《Kings of Hawkings [bxb]》Chapter 24

They dropped off Travis and Jaiden and had them take care of anyone coming to the dorms. They checked in with their groups and made sure everyone was ready.
The streets were empty, but unlike most Hunt nights, a number of businesses had their lights on and signs that read "#SOS" or "Safe House".
Sam whistled. "Shit, things are really different tonight."
"I just can't believe I don't see a single cop car." Millan said looking around.
Jonas shrugged. "They're paid off. Cops, judges, politicians. A large portion of this town is in their pocket."
They reached the town square, which was a small but well lit park. They knew that it was going to be the location St. Vincent's would use for their Prey, but it was in the middle of town, and they had good proximity to most of the other Hawkings student locations. They watched their notifications and received confirmations that their school was leading others to safety. Several fights broke out, but Hawkings were accustomed to small brawls from time to time so they didn't have major injuries. A few already visited the gym to get fixed up. But the good news was St. Vincent's haven't secured their Prey yet. Hawkings were doing their job well and the Kings were laying on the tables and benches in the park.
Jonas took his normal spot and was laying down with head on Hugh's lap. Hugh was discreetly playing with a lock of hair from Jonas.
"Can I ask why you thought they stopped the Hunt?" He asked quietly. But the night was so silent that the other Kings heard the question.
"Don't you like me for mysterious side?" Jonas said with a weak smile that only Hugh saw.
Hugh saw the conflict on Jonas' face, debating whether or not to tell Hugh something about his past. Hugh had only received bits and pieces. His past was fragmented and tormented, and Jonas tried to keep it to himself.
Even though Jonas never brings it up, Hugh coaxed him out of plenty of nightmares to know that his past haunted him still. He had no idea the things he would mutter in his sleep, but he would always wake up with Hugh's soft and gentle voice. When tears would roll down his face, Hugh would gently wipe them off and whisper reassurances to him until his body calmed and the nightmare passed.
Hugh knew that his beautiful dark man was in shambles.
Jonas looked at Hugh and knew that he was not swayed by he weak attempt of avoiding the subject. Jonas lifted his and and brushed Hugh's cheek. "Are you sure you want to know?"
Hugh nuzzled his face in Jonas' hand. "Yes.
Jonas sighed and felt calm looking at the sincerity in Hugh's eyes. "What are you doing to me? I don't think I will ever be able to tell you no."

Hugh felt warmth when Jonas said this, with his hand on his cheek. There was affection in his words, like he would give everything to Hugh, and Hugh felt the same. He wanted to share everything with Jonas. There was something special about every interaction with him.
Hugh flicked his eyes up and saw the other Kings standing with their back facing them and staring at their phones. They were quiet because they were straining to hear the details, but still gave them some privacy.
Hugh clasped Jonas' hand that was on his cheek and ran his lips across his palm, landing a light kiss. "I want to know everything about you." He gave his hand another kiss.
Jonas closed his eyes and let out a deep hum of satisfaction feeling Hugh's lips on him. "That's cheating." Jonas said in a deep husky voice.
Hugh grinned and moved his kisses to Jonas' wrist. "I know."
Jonas was silent for a moment and took several deep breaths. "When I was in the hospital-"
Hugh stopped him with an angry look. "Nope. You're are not going to start there. Back it up."
Jonas cursed and gave Hugh a pleading look, not wanting to dive into it but he was not swayed. Hugh bent over and placed his lips on his forehead. "I said I wanted to know everything, and I mean it. I'm right here and I will stay here no matter what you tell me."
Jonas tilted his head and pulled Hugh's face towards him. His lips brushed across his and gently moved in a slow rhythm. Hugh quickly adapted and moved with him. Jonas finished it with a small peck and broke away with a satisfied sigh.
"Last year was not my year, as you can guess. Granted, if you put a classmate in the hospital, you naturally lose your Elite status. I was deemed toxic and feral, which was a perfect setup for St. Vincent's challenges; The Wolf Challenge. Basically, try to piss off the Wolf and live. It started with little pranks and petty shit. I didn't let it get to me and normally respond with my fists, which warded them off for a little. But it was a temporary fix and the pranks quickly escalated, becoming dangerous. A shove down the stairwell, razors in my backpack, locking me in the chemistry lab after mixing bleach and ammonia in an open container... I had to actually break a window to get out of the room for that one. But they kept taking it up a notch."
Jonas lifted his shirt a little and rubbed a scar the ran from the bottom of his ribs to his hip. Hugh had noticed the scar before, but didn't know where it came from. Honestly, Jonas had plenty of scars and it was hard to determine if one came from a fight or not. But this was definitely one of his bigger and worse looking scars.

"Chuck always said to not fight angry, or you will end up hurt. That is especially true if you are fighting someone with a broken bottle. I dropped my guard and paid for it." Jonas said with a wry look on his face.
"It was bad enough you had to go to the hospital?"
"Well, I made it worse than what it was originally. After getting cut, I moved around a little too much."
Hugh chuckled, but there was sorrow behind his smile. "I'm not surprised. What was the price they paid?"
Jonas ran his hand through his hair and looked a little embarrassed. "It'll be easier if I showed you. You guys too." He called out to the other Kings. "You should know what you're getting yourselves into."
"With St. Vincent's?" Asked Sam.
Jonas shook his head. "With me."
He switched phones with Hugh so he can watch the #SOS locations while they watched the video. Hugh held the phone with one hand, and the other was still holding on to Jonas'.
*****
The video was obviously something previously set up. It began with Jonas walking into a class room, and all the chairs were pushed to the side. There were about ten kids standing around and laughing.
Jonas put down his backpack and shrugged off his jacket. "Let's get this shit done and over with."
A larger kid was chuckling and had a bottle in his hands. "Poor little wolf has lost his pack. It's about time the fucking Golden Boy is forced off his throne."
Jonas laughed coldly. "Do you really think being an Elite is everything in life? Fuck your games, Jay, and fuck your throne."
"Game? The Wolf Challenge is more than that. Its an extermination." The bigger kid, Jay, sneered.
Almost bored, Jonas answered, "Good thing I'm resilient"
"I'm surprised you are, considering who started the challenge. I mean, wasn't Lukas your best friend?"
Jonas visibly shook and his arms fell limply to his sides. "Lukas?"
His voice was broken as if the only support that kept him standing was ripped away. His best friend, someone he still relied on, was the source of his misery at school.
The kids surrounding him started laughing loudly and calling him names and homophobic slurs.
But the laughter died down when an eerie laugh joined them. Jonas was looking at the ceiling and laughing with wide smile. His eyes were crazed and completely lost all hope. He officially broke.
He lifted his hands and started to clap, mocking them with applause. "That was good, guys, real good. It only took half a year."
The one with the bottle, Jay, took a step back. "What do you mean? What took half a year?"
"To accept being the Wolf." Jonas snapped a hand up and clutched Jay by the throat and started punching him with his free hand over and over.
Jay flailed around and broke the bottle on a desk. He swiped it down, and a loud rip was heard. The room stilled and then the sound of drops hitting floor seemed to echo off the walls.
Jonas looked down and stepped away, his shirt already had a large red stain and it was growing.
Jonas laughed again and gripped the hand that had the bottle. He twisted Jay's hand with a loud pop and the bottle dropped. Jonas was still smiling at Jay. "You all took off the muzzle, now deal with the bite."
Jonas grabbed his head and dragged him to the window, pulled back and smashed his face in the glass. The window shattered and people started screaming. Jay collapsed heavily on the ground.
Jonas snatched the person closest to him and started hitting his face until he moved on to the next. He started to incorporated kicks when he was out of reach or if multiple people tried to attack him. Anyone could tell that he had professional training. People were falling like dominoes while Jonas kept moving.
The video quality was decent, and showed how pale Jonas was, which was a huge contrast to the bright red stain that was dripping from his wound. But he was still grinning and raised his bloodied hands to push his hair back. The blood helped his hair stay in place, but left traces behind on his forehead and temples, making him look villainous.
A couple of teachers rushed in, but Jonas grabbed a chair and threw it at them and they screamed and backed away. Jonas then picked another kid who was trying to crawl away and started to hit him.
"Spencer!" One of the teachers yelled.
Jonas dropped the kid and turned towards the teachers. He laughed darkly. "Call me by the name you chose for me. Call me fucking Wolf."
Security guards rushed in and tackled Jonas. He was able to push off a couple and land a couple of hits. But he was dazed for a moment when one hit him across the face with a baton. It was enough to be able to restrain him. The video picked up the sobbing and moans from the injured students, but in the foreground was the eerie laugh from Jonas.
"Isn't this what you wanted? Is the great St. Vincent's scared of the monster they created?"
Security guards had him restrained but took turns and started beating him. Jonas only laughed more every time a fist connected to his body. His laughs started to falter until he coughed a little. His head fell heavily to his chest, blood now dripping from his mouth and his body became limp.
The video turned black and stopped playing.
