in a hurry, shoving Adam and my own jackets into our bags. I walk into the kitchen grabbing our premade sandwiches and our water bottles, before walking outside to where Lily and Damion are sitting.
"You guys sure you don't want to join us? It'll be fun..." I ask.
"Isabelle, I hate hikes. As good at sport as I may be, I actually hate walking up massive mountains," Lily says, rolling her eyes. I grin at Lily and just shake my head.
"Damion, you sure you - " I get cut off by Lily.
"We've got something planned," Lily says quickly. I tilt my head to the side and frown.
"Okay..." I narrow my eyes at Lily questionably which she only turns her head away from.
"You ready?" A deep voice asks from behind me. I quickly turn around and nod my head enthusiastically, chucking Adam his bag in the process.
"Have fun kids!" I hear Lily shout from behind us. I laugh and flip her off.
"Use protection!" I shout back, making Lily's face go red. I burst out into another fit of laughter. Adam and I continue our walk into the mountains behind the house, deep in our own thoughts. I squint my eyes as the sun streams through the trees that sway in the evening breeze.
Ten minutes of walking and no talk. Nothing. And to be honest, I have no fucking idea where we are.
Finally, fed up with this ever-growing silence, I decide to say something. "So, where we off to, Bad Boy?" I ask.
Adam looks down at me and grins. I narrow my eyes at him questionably but he only shrugs his shoulders. I sigh in defeat and run ahead of him.

"Do you even know where we are? It's been ten minutes and I already have no fucking clue!" I yell to Adam who's behind me.
"Nope, but that's the fun thing, trying to find your way back home after marvelling at the sight of the beautiful mountains," he shouts back. I roll my eyes and suddenly stop, making Adam bump into me.
I throw my head back in laughter while Adam gives me a soft nudge. He grins at me before we start walking again.
We watch in awe as the sun dances peacefully on the lake in front of us. Beautiful oranges and pinks mix with each other in the sky as the sun starts to set. A smile grazes my lips as I sit and listen to the sound of nature.
Birds chirp while water from the river crashes against one another. Peace.
"Isabelle?" Adam suddenly says. I turn my head to him questionably.
"Yeah?" I whisper quietly.
"I - I need to tell you what happened between David and I but I just can't -- not yet," Adam says with his head in his hands.
I frown and bite my lip nervously. Gently, I place my hand on his back and rub soothing circles in an attempt to calm him.
"Tell me when you're ready, Adam..." I whisper. Adam nods his head and looks up at me, regret evident in his eyes. He looks so...vulnerable?
"I'll tell you about my dad though. It's a part of Davids and my history," he croaks out. I nod my head and smile.
"Okay."
Adam sighs and turns his head back to the sunset in front of us.
"I remember when I was younger and my dad always told me to be kind to the people around me and to care for the ones that couldn't care for themselves..." He starts, quickly glancing at me. I smile softly at him and grab his hands in mine.

"That night my father died -- I remember so vividly. I was sitting down watching TV and playing dolls with Millie – don't ask - and Dad came up to us and gave us a hug, telling us he was going to be home later. He didn't come home when he said he was going to be and so Mum started to get worried. She tried calling him and he didn't pick up, until the eighth voice message, when another person picked the phone up..." Adam whispers.
"Adam, you don't have to tell me," I say quietly. He shakes his head and stares at me for a few seconds.
"Isabelle, you deserve to know what happened that night." I nod my head for him to continue.
"A police officer picked up saying there was an attack on three men and that my dad was in the hospital in a really bad state. He gave it to my mum straight with no emotion in his voice. It was like he didn't care...My mum rushed to hospital with these two kids and was talking like crazy to the receptionist. We didn't make it, Isabelle. He died and we didn't get to say goodbye." Adams' face contorts into something of anger and sadness as the memories of the night his father died flashback into his head.
I quickly pull Adam into my arms. Tears fill my eyes as I know the pain. I know what it feels like to lose a parent, and I know how it feels to not be able to say goodbye.
"Isabelle, my father died trying to protect your dad and David's. Your dad was the only survivor that night, David's Dad shot himself in the guilt of what happened." We both are quiet after that, both trying to grab hold of the few memories we could remember of our parents.
Adam sits up from his position and uses the pad of his thumbs to wipe my tears away from my cheeks.
"Isabelle, can I kiss you again?" He asks. I sadly smile up at Adam and stare into his grey orbs before nodding my head.
His lips meet mine in a second. Our emotions pour into each other as our kiss deepens. Tingles run up and down my body as he pulls me closer. Adam slowly breaks apart from the kiss, leaving us both breathless.
"What are you doing to me, Isabelle Thompson?" He asks as he draws circles on my cheekbone. I shake my head and take in the rest of his features, him doing the same. A silence follows shortly after before Adam breaks it, saying the one thing I would never have expected him to say to me.
"I think I'm falling for you, Isabelle, and I don't know if you'll be able to catch me on the way down..."
