Damions POV

Her tiny wolf lay motionless on the ground beside the tree.

Fuck.

Gray really messed up this time. She's not moving, he slashed her back which caused her to collide with a tree.

Now she's unconscious.

I shift back to normal.

My Beta and Gamma come out from the bushes with a pair of shorts in hand.

"Did you kill the rouge" Derrick asks

"No, this one will come back with us" I reply. Not mentioning the Mate part. No one can know that right now. Not until we decide what to do with this little wolf.

What I want to do with this wolf

When I bend over to pick her up, Sparks spread across my arms the instant we touch. Tiny zaps of electricity soaring across my body.

Her wolf is so small compared to Gray. It feels like I'm carrying nothing at all.

I inspect her wounds. Although Gray was rough, her wounds should already be healing by now.

Why isn't this wolf healing? And why is she so small?

Signaling Derrick and Justin to run ahead, I gather her things and follow after them. It's only 20 miles to our pack lands from here. If I let Gray loose, he would make it in half the time. But right now, he's really possessive over his newly found mate, I can't risk letting him carry her back. There's no way of knowing how he will act if anyone got too close to her.

We make it to the pack lands and I immediately take her to see our pack doctor, Jasmine.

"Put her on that table" she says

I carefully place her down, trying not to make her wounds any worse.

"What happened to her Alpha?" She asks

"Derrick and Jackson picked up a rouge scent after we fought a pack of them. We thought it was one that had escaped us so we hunted her down. When we finally caught up to her, Gray was too into the hunt and slashed her back. She should have healed by now but it looks like she's weaker than a normal wolf. That's why I've brought her to you. Tell no one she is here. I'll be back to check on her later" I command.

She nods her head and begins her assessment.

I leave out the part of her being my mate, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with her.

Years ago, I gave up any hope of having a mate. It is said that the males in our line have been cursed by the Moon Goddess herself, destined to walk this earth alone. Lycans have a longer life span than a regular werewolf, we can outlive them by 50 years if not more.

So, it's not that surprising we wouldn't have a mate. It would be more of a curse if anything, to have such a short time together since we live so much longer.

Over the years, this caused some resentment, so the Alphas in our line have been angrier, more aggressive as the years have gone on.

Why did the Moon Goddess suddenly pick now to pair an Alpha in our line with a mate.

Why did that Alpha have to be me.
