into her tiny arms. After placing her down, she hopped in excitement. "Thank you Alpha." She said and did the cutest bow making Lincoln and I laugh. Her cheeks turned pink in an instant as she ran to her mother who stood near one of the benches. Lincoln picked the remaining fruits from the tree, gently throwing them to the kids who stood there gaping at their Alpha. The pups were all smiles as they caught the apples.

He was so close to me I felt his chest brushing against the back of my shoulder. The warmth radiating from his body somehow gave me comfort. This time it didn't feel strange, I felt my body relax near him. Perhaps stay here a little longer.

"Stay away from the borders." His chest trembled as he spoke to the boys, who chorused 'yes Alpha', before running away from us.

I turned around slowly to head back to Lily and Amaya. Lincoln, who stood there nearby had his tilted assessing my face. His greyish green eyes bore into mine with his eyebrows narrowed. This staring contest could go on for hours. I cleared my throat as I looked around and yet he hadn't stopped looking at me.

"Alpha Lincoln... Amelia." A cheerful voice called out. I had to turn to meet the person.

"Kayden?" I asked.

"Foster." Lincoln replied coldly.

Kayden walked towards us, with a very delightful smile acknowledging our presence.

"Nice to see you out here Linc- Alpha." He smirked. "Not your usual kind of scene I suppose."

"Whatever happens inside my territory is my kind of scene Foster." He sounded like his grumpy old self again. Kayden chuckled nodding his head in understanding.

"Mia, I'm glad I'm seeing you sooner than I thought." He broke his gaze from Lincoln and looked at me. "I was thinking of making another visit to the hospital."

"You've met him before?" Lincoln asked.

"Umm, yeah he had come by the hospital to make some donations... is that right?" I questioned Kayden.

"Donations for the pack hospital?" Lincoln scoffed. "It's all taken care of Foster."

"Oh I'm well aware Alpha, I just thought that, you know..." Kayden tried to reason out.

"That you could donate a few organs?" Lincoln bit out. I looked at him sternly for being so rude to Kayden.

"Not for now of course." Kayden laughed nervously. "I wanted to help the kids, so I was hoping the money goes to them and their needs." My heart swelled at his words. He wanted to help the pups in the hospital. "I met up with Alex, and he helped me with it." He explained further.

"That's amazing!" I smiled.

"Mia how about I take you on the Ferris wheel? The view is pretty great up there." Kayden held his hand out. I hesitated to take it at first, somehow feeling extremely comfortable and warm around my mate.

"Mate?" Heera's ears sprung up.

What the hell was I even thinking? Probably my mind gets clouded being around him. No way! I took Kayden's hand the next second.

"Sounds great." I nodded.

"Let's go." He bowed in Lincoln's direction.

"Good bye Alpha." I bowed before walking away.
