《Kings of Hawkings [bxb]》Chapter 4

Several of the kids around the table still shivered, wondering where the crazy Wolf was. They were completely oblivious that the Wolf was at their table, now finished with his lunch and silently listening to their conversation.
Jaiden coughed, wanting to change the subject, he turned towards Hugh. "Anyone challenge your crown?"
Jonas raised an eyebrow, not sure what he asked Hugh. Travis noticed the look and leaned over. "Hawkings is a bit different from other schools. We don't have the typical social structure, where people flocked to the jocks, or St. Vincent's embarrassing 'Elite'. We have Kings. The Kings are the strongest people in the school that no one wants to cross unless they want their crown."
Jonas nodded understanding. He had heard of the Kings of Hawking, but never paid attention to it, especially last year. St. Vincent's always said that the Kings were the most dangerous students in the school, but no one knew how it was decided. It was common knowledge to avoid the Hawkings boys with crowns on their jackets. Cross them, and you can lose your life.
Now he came to conclusion that it was because of their fighting abilities. He glanced at the proud looking Hugh and finally noticed the golden crown emblem pinned on his jacket. He didn't know how he missed it considering he seemed to have noticed everything else about Hugh.
"Had this crown since Freshman year. No one bothers with challenging me anymore." Hugh pouted when he said the last line.
Jaiden rolled his eyes. "Hugh and Millan are kings." He pointed to their gold crown emblems.
Millan shrugged. "It's a burden, especially when working with an idiot."
Jaiden pointed to three other guys, "Tank, Rodgers, and Sam are the other kings." Jonas realized that Tank was the guy who hit him today.
"Ah. Tank, the idiot." Jonas said, understanding what Millan meant.
Jaiden smirked. "A lot of people are actually wondering if Tank should be replaced as a King."
Travis giggled. "Looks like we will have three Kings in our group."
Jonas jerked his head. "What?"
"You made him retreat with just a glare. People noticed." Hugh said nonchalantly.
Jonas groaned. "Can't I just refuse it."
"I tried." Millan said, mimicking his groan.
Hugh laughed. "I don't know what the issue is. I love it!"
"That's because you love fighting, you crazy bastard! That's why everyone calls you Mad Dog!" Jaiden laughed.
Jonas glanced up. He didn't know much about the Kings, but had heard of Mad Dog. He just assumed he would have graduated by now because the name had come up the last couple years at St. Vincent's.
Hugh mentioned he was a young King, but Jonas didn't snap that he was actually the most ruthless King out there. If you run into the Mad Dog King, you run.

He was already brutal before, but went on a crazed mean streak last year around the time Jonas was dubbed Wolf. Last year St. Vincent's only feared two individuals; The Mad Dog and The Wolf.
"I think Jo likes it too. You should go take it now." Hugh teased. Without letting Jonas answer, Hugh stood up and looked at Tank's location. "Tank, you dick! How's that crown you're holding?"
This caused the cafeteria to fall silent.
The only ones making noises were the other four Kings who were chuckling. Hugh was always bored and wanted to create some excitement. Jonas cursed him inwardly. He seriously just wanted to lay low this last year of high school.
Tank roared on the other side of the cafeteria and started to stalk towards them with clenched fists. "What the fuck is that four eyed fairy saying about me."
Jonas was planning on ignoring Tank and Hugh's provocation, but when he heard the insult, he slipped off his glasses and placed them on the book. His hands ran through his hair, to keep it out of his eyes. He would never allow anyone to get away with a homophobic insult.
Everyone's attention was turned towards the towering Tank, except for Hugh. His eyes lit up with excitement when he saw Jonas revealing his grey eyes.
The group at the table stayed in place. They didn't really fear another King when they were together, because they had two already. Only Travis was shaking, but that was because he was so mad about the word 'fairy'.
Jonas reached out and ruffled his blonde curls with his large hand. Travis calmed down with the movement and looked at Jonas. His eyes widened when he noticed that Jonas took off his glasses. He wanted to talk Jonas out of fighting with Tank, especially if it was for his sake. He was about to protest, but Jonas gave him a small wink.
Tank slapped a beefy hand on Jonas' shoulder. "Did you not hear me, bitch?"
One thought ran through Jonas' mind. 'Fuck it.'
Jonas poorly stifled a yawn. "I throw trash out, not listen to it."
Tank paused, not really understanding the statement, but he knew that Jonas was insulting him when the others started to laugh.
Jonas lifted his hand and held it out with his palm up. Tank looked down at it. "What the fuck are you doing?"
Jonas raised an eyebrow and finally looked at Tank. "Waiting for my crown."
"What?" He spit out.
Jonas sighed. "You came here to give me my crown."
"You little bitch!" Tank pulled back and then threw his fist towards Jonas' face. Jonas smirked and moved his head to the side, avoiding it. He grabbed Tank's arm, holding him still. He then swept his legs underneath Tank, making him collapse on the ground. Jonas moved and quickly landed on top of him, his forearm against Tank's throat.

His other hand grabbed the emblem on the jacket and slipped it off. "Thanks for the delivery." Jonas stood up and pinned the emblem on his jacket before he sat back down. Tank was stunned and just looked at his now plain jacket with wide eyes and a pale face.
Hugh started to laugh, breaking the shocked silence. "Any disputes?" He yelled out when he calmed down.
"Nope." Millan said.
"No." Sam yelled and gave Jonas a thumbs up.
Rodgers was laughing too hard and could only shake his head.
Tank stood up, aghast, "You!"
Jonas cut him off with a glare. "Stop wasting my time."
Tank stormed off, pushing whoever was in his way. He punched a dent in the door and stormed out. They could still hear him cursing down the hallway.
Hugh started to clap, leading the cafeteria to erupt with cheers. No one liked Tank as a King. Hugh got up and sat next to Jonas. "Let me see your phone."
Jonas tossed it to him and Hugh laughed. "No passcode? So trusting."
He started to flip through it and sighed. "Never mind. So boring! You don't have social media? You hardly have any contacts. No wonder you don't have a passcode." Hugh started to type in contacts into his phonebook.
Hugh then sent an invite to Jonas' number for a couple of chats and accepted them while on his phone. "Alright. Now you have everyone's number who is at this table, including the other Kings. You have three chats, one for school announcements, one for this group, and one for just us Kings. Damn it feels good kicking Tank out of that chat."
"A chat for Kings?"
"Despite what Tank showed you, we take our shit seriously." Hugh said with a wink.
Hugh then shared Jonas' contact information with everyone else. Jonas watched how his once silent phone was starting to blow up with notifications.
Jonas sighed, aware that he didn't know how to socialize in a chat after being casted out before. He had all of this before his Junior year of High school; chats, contacts, social media, and friends. But it had been dead air for so long, so he eventually deleted everything and changed his number. The only people who contacted him were his brother and the people at his gym.
He looked at the chat with the large group around him and they all sent welcoming gifs and emojis.
: Welcome new king
: Welcome!!!!
: Now we can stalk you! Where's your social media?
: Nice take down on Tank! Welcome!
: Third King in our group! Holy shit!
: Don't be shy, sweetheart. Say hi to the group.
: *Middle finger emoji*
: Sweetheart! I'm offended.
: Or were you offering something, because I'm down.
Jonas looked up from the chat and saw the silver haired boy's broad shoulders trembling as he was laughing. He didn't get mad or offended. He actually was enjoying his time with this group, and was mesmerized by Hugh and his sense of humor. It made him want to relax a little and just start being himself again. He hesitated for a second and typed a new message.
: Careful babe, I bite.
Hugh straightened his back as the message came through. The group roared when they saw the message and some patted Jonas on the back. No one through that he would be insane to type such a message with such a stony face. Hugh laughed too but the tips of his ears were pink again.
: Promise? ;)
Jonas let out a small chuckle that no one noticed except for Hugh who was sitting next to him. He stared at Jonas with a surprised look. "Sweetheart, was that a fucking laugh?" It came out as whisper, as if wanting it to be a secret between them.
Jonas placed an elbow on the table and rested his head on his hand while looking at Hugh. Something about Hugh made him want to keep teasing. "Don't tell anyone, babe."
Hugh felt something stir inside of him as the mysterious boy called him babe. There was something about Jonas that drew him to him. Perhaps it was similarities between them, or because Jonas was trying so hard to hide who he was.
He wrapped his arm around Jonas's shoulders and they got up to go to their next class.
Jonas noticed the immediate difference while walking down the halls. Everyone looked at the emblem on his jacket and split down the hallway, letting him pass and not getting in his way. Perhaps this would not be as bad as he thought. Maybe he would face a challenge from time to time, but once he proved himself, people will actually leave him alone.
Hugh walked him to his next class and leaned in. "Until later, sweetheart. I know you'll miss me."
Jonas snorted and pushed his arm off. "Fuck off." His tone was playful, causing Hugh to walk away with a grin.
Hugh was heading towards his class, but was running late because he escorted Jonas so the halls were empty. He passed by a group of teachers who were acting suspicious and talking in hushed voices. Hugh pulled himself behind a corner and listened in.
"I can't believe they let him come here."
"I know! He's a menace, isn't he?"
"A danger to society! I have heard the rumors and about the kids he almost killed."
"And now that Wolf is a King?"
Hugh faltered. Wolf? Was Jonas the Wolf? He smiled a little wider. Maybe he really did bite.

I was a webnovel junkie for a long time, but I found it hard to find novels with solid characters, decent plot, philosophical underpinnings and a fully painted world to keep me going. I've taken from every genre I've liked to make a story that satisfies my own cravings for a good story. If you like the story or have suggestions please leave a comment or review. I hope this novel is fun, provocative but above all fun. Enjoy. Yours truly, James Paul Addington PS I will release at least two chapters a week, or one really long chapter. Concerning the tags: The story is primarily Fantasy with Wuxia influence in some elements. Romance won't happen for the first two arcs or so (roughly 40 chapters), I want to build the world before I do that. Tragedy is because of an event that occurs in the book, not the tone of the book. The book is more lighthearted. Slice of Life doesn't occur till the third arc (the romance happens during that arc as well). Magic will also show up more in later arcs, but appears throughout. Reincarnation it's not a reincarnation like in the traditional sense, but it has a similar concept.
