《The Alpha's Warrior》Chapter Thirty Four

I'm convinced my heart stops right then and there.

My ears begin ringing- they're hot, like all the blood in my body has rushed to my head. The scene before me unfolds in slow motion. Sage rips into Killian's chest with his claws and pushes him to the ground. Killian cries out in Pain as his eyes roll back into his head.

I can't tell if I even scream or cry out.

I don't even realize I'm running towards him until I'm standing over his unconscious form. Sage growls at me in warning from a few feet away.

I raise my eyes to meet his, a dangerous snarl dancing on my lips. He's a sick fuck that deserves to die. He deserves worse than death, honestly, but he needs to pay for all the innocent lives he's taken with his own.

I'm going to make it happen, and I'm going to make sure it fucking hurts.

I lunge at him, but his remaining men are on me instantly. I thrash against them wildly as Sage stalks towards me until our faces are inches apart. Even in his wolf form I can tell he's grinning menacingly.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see one of Killian's paws twitch almost imperceptibly. I quickly look back to Sage so as not to draw any extra attention to him and pray to whatever god that may be listening that no one else just witnessed the same thing I just did.

Sage gets impossibly closer. He nuzzles his nose against my neck and inhales deeply.

I'm disgusted.

I want to vomit, but I don't pull back. I don't move a muscle. He's right where I want him, even if he is being a fucking creep. He bares his teeth against my throat, placing a slight pressure at the juncture there.

The asshole is taunting me. Too bad his love for theatrics is usually his downfall.

As he tilts his head slightly to the side to place more pressure, I see my opening and brace myself for attack. I can snap his neck instantly and take out the other three men before they even know what hit them.

Before I can take my chance, a beautiful dark brown wolf barrels into his side. I'm confused- I don't recognize the wolf but he seems to be on my side. I can't hesitate for even a second, so I start swinging at anyone within reach of my paws.

I take out the remaining three Warriors with relative ease and circle the two warring wolves, trying to get in on the action. The brown wolf looks up at me and shakes his head slightly.

I recognize his eyes instantly- I'm stunned.

Lucas said his wolf hasn't come out since his mate died. Why did he decide to come out now? Regardless, I'm grateful for the distraction. I use the time to go check on Killian.

His eyes are closed, but he's breathing. It's shallow and erratic, but it's still there. A small sob bubbles out of my throat. Relief spreads through me just knowing that he's alive. He's even starting to heal already, faster now that I'm touching him.

I press my paw into his wound to try and slow the bleeding. Within minutes, his eyes are fluttering up at me.

Rey?

He looks around, disoriented and confused. He tries to sit up, but I push him back down gently.

Hey

I smile down at him through unshed tears.

His head snaps up to the sound of Lucas and Sage fighting. Sage looks worn out, his moves getting clumsy and uncoordinated.

I have to help Lucas

I push the unruly curls off his forehead- it's a little sweaty, but I don't mind.

Lucas?

he scrunches his eyebrows at me.

It's a long story. Just stay here.

Just as I say that, I hear a yelp. I look over to see Lucas's head twisted at an unsightly angle with Sage's heart hanging out of his mouth.
