《Kings of Hawkings [bxb]》Chapter 3

Jaiden forced Jonas to follow him to the cafeteria and sit with their group. He found that there were at least five more guys in the group and were joking around with Travis. Jonas' eyes flicked towards Hugh, watching how he was lounging with his back against the table and laughing with someone he didn't know.

Everyone noticed him immediately and gave their cheerful greetings. But Jonas responded with his steely nod. He didn't interact much with the others and only listened into the conversations around him. A year of being a social outcast caused a drastic decline in his social skills.

While eating, one of the boys knocked on the table excitedly and got the others attention. "Did you guys hear? St. Vincent's Wolf disappeared. Didn't show up today for school."

Jonas faltered for a moment, but continued eating. He was unaware that Hugh's perceptive eyes were watching him.

"How the fuck do you know what is happening at that school?"

The kid rolled his eyes. "We all know someone who knows someone who goes there. It's seriously the talk of the school today, both St. Vincent's and Hawkings."

Travis looked cautiously around the cafeteria. "Do you think it's true? You know, what they say about him?"

Hugh smirked a little, watching Jonas carefully. "There are so many stories about the Wolf. What have you heard?"

Travis knew a lot of gossip, things that Hawkings couldn't really obtain. The inner workings of St. Vincent's were kept under strict secrecy, but Travis could always find the rumors. He leaned in with a grin. "He used to be pretty popular, a St. Vincent's Elite even, but he just went crazy one day. Like something in his mind snapped. He almost killed some kid about a year ago."

Jaiden scoffed. "Everyone has heard about that. But I heard he tore the kid to pieces. Literally. Half the school needed therapy after that."

Travis rolled his eyes at the exaggeration and ignored Jaiden. "They call him an untamed animal. He was only able to attend school after threatening the staff there. He told them he would kill their families if they tried to kick him out. It was basically a hostage situation for an entire year. Everyone was scared to approach him because of how strong and volatile he was. If you got in his way, he would run you down with no mercy.

"We can't say anything for certain about his strength. He never went up against a King, so his abilities are a mystery. But there are plenty of rumors about him. Like how a student bumped into him and got hunted down like a dog, he even going to the extent of ripping a door off the hinges to get to that kid. One time, he trapped a group in an abandoned classroom and destroyed them by slamming them into desks and shoving their heads through windows. When the teachers tried to stop him, he attacked them too. Didn't stop until he was restrained by five security guards. They blocked it from the news, but he sent many people to the hospital last year."

Travis shuddered a little after recounting the rumors but continued. "From what I hear, the most disturbing thing about him are his eyes. They say that they are just dead and lifeless. A true killer... a Wolf."

Jonas sighed softly. The truth was exaggerated. However, he definitely had a lot of fights last year. It always ended with the kid provoking him crying on the ground and begging for forgiveness. But it was Jonas who was always screwed in the end.

His major fights last year that were memorable for both him and the school. The one at the beginning of the year that started everything, making him lose his Elite standing and became dubbed 'The Wolf'. Then the beginning of the second term, he got caught in another fight in an abandoned classroom and was seriously wounded. He was so angry that day and he fought through his injuries, hurting himself even more.

Unfortunately, that brawl was a little brutal. A couple teachers got involved and were mildly injured when trying to stop him. However, out of all the people involved, the only one that needed to go to the hospital was him. The last fight of his Junior year occurred on the last day of school and was the hardest. He still wakes up in the middle of the night from the recurring nightmares.

Perhaps after all the bullshit he endured, his eyes did become lifeless. Why bother having expressive eyes when no one dared to look you in the eyes?

He was still in his own thoughts, but he perked up when heard the next outrageous tale from Travis.

"... He sharpened his teeth to look like canines and started to bite people. The hospital thought that there was a wild dog running around, but no one had the courage to tell the doctors that it was a human who did it."

Travis leaned in closer, everyone was deathly silent. "After a full year of living under his reign of terror, some kids decided to make a stand and went up against him. 20 against 1."

Millan growled. "Sounds like a dirty fight to me."

Hugh agreed with Millan. "St. Vincent's is filled with weak assholes. They would never cut it over here."

Travis waved his hands to silence them. "Stop! I'm not done! The craziest part about this fight was that he won! Even though he was outnumbered and barehanded, he won."

"Barehanded? Did those bastards have weapons?" Hugh asked with anger laced in his voice.

Travis shrugged. "No one really says - they just mention him being barehanded maybe to emphasize how brutal he is. Either way, no one could take down the Wolf and he thrashed every person there. When he was done he stood in the middle of the bodies covered in blood, and just laughed. Then he just walked off in the middle of the night and disappeared. It was that night that he left his first and last post on social media.

"So now, everyone is trying to figure out what happened to him. Did he die? Did he go to jail? The asylum? They even started to say that he's hiding in the graveyard, running around at night and biting the throats of young girls. It's more eerie to not know where he is and people are starting a 'Spotting the Wolf' thread, claiming to catch glimpses him like he's bigfoot."

Jonas stared at the group with wide eyes. Did they actually believe this bullshit story? Biting people? Killing people? Did they make him out to be utterly psychotic? Now they are trying to hunt him down like some cheap urban legend?

Travis unlocked his phone and pulled up the app that had location pins on a map. Some were accurate of his location, such as the area around the gym and the graveyard, but he also saw some in areas like Mexico or Hawaii.

Jaiden grinned. "You should totally add a pin to Hawkings. I bet that would make St. Vincent's squirm."

Jonas caught himself flinching a little and quickly looked up to see if anyone notice. He saw a pair of bright green eyes boring into him.

"His social media post is more exciting that that app." Hugh said, not looking away from Jonas.

Travis' attention was quickly diverted and he jump to the social media app. "You're right. I just wish there was a profile picture."

He found the profile, which had the the standard grey silhouette profile image.

Username: Wolf*

Location: St. Vincent's

Followers: 2,116

Travis showed everyone the post.

Jonas remembered typing that and posting it. He was furious that night, being ambushed by a group of people. The numbers were exaggerated, but not the part about weapons. He ran his hand through his hair, touching the scar on the back of his head. It was a gift from the bat that one of the kids used. It was just one of the scars from the night, but definitely the most serious. He knew he was done with St. Vincent's at that time. He created a simple profile with the username 'Wolf'. Then he set his location at St. Vincent's and typed his frustration.

Afterwards he felt like an idiot and deleted all of his social media profiles, except for the Wolf one. For some reason, he wanted it active still. But he deleted the application from his phone and placed it at the back of his mind.

"Shit. How does he have over 2,000 followers? And he has a verified account?" Scott, one of the boys at the table yelled out. The verified account was a status symbol. You had to have enough people following you and vouching that you're a celebrity in your own right to have the star by your name.

Travis chuckled. "So many people are interested in him. Hell, most people at Hawkings follow him."

Hugh laughed. "I followed him the night he posted this. I love this guy."

Jonas groaned inwardly. He had no idea that whim caused such a stir. He had never checked his profile this entire time.

Jaiden sighed. "I wonder what happened to him and those kids."

Travis grinned. "They used money to hide the details, so all we have are rumors. The school built a memorial for the students on the location of the fight. But it was really to cover up the blood stains they couldn't remove. No one knows what happened to the Wolf and why he didn't continue posting."

Hugh watched him with the same smile on his face. "You're new here, Jonas, what are you thoughts about our town's big bad wolf?"

Jonas rolled his eyes. "Bullshit."

Travis clicked his tongue. "You're no fun. I thought you like scary stories." He pointed towards the book next to Jonas.

"I do, but you're missing key elements of the story." He mused.

The others were confused and started to bombard Jonas with questions trying to understand what he meant.

Hugh laughed. "I have to agree with Jo, here. You said he was popular before, and Elite even. At St. Vincent's you're the top of the world if you're popular, so there is no reason why he would have just 'snapped'. Something happened to bring him from popular socialite to wolf."

His eyes ran over to Jonas again who was just eating his sandwich. He didn't let anyone notice the elation hearing Hugh call him 'Jo'. Besides his brother, only one other person called him that, so it created a connection he didn't realize he yearned for.

Hugh shrugged. "But I do want to know what he's doing right now. He seems like the perfect person for this school. All fists, and keeps his mouth shut - we'll except for when he is biting."

The table laughed and Jonas shook his head. Hugh was pretty close to the truth. Jonas was thinking he was perfect for this school.
