《The Deal》Chapter 17

The Deal
The night of the party Austin waited downstairs for her dressed in his tux, his tie not done up yet as he went through the pile of bills that had arrived that day. He came across one from a dress shop that he had heard of. His eyes went wide when he saw what he was being charged for a dress that he hadn't bought. He couldn't believe the nerve of Blair, charging a three thousand dollar dress to him. No way was he going to let her get away with it, she would be paying him back. He was still fuming over the bill and hadn't heard her enter the room until she spoke.
"You look so dashing and handsome in your tux."
He turned to give her hell but when he saw her in that dress his anger vanished, replaced with a sense of amazement and pride. She was drop dead gorgeous, the dress hugged her curves, her hair hung down, flowing over her shoulders and down her back. She wore the necklace he bought her along with a pair of dangling earrings. She seemed to glide towards him in her high heels.
"You look so beautiful, you take my breath away with your beauty."
"Thank you," she said, reaching up she does up his tie. "I'm looking forward to tonight and meeting the people you work with and some of your friends."
"I don't recall saying you could buy a dress and charging it to me."
Her hands still touching his chest she bats her eyes at him. "I knew you'd want me to dress to impress your friends and business associates so I figured it was only fair that you pay for it. You have to admit that this dress is going to make a good impression."
He knew he couldn't argue with her, she was right. "But did you have to pay this much for one dress?" he asked, holding up the bill.
"You get what you pay for, sweetheart," she said, running her fingertip over his bottom lip, then she picked up her purse. "Shall we go? We don't want to be late."
He watched as she walked away, he could see the outline of her figure through the dress. Her ass looked great and he started getting a little turned on. Grabbing his keys they left the house and got into his car.
When they reached their destination he stopped the car, handing his keys over to the parking attendant and went around to open her door, taking her hand. The function was being held at the famous Empire hotel. She draped her arm over his as they entered the hall, eyes turned to look at them when they walked in. He was pleased, they did make a beautiful couple together.
A glass of champagne was handed to them and they walked around, he introduced her to some of his colleagues. She also met Harry's wife, Fran, a lovely lady who Blair took an instant liking to. The two women wandered off, leaving their husbands to talk with some of the other men.

"Blair looks so beautiful, you really are a lucky man Austin," Harry said, clinking glasses with him. "Our wives are hitting it off. I honestly don't know why you say she is a stuck up spoiled brat, she seems really nice and down to earth."
He looks over at Blair, she was talking to a group of people and she seemed so at ease with people she had never met before. "Don't let her sweet smile fool you, Harry. Right now she is putting on a nice front for these people."
"I don't know, she seems genuine to me."
After mingling for a while he went over to where she was talking to a couple. Sliding his hand around her waist he greeted the couple. "I see you met my wife."
"Oh yes, and she's absolutely adorable."
"Yes, she sure is. I hope you don't mind me stealing my wife away for a dance," he said, taking her hand led her onto the dance floor. His arm snaked around her waist, pulling her close as he held her hand.
"This is a lovely party, I'm so glad we came," she said, resting her head on his shoulder.
He closed his eyes for a second, taking in the scent of her hair. "You really do look beautiful in this dress, it fits your body like a glove." He liked the way she felt, her body so slender and taut, there wasn't an ounce of fat on her anywhere. After the second dance, he knew he had to put some space between them. He didn't want to appear vulnerable around her or she would have the upper hand over him. So separating from her he excused himself, saying he had to talk to someone.
Over the next couple of hours, he ignored her, making sure he was busy talking to someone when she saw him. He did keep an eye on her and she seemed to be doing alright as she mingled, talking to several different people. She really was a pro at parties, showing grace and class, he was quite impressed with her.
He met up with Harry and they talked, both wives were off talking to other people.
"Austin, why are you ignoring Blair? I think she's a little hurt that you aren't paying her any attention."
"Just letting her know what it's like to be ignored," he replied.
"You know, I had a chance to talk to her and I must say that she is nothing like you described. I think you are stuck in the past when it comes to her. I believe she has changed."
"You're wrong, she hasn't."
I suggest you pay her some attention, other men are starting to follow her around and I think they are hitting on her. Excuse me Austin, you may want to be away from Blair but I want to be with my wife."
He was not happy with Harry for talking to him this way, who was he to tell him how to treat Blair? He checked his watch, it has been over two hours since he talked with her so he decided to go look for her. He spotted her from across the room, she was dancing with a young man, a handsome one at that. His hands were around her waist and he held her too close. They were looking at each other and laughing and then the guy leaned in and whispers in her ear, making her laugh.

Not liking how well they were getting along he walks over, tapping the guy on the shoulder. "Mind if I cut in?" Not waiting for him to answer he pulls her from his grip. "Yeah, you better walk away pal," he said to the man's back.
"Was that really called for?" she asked, clearly annoyed at him.
"You two were getting a little too cozy."
"Are you jealous Austin?"
"Hardly. I just don't want my associates seeing my wife flirt with another man."
"Flirting, I wasn't flirting, I was having some fun. You've been ignoring me most of the night and it was nice having a man pay some attention to me. If anyone is doing some flirting it's you. I saw you talking to the women here, all smiles and being charming to them. Oh, just forget it, I'm not going to argue with you," she said, pulling away from his hold walked away, heading over to Harry and his wife.
Austin followed her, standing next to Harry.
"Sweetheart, will you go get us another drink?" Blair said, handing him her empty glass. She was still pissed at him. He had kept his distance from her most of the night and now he wouldn't leave her side.
When he was taking too long coming back she excused herself and went looking for him. She could almost smell the smoke coming from her ears when she saw him talking to a brunette who had her hands on his chest. That old green-eyed monster made it's way out as she stormed over to them. Butting in front of them, making the woman having to drop her hands from him.
"Darling, who is this woman?" she asked, giving her the once over.
"Blair, meet Betty."
Her head shot up to look at him. "Betty, as in your ex-wife?"
"That's right dear, and you must be the replacement wife," she said, giving Blair the snake eye as she looked her up and down. "I really don't know what you see in her."
Austin, sensing a cat fight about to break out he put his arm around Blair's waist to hold her back from Betty. "OK ladies, let's be civil, we're in a public place."
"When he looks at me he sees all of my original parts, not fake boobs and botox injections that you obviously have. I'd say he traded up." She grinned when Betty's nose flared and her eyes twitched, rolling her hands up to make a fist.
"Austin, it was great seeing you again but I should get back to my date. I'll be in town for a few days. If you have time maybe we can get together for coffee and catch up."
"I'm afraid my husband will be too busy for that."
He tightened his grip on her waist. "It was good seeing you too Betty."
When Betty was gone she removed his arm from her waist. "Are you kidding me? Good to see her too, the woman cheated on you. Whatever did you see in that woman?"
"I was being polite, that's what civilized people do. I kind of like this jealous side of you, you look sexy when you're mad and being possessive. It makes me hot and wanting to ravish you. Perhaps we could find a private place and I'll toss a quickie into you."
"You're a pig," she said, giving him a shove walked away, leaving him with a smirk on his face. She was still muttering under her breath when she walked into the ladies room. She rolled her eyes when she saw that Betty was there. "Not you again," she hissed, walking over to the mirror and taking out her lipstick.
Betty was about to leave but stopped. "I feel sorry for Austin being married to you. You think you're all that with your expensive clothes and having come from a wealthy family but deep down you're nothing but a cheap, spoiled brat who only cares about herself. You don't care who you hurt."
She turned to face Betty. "Me, I've never hurt anyone. But you, you cheated on Austin more than once. You're the one who doesn't care who they hurt so don't you dare judge me."
Betty moved closer to her. "Yes, I cheated on Austin, I had my reasons for doing so."
"What possible reason could you have? you were newlyweds."
"Oh, he hasn't told you, has he?"
"Told me what?"
"Why I cheated on him. I suggest that if you want to know the answer you go and ask him. Maybe he'll be honest with you." She turned and walked away, shouting over her shoulder. "I still say he can do much better than you."
When Austin finally found her he grabbed her arm. "Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you."
"I was having an interesting talk with Betty in the ladies room."
He ran his hand over his face. "Oh God, did you two get into it again?"
"I asked her why she cheated on you."
His eyes went wide and he released her arm. "What did she say?"
"That I should ask you. So I'm asking, why would she cheat on you?"
"It was a long time ago, and I told you before I'm not discussing my marriage to her with you or anyone. Now let it go or we'll have a big problem."
His words came out harsh, bringing tears to her eyes. "I want to go home."
He looked at his watch and saw it was getting late. "Alright, let's go," he said, taking her arm they left the party, not bothering to say goodbye to anyone.
