"I'm a flame
You're a fire
I'm the dark in need of light
When we touch, you inspire
Feel the change in me tonight
But when they strike, we light up the world."
"Pizza." I said defiantly.
"Pasta," he said, shaking his head.
"Pizza!" I dead-panned, slamming my hand on the table.
He placed his hand over mine, "Pasta." He said, taking my hand in hand.
My cheeks turned pink but I had to keep fighting for pizza!
"Pizza." I said for the last time and he opened his mouth to retaliate but I cut him off.
"Chance, why are you even denying? You and I both know you love pizza. You said that the other day." I asked.
"Maybe I just like arguing with you?" He grinned, winking at me.
I rolled my eyes, "Seriously?"
"Yup! You look so cute when you're mad," he pinched my cheek to emphasize and I forced a frown on my face even when I was squealing in the inside.
"Stop," I muttered, trying to hide the blush as I swatted his hand.
He chuckled and pulled back.
We were currently sitting in the school cafeteria, along with the rest of the "squad". The boys requested me and Katherine to sit along and we agreed. Andrew had gone after 2nd period. Where? I have no idea.
Ryder wasn't here either.
"Honestly," I tried to change the topic,"I won't be surprised if you turned out to be the kind of guy who watches Disney movies while cuddling with a pillow in a fluffy blanket."
I looked up to see him hiding his face.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he mumbled.
I grinned goofily, "Do you watch Disney movies, Chancie-poo?"
"N-no."
"You soooo do," I gushed while poking his shoulder as his cheeks turned a little pink.
"HE DOES!" Reece butted in, "And I am pretty sure he has watched all of them."
A smirk made it's way through my lips and I looked at Chance while wiggling my eyebrows, "Disney guy, huh?"

"And and and," Reece said excitedly, "Guess which is his favorite one?"
"Urm, Tangled?" I asked, taking a wild guess.
Reece shook his head, "Nope! It's Frozen. He loves Ola-"
"Oh shut up. That's enough now." Chance interrupted as he glared at Reece for 'embarrassing him'.
Reece only winked goofily at him.
"Hi I am Olaf and I like warm hugs!" Reece said, spreading his arms wide, slapping a wide grin on his face.
Chance glared daggers at him and smacked him hard in the head. "You little piece of shit!"
"So you like warm hugs, huh?" I teased.
"Well, I don't mind as long as it is you," he said, smiling cheesily and I rolled my eyes, a silly grin forming on my face.
"Whatever," I muttered and he chuckled, wrapping his arms around me.
And in that moment, I realized that I don't know about Chance but I don't only like warm hugs.
I love them.
"Howdy," Ryder greeted, as he came running to where we were all sitting in the football field.
Our P.Ed. (physical education) teacher was absent and we were all seated in the football field, passing time.
"Where were you?" I asked him as soon as he sat beside me.
"I'll tell you that once your boyfriend stops glaring at me."
I looked around to see Chance literally glared daggers at Ryder from where he was sitting along with his soccer friends.
He had asked me to sit along with them but I wasn't in the mood to listen to jocks brag about how many girls they "scored" so I declined.
I was sitting not far away, on the ground with a novel in my hand. Katherine had gone to a teacher to take some test she missed during her little break.
Chance caught at me looking at him and he flashed me his billion dollar grin. Trying not to get starstruck, I raised my eyebrow at him and muttered, 'behave'.
At first he didn't look like he was going to listen. But then I stood my ground and he turned around, sighing. But not before glaring at Ryder again.

"He literally just mind linked me and said, I quote 'Don't touch my girl'," Ryder muttered, "This guy's freaking crazy."
I chuckled at him. "Are you okay with Chance now?"
He shrugged. "You can't say I am completely okay. I mean, I still get urges to punch his nose. But like, he's tolerable."
I raised an eyebrow as if asking him to explain and he did.
"Actually Katherine told me that your date went well and he treated you well, so like, I'm glad. And I won't kill him. For now."
I sighed. Why do I feel like Katherine has suddenly become our school's personal newsletter on latest update on Olivia and Chance?
"Did she tell you about that too?"
"What, the kiss?" Ryder said loudly deliberately, making faces turn towards us.
"Oh my god!" I groaned covering my face with my hands.
"So like, I needed to tell you something," Ryder said, picking on the grass like a little kid on first day of kindergarten.
His eyebrows were furrowed and he chewed on his lip which he did only when he was trying to concentrate.
"Yeah?" I said, keeping my voice low.
"I don't if I am crazy or not. But I swear I felt that. Oh my, what if I imagined it? Livy, I don't know. Do you think I am ima-"
"Ryder!" I cut off his rambling an he calmed down, sighing.
"I am so sorry. I just..."
I listened patiently..
"Ithinkmymateishere."
I looked at him, confused. "Pardon?"
He sighed. "Livy, I think my mate's here."
My eyebrows shot up as I took the information in.
"OH MY GOD!" I shouted as soon as the information sank in and I tackled him to the ground in a bear hug.
"Oh my god oh my god oh my god! I am so happy for you Ryderrrrr!" I screamed on the top of my lungs, not caring if anyone thought we were crazy.
Because we are crazy.
"Geez, woman calm down." He muttered and got up, making me sit back.
I looked at him excitedly as he started telling me everything.
"So like today when I was walking down the halls, I felt someone's presence like never before. It was weird. Like something pulling me towards itself. Then I got that scent- oh Goddess, Livy I can't explain you, how amazing that scent it was. It was like peaches mixed with something enchanting and I...I couldn't get enough of it. I tried following it but like, it faded as soon as it came...I didn't understand..."
I knew he had more to say, so I didn't interrupt.
"Ferox thinks it's his mate but I don't know, maybe I imagined it? I have been waiting for my mate for 2 years now...and what are the odds that she's in our pack only? Let alone the same school?
But something tells me it's her only. And now I can't find her..."
He tugged his hair in frustration and I pulled my knees towards my chest, turned my chin on it as I thought.
"How come you didn't feel her presence when you came to school before?"
He shrugged. "After turning 18, I came here only once. That too, on the day when you found out that I'll be attending. After that, the rogue attack kept me busy and these last days I skipped because I was ignoring Chance. I didn't want to kill him."
I hid a smile at his protectiveness. It's good to know someone cares so much. Why was he so protective anyway? I wanted to ask him. But that's a question for some other day. It's not important rightnow.
"What do you want to do?"
He frowned. "I think I'll wait...maybe try to catch her scent again? I don't know..."
I nodded and smiled at him. I reached for his hand and squeezdd it reassuringly.
"Don't worry Ryder. You'll find your mate soon and she'll be the best mate ever."
He smiled at me, "I hope so, too."

Chronicles of Trial and Error (re-write)
It was supposed to be a simple trip, a throw back to the highschool joys they once had as teens. Brandon was not ready to go into the light just like that. But alas, the light came to them and he could only resign himself to getting dragged along, taking solace in having Tim along for some of the ride.
8 158Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
