"Right now don't know why I love you

But by the morning when we wake up

I'll reach for you and remember

It was just a paper, just a papercut.

I find refuge in the distance

even when we're breaking down

Can we pause it just for one kiss?"

--

"We're home!" Katherine called out as we entered the threshold of the pack house. The door is bewitched by the witches. The spell makes sure that only the pack members can enter this house. That, or if someone outside the pack tries to, they need the Alpha's or Luna's permission.

"Who's with you Katherine?" A voice said from inside the kitchen and in a while Luna Claire walked out with a tray of freshly prepared cookies in her hands.

She was wearing an apron and proudly wore a flour stain on her face- which I think is a mandatory if you've been baking.

Isn't it?

She looked up to see me standing next to Kat and her eyes lit up.

"Olivia!" She said, excitedly and came to give me a brief hug. I smiled and hugged her back, wishing her a good afternoon.

Lunas are depicted to be highly social and sweet. They are the mother of the pack. It is their job and nature to show affection towards the entire pack.

Luna Claire was no different. The only thing was that she despite being all the above- had the capability of being formal when necessary.

She could be all homey and motherly in the pack. But when she is needed to represent the pack, she can become the strong, Independent and formal woman anyone would admire and idolize.

She was a perfect Luna figure.

Some people though say that the current Luna and Alpha are way too ambitious. There are rumors that they have went to extents of doing dirty jobs to get the pack where they are.

I wonder why people take ambition as a negative quality. Ambition is good. I appreciate ambition.

Luna and Alpha have together got out pack to the position where it is on today and I'd rather be thankful to them.

Looking at Luna Claire, she didn't look like she could be the mother of an eighteen year old at all. Reece definitely picked a lot of his sharp beautiful features from her. Including the sharp pointed nose and the bright eyes.

"What is she doing here?" A voice broke me from my thoughts and I looked above to see Chance standing on the gigantic staircase with his arms crossed over his chest and an angry expression on his face.

My jaw clenched at his ruthless tone and I looked away. I didn't answer or acknowledge him. He doesn't deserve it.

"That is not the way you talk to a young lady," Luna reprimanded Chance with an icy glare and smiled sweetly at me. "Especially if she's so pretty."

I tried not to blush at her compliment and muttered a quick thank you.

"Oh don't be silly," she brushed it off, placing her hand on my back as she guided me towards the stairs.

Chance stood in front of me with the same livid expression and I wondered what I did wrong

This boy confuses me so much I want to wring his neck.

Also, I tried not to notice how absolutely hot he looked in his tight grey v-neck which did nothing to hide his muscular torso and perfect chest.

My mouth watered at the faint outline of the abs through their shirt and I quickly looked away, trying not to gawk.

Chance though, noticed that I was checking him out an smirked at me.

Jerk.

"Be a gentleman now, Chance. And show Olivia the 2nd floor guest room number 4. She'll be staying with us for a while."

The playfulness of his eyes vanished and turned into a cold look.

"2nd FLOOR?" He screeched, livid now. "She'll stay on second floor? Isn't there where my room is? There's NO WAY IN HELL I am letting her near there."

"ENOUGH." Said Luna and her eyes held an anger I have never seen before. "The last time I checked, you are not the in charge of who stays where, Chance."

Oh god. She was using her Luna tone. The alpha and the Luna are equally powerful in a pack and with Chance being the beta, his wolf would naturally submit to the Luna order.

"Yes, Luna." He said in a small obedient tone and with a cold glance at me, he started going upstairs.

Luna gave me back a small push and urged me to follow him.

She had a spark in her eyes which told me that she was planning something.

Oh sweet Jesus. How am I going to survive in a house with Chance without going retarded?

"Your room." Chance muttered gruffly as he gestured towards the room where my luggage was kept.

It was a nice room. Very similar to hotel rooms. A kind size bed in the middle of the adjoining wall, a wall mount TV on the front wall, a window by the side and 2 bean bags placed in front of it. The bed had 2 lampposts. There was a study table by a corner and another coffee table with two chairs. All in all the room was luxurious and beautiful and I wondered of all the guest rooms looked the same.

The wall was beige in colour. Neutral and soothing. I loved it. The sunlight entered the room, casting a beautiful shadow on the wooden flooring and I admired the scenery from the window.

"I'll go now," chance said, moving towards the door but my hand instinctively reached out to grab his wrist and I stopped him.

Sparks shot through my arms from the touch but I chose to ignore them for the sake of my sanity.

"What happened." I asked him. The came out more painful than I intended it too and it was like I was pleading Rather than showing anger.

He clenched his jaw and shut his eyes. "What are your talking about?" He asked.

"You know exactly what I am talking about." I whispered, turning his head towards me and urging him to open his eyes.

His icy grey eyes stared into mine for a second before he shook his head and turned away.

"No."

"Yes." I said stubbornly. "Yes you do. You do know the reason why you're acting like being near to me will cause you some sort of an ancient Chinese influenza!"

He was taken aback by my sentence but soon his lips curled into a damn sexy smirk and leaned closer.

"Ancient Chinese influenza?" He whispered, his eyes holding mine captive.

I tried to stay put but breathe got caught in my throat at our closeness and his cool breathe washed over my face, causing it to warm up in a blush.

Damn mate pull.

"Is that what you call an STD these days?" He asked with a playful glint in his eyes and I shook my head furiously trying to get rid of the stubborn blush.

His thumb caressed my burning cheeks before a sad expression took over his face and he dropped his hand from my hand and freed his wrist from me.

"I think it's better for both of us if we stay away from each other." He said, exiting the room, leaving me standing there with a gaping expression, broken heart and a bruised ego.

"It's okay, Kat, shhhh..." I tried to calm Katherine down as she kept sobbing in my arms by patting her back constantly.

"B-b-but... H-he...w-what if..." She kept sniffing and wheezing as she tried to speakm I hugged her tight which made her stop speaking and she hugged me back.

Her body shook as she kept on weeping and a tear or two fell down my face too.

Confused?

Well, let me tell you what happened a while ago...

I was sleeping soundly on my new bed in this guest room and it must have been around 5 in the morning when my door was thrown open and very panicky Katherine entered.

"OLI!" She screamed as she tried to wake me up. She shook me and tried to break my slumber but I brushed her off and tried to sleep again.

"Go away..." I mumbled in a sleepy voice,"Lemme sleep." I whispered and buried my face in my pillow.

"Oh god," she smacked her forehead. "You have to wake up, Oli! You...you don't understand... A rogue group attacked the pack border!"

At first I got nothing. But then words started seeping in.

Rogues... Pack border... Attack... Oh my god.

I woke up in a jerk and looked at Katherine in alarm.

She stood there with tears in her eyes and her hair and face was a mess. It looked like she had been running her fingers through them a lot.

"Kat..." I whispered, "I..."

She didn't let me finish as she hugged me and started sobbing on my shoulder.

It's been a while since then and she hasn't stopped crying.

"What happened, Kat?" I whispered, once her sobs died down.

"He.." she sniffed, "He went with t-them Oli, I-I'm scared...h-how will...?"

"Who?" I asked, furrowing my brows in confusion.

"Mark." She replied in a pained voice and my heart filled with sympathy for her.

Her father being the pack warrior had obviously went to help with the attack, but Mark was her brother. Even though he was an year older than her- he was still just 19 and too young to fight wars.

Especially if they are with rogues.

I knew that the attack must have been severe for Katherine to cry so hysterically.

"He'll be fine.." I told her half heartedly.

"How do you know?" She whispered, a few tears leaking out of her eyes.

"Shhh..." I cooed and put my arms around her. "I know because he is a brave boy and he has warrior blood. Your father will look after him. He'll be okay."

"I hope so.." she said and laid her head on my shoulder, hugging my waist.

I placed my cheek on her head and watched as she calmed down.

"Thank you, Oli." She whispered, and soon her breathe slowed down and she fell into a deep slumber.

I, on the other hand was robbed off any sort of sleep.

I kept wondering if Chance was okay.

He must have gone too. But he himself was just 18. Will he fight? Has he trained enough?

What if ... What if he gets hurt?

The thought along sent a jolt of pain in my body and I buried my fair in Katherine's hair, trying to calm myself by the scent of childhood best friend.

I hope not.
