《Kings of Hawkings [bxb]》Chapter 17

---Flashback---
The weekend before the first day of school during Jonas' Junior year, there was a huge house party. All the schools, except for Hawkings, was invited. Jonas being Elite, was naturally there but was agitated. He just had another incident with his father and was still shaking off his nerves from the basement.
He wanted to drink away his anxiety, but his eyes landed on a small redhead who was stumbling around too much to be considered drunk. She looked to be Eli's age, which made Jonas automatically become protective. He looked at the people surrounding her and a sickening feeling took over when he saw Michael and a group of guys eyeing her with disgusting grins.
He was about to approach the girl and help her home when Lukas pulled him back and started to talk about something meaningless. It took maybe a minute to shake him off, but it was a minute too long. Jonas panicked. The girl was gone and so was Michael and his group. Jonas rushed over the place he saw her last and asked several people if they saw them. A couple of people pointed upstairs and Jonas took off up the stairs.
The problem was that there were a lot of rooms in the house, so he had to burst through each room, scaring a number of couples. He finally found one door that was locked and heard crying from the other side. He kicked the door until the lock broke and saw Michael ripping off the clothes of the girl. She was crying and protesting with slurred words.
Jonas ran inside and threw Michael off of the girl and pummeled the others. He grabbed his hoodie and zipped it up around her and covered her body. She was trembling and crying, so Jonas wrapped his arms around her and quietly reassured her that she was ok.
But she was still slurring her words and her breathing started to become dangerously slow. Frightened by what they may have slipped her, he snuck her out the back of the house and raced to the hospital. The doctors confirmed that she was roofied and at a very high dosage. Him taking her to hospital so soon saved her life.
He stayed with her as they cleansed her system. When she came to, she freaked out, but he quickly calmed her down. She remember small portions of what happened, which unfortunately, included the assault. But luckily she also remember that someone helped her, Jonas.
In the beginning, the doctors suspected Jonas being the one that roofied her, but the girl set them straight when she started yelling at them and defending him. It was one of the few moments that she showed unbridled anger. But her emotions were in turmoil, and although she was angry at that moment, she quickly reverted back to fearful and broken.

Jonas stopped the assault from going all the way. However, any sort of sexual harassment can break a person and can create a trauma.
She didn't want to tell him or the doctors her name. Jonas never pushed her, and called her 'Princess' instead. He insisted that she called him Jo. At that time, only his brother called him Jo and he wanted to protect her like he wanted to protect his little brother.
When a male doctor came in, she started to panic again. Jonas quickly shielded her and kicked him out. He demanded that only female doctors can attend to her. He was intimidating enough that they complied.
He skipped school the next day and stayed by her side and carried on a number of conversations just to relax her. He would read novels out loud from his phone, or he would tell her a little about himself - his fights at the gym, stupid pranks he pulled, and how he teased his brother.
Her emotions fluctuated; laughing at one story, and then crying the next moment. When she saw any men passing by, she would flinch and cower. When she became conscious of her reactions, she broke down and a panic attack took over. Jonas was patient and talked her through it. When she criticized herself for being weak, he comforted her by bringing up his own fears of the dark. He even told her how he would get panic attacks if the night was too dark, making her visibly relax.
It took some time, but Jonas finally convinced the girl to call her family. She wanted to pretend nothing happened, but relented. He held her hand and encouraged her the entire time while on the phone. When she hung up Jonas wiped her tears and told her how brave she was. He stepped out in the hall and sat on one of the chairs with his hood up. He wanted to wait and make sure she was ok but still give her and her family space. She did mention how her brother hated anyone from St. Vincent's so he kept his distance and his head down to avoid a confrontation.
A boy around his age ran in frantically. Jonas only caught a glimpse of him with his dark blue hair. He heard the girl cry out 'brother' and his soft words were mumbled. He sighed and stayed in place for a moment longer. He pulled out his phone and read the incoming angry text messages from his father. He was so focused on the messages that he didn't notice a couple run into the room, but heard the girl crying with her mom and dad.

Figuring it was time to face his father, he snuck away to the bathrooms and locked himself in a stall to call him. Before he hit the call button, the door slammed open and there were heavy steps. Jonas peeked through the crack of the stall and noticed the blue hair.
He listened cautiously as the boy let out a shuddered sob. His anger seeped through and he started cursing. He kept criticizing himself and saying he was a worthless brother, that he should be stronger. He cried that he couldn't even protect his sister. Jonas will always remember the haunting hoarse yell that escaped the boys lips as he punched the mirror. Then his cursing turned to sorrowful sobs.
Each heartbreaking breath resonated with Jonas and he wanted nothing more than to comfort him. He knew how horrible it was to fail protecting your sibling.
When he was about to open the stall and embrace the boy, the father came rushing in and hugged him tightly. He didn't say anything, just let the boy cry.
He started to beg his dad to let him find the boy who hurt her. His dad reassured him that they will find him, but insisted that he could not fight the St. Vincent's bastard and leave unscathed. They needed the law this time, because if the brother went to find his sister's assaulter, the brother would not be able to control himself and could kill the the bastard. And if he didn't kill him, St. Vincent's would lynch the brother, not Michael. But Jonas could hear the unease and frustration in the father's voice, like he knew that this was going to be a hopeless battle.
The father repeatedly told the brother he loved him and when he calmed down they left the bathroom, leaving Jonas alone with his own tears.
That night, Jonas went back home in hopes to talk to his father about the incident. He wanted to beg him to do something so Michael does not walk away from this. But his father only laughed at his request. Fury overwhelmed Jonas and that night he experienced a lot of firsts.
It was the first time Jonas raised his voice at his father and got in his face.
It was the first time his father had a murderous look in his eyes.
It was the first time his father used the fire poker to enhance his beatings.
It was the first time Jonas stayed in the basement for over 24 hours.
It was the first time that his father called in a sick day for him at school to hide the fact that he was locked up.
It was the first time, but it was definitely not the last time during his school year.
He finally went to school on a Friday with shot nerves. He was filled with anger and self loathing. Michael would never be convicted because of his connections. His father only cared about his name, and not what was right. And the salt in the wound was the realization that his father would never treat him with the gentleness and kindness like the brother's father from the hospital. His years of effort were wasted.
That day he saw Michael across campus and the world stopped. His mind only registered a few things.
A girl lost a part of her innocence and can no longer be comfortable around the opposite gender.
A family was heartbroken because corruption tied their hands and blocked them from justice.
A brother's heart was breaking while he admonished himself.
When he was locked in the darkness of the of the basement he was tormented by the girl's cries and the brother's angry sobs echoing in his mind. He could still hear them rattling in his head.
Rage took over and he honed in on Michael. That brother couldn't do anything to Michael, but Jonas could.
He always tried to pacify his father by being the golden child, but the beatings still came. The basement was still there. The aggression will continue to cycle. Why wear the mask of 'Joey Spencer' when it never matter? His father and name be damned.
Michael said something as Jonas neared him, but his words didn't quite register in Jonas' mind. He only heard something about ruining his good time.
That was enough to finally let loose and erase all lingering inhibitions. He only woke from his rage induced daze when the security guards dragged him off Michael's body. He had no idea if he was yelling words or growling like a beast, but he assumed it was the latter because from that moment on he was no longer Joey. He was the Wolf.

A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!
