《The baby swap》Chapter 26: The real side of Alexander

A loud knock on my door drew me out of dream land. I groaned, opening my eyes.
Soon the door opened.
"Your breakfast is ready ma'am," One maid said peaking her head in.
"I'll be down in a few minutes," I said sitting up straight.
"There is no need ma'am, we'll have it brought to you." She said.
She clapped her hands together then opened the door wider.
Soon after, about six maids walked in, all holding trays of food.
"Oh," I muttered, stunned by the amount of food they were bringing in.
They sat out a bed tray on my lap and brought in a table and placed the food on it. There was a bow of fruit salad, a plate with toast bacon and eggs with mushrooms on the side, a jar with orange juice, another with milk. Some baked cookies were on the side along with some yogurt.
"I don't think I'll be able to eat all that," I said as they continued setting the food.
I took the bow of the fruit salad and started eating that.
"I'll have your bath prepared ma'am, sir said to remind you of your appointment in an hour, he'll be waiting for you downstairs," The maid said.
"Thank you," I said in between bites.
She opened the curtains, allowing the sun to stream in and giving a view of the mountains.
I remembered her name was Mara, I was introduced to her yesterday.
She left the room and went into the bathroom.
With everyone gone, the room was now silent. I could only hear the sound of the running water in the bathroom and the sound of crushing waves from a distance.
"I hope you comfortable," JoJo said walking in.
"Every," I answered as I continued eating.
"I wasn't sure what to make you for breakfast so I had them make all that," She said.
"You didn't have to make all this," I insisted.
"I had to, this baby means so much to all of us, a lot of people actually. I can't wait till he is here," She said.
"Who is us?" I asked with a fork full of strawberries.
She seemed to be talking about a lot more people than Alex and herself.
"You know, his godfather." She mumbled.
I looked at her with my eyebrow raised.
"Ahem," Alexandra cleared his throat.
We all turned to look at him.
"I see you getting the five-star treatment," He said walking in.
"Good morning to you too," JoJo said sarcastically.
"Morning," He said to the two of us. "How come I never get breakfast in bed?"
"Because you too rich to have breakfast like normal people to," JoJo retorted.
He sat beside me on the bed, took a spoon and started eating the yogurt.
"You should leave the poor girl to eat in peace." JoJo said shooing him away.
"Wow. Just like that you switching sides. I thought you were my ride or die?" Alex said with a hurt expression.
"You just love to be the center of attention." JoJo commented.
JoJo and Alex left my room shortly, both having things to do.
I ate the rest of my food in silence, enjoying the morning sun shine.
After breakfast someone else came and cleared the plates, I then went into the bathroom were my hot bath was waiting for me.
"My appointment is at ten," I thought to myself, I could at least spent half an hour in the tub, it was only a few minutes past eight.

After my bath, I wrapped myself into a towel and returned to the bedroom happily humming.
I opened the cupboard and started searching through the few cloths I brought with me.
A took out a few dresses trying to see which one looked best.
"The red looks good on you," A voice said.
My mind panicked as I looked for the source of the voice.
I turned around to see Alexander who seemed happily relaxed on the bed.
I embraced myself holding the towel closer to me, suddenly feeling exposed.
"What are you doing here you pervert!" I yelled.
His eyes roamed all over me as I continued to panic.
"You were taking too long, I would have gone into the bathroom but only God knows the scene you would have created." He said.
I stepped back into the cupboard then hid behind the cupboard door.
"Get out," I yelled peeking my head from the door.
"I promise to be really quiet, you won't even notice I'm here." He said making himself more comfortable.
"You pervert!" I yelled again.
I threw a dress at him from the cupboard.
"Fine," He said getting up. "I'll leave." he held his hands up.
So he did, I glare at him as he walked out. He winked at me before closing the door.
"Ass hat," I muttered to myself.
I looked at the dresses again. Yes, I did like the red one that he had suggested, for the first time we agreed on something. But just because he said it, I wasn't about to wear it.
I settled on the black one instead, heart-shaped with straps, it reached just about my knees. I paired the dress with sandals.
After that, I took my house keys and I went down stairs. I needed to allow the plumber in so they could fix the pipes.
I could hear sounds of laughter from a distance. I knew my way around upstairs but not downstairs, there were too many doors.
"He's in the living room," A maid said pointing to a door.
"Thank you," I said to her and followed her directions.
The living room like the rest of the house was no exception. It was beautiful with a large white couch and a few plants.
"You finally done," Alex said.
He seemed to have been reading.
"Lets go," He said walking past me.
"Can we stop by my apartment first, I have to open the door for the plumbers so they fix the leaking." I explained, following after him.
"I'll give the keys to my driver, I'll take care of everything." He said.
I handed him my keys which he handed to his driver.
I didn't think he'd have a driver because I've never seen him being driven before.
We got into one of his cars. We strapped our seat belts on then drove to the doctor.
The drive there was silent, I looked out the window avoiding all contact with Alex.
It took us about twenty-minutes to drive to the clinic.
The doctor had already been waiting for us when we arrived. Today we were redirected to his office.
He was sitting behind a large brown desk with a couple of unorganised folders on top of it. Next to him there was a large locker.
"Ms. Morgans and Mr. Forbes," The doctor said acknowledging us. "Please have a seat."
Alex and I both took a seat as we anxiously waited for him to speak.
I had mentally prepared myself for the worst, I had even googled breathing technics to help me manage my stress levels.

"So- Why are we here?" Alex asked crossing his leg over his knee.
"Like I said to Ms. Morgans over the phone. I was reviewing the scans and there was something I forgot to mention. " He said taking a long pause.
I bit my lip, anxiously waiting for the bad news.
"I don't know much about your person life style but you should take some prenatal vitamins. To prevent the baby from being born underweight and other problems that could follow." He explained.
Alex and I both looked at him confused. We were waiting for some devastating news like the baby might have some genetic illness or there is a chance I might have a miscarriage. I didn't expect a talk about vitamin suppliements.
Dr. Edwin reached his hand out for a bottom drawer and took out three containers.
"I took the libarty of getting some suppliements for you myself, these are highly recogmended." He said handing the containers over to me. "It's also important to have some exercise and make sure you eating the right food, I could recommend a few birthing classes you should join." He continued.
I excepted the containers from him, still a bit in shock.
"So nothing is wrong with the baby?" I asked.
"Nothing at all, as long as you keep health its all okay. You are even free to work, I don't see any possible complications." He said.
A smile grow on my face.
I looked over at Alex who looked like he was still trying to process everything.
"Thank you doctor," I said.
"You welcome, I'm sorry for the miscommunication, I didn't mean to scare you." He said.
He continued making a few suggestions to type of exercises I should try and even book recommendation to prep me for motherhood.
Shortly after, the meeting was over.
Alex and the doctor shook hands before walking us out.
Alex some how seemed cold and distant about the whole situation, I couldn't read him. He should have been happier that our baby was alright, I didn't know why he was being so moody.
He put his sunglasses on as we walked to the car.
I sighed with relief with my hand rubbing my belly, happy that my baby was doing alright.
Alex took his phone out and dialed a number.
"Rosie," He said speaking into the phone. "Can you please get a new doctor for Zoe please, one who is more functional." He said.
I looked at him confused wondering what he was going on about.
"Yes," He continued. "And preferably a woman. Thanks," He said before hanging up the phone.
"Who is Rosie and why am I getting a new doctor?" I asked.
He was back to being bossy Alex, one who makes decisions regarding me without consulting me first.
"She's my assistant. You getting a new doctor because this one is useless." He answered.
We finally reached the car.
"The currents doctor seemed fine to me," I answered standing beside the car.
"Do you think its right off him to scare you like that? What if you had fainted and something had happened to the baby? He's clearly negligible. He shouldn't have spoken to you like that," He said defensive.
"First of all, I'm more than mature enough to listen to any news that he has for me. Second of all, had you answered his phone call, he would have talked to you and not me," I snapped.
He took a deep breath as he tried to hold back his anger. He opened the back seat car door.
"You right, now please just get in. My driver will take you home." He said in a more calm took. He gestured for me to get in.
"Where will you be going?" I asked.
"I'm going to work." Another one of my drivers brought my car here." He said pointing to a McLaren opposite us.
"Oh," I muttered.
"Ferraris are overrated." He smirked. "You should get home, get some rest. I'll see tonight, when I get there." He said.
"I don't think I'll still be there by then." I muttered.
"Why? Do you plan on going somewhere?" He asked.
"Yes, I told you I was only staying at your place for a night. I'm sure I'll be able to find somewhere to stay while my apartment gets fixed up." I explained.
"You can stay at my place as long as you want, there is plenty of space for the two of us. I don't mind, JoJo really likes having you around, you could keep each other company."
It sounded like a great offer. He has an amazing house, it's close to the beach and unlike mine it also has a pool. I'd also have other people to talk to and not just sit around and watch TV. But on the other hand, I'm not too sure I wanted to see his face everyday.
"Come on," He said pouting. "I'll knock the next time I go to your room." He insisted.
He looked like a three year old child asking for candy. He could be so adorable and annoying at the same time.
"I think it would be better if we had more space between us, that way we don't have any unintended fights." I insisted.
We had made a deal to make a effort for things to be better between us but there was still some unresolved conflict. Some relationships just work better from a distance.
"Come on, I thought we were good now. I have to work any ways, you'll only see me in the evenings, that is if you too." He insisted.
I took a minute to process everything.
"Did anyone ever tell you that you would be a great sales assistant." I said.
"Too bad I'm already rich right?" He joked. "Does that mean you staying?"
I placed my fore finger on my chin.
"Fine," I said letting out a sigh. "But I'm leaving as soon as the pipes gets fixed." I insisted.
"Deal?" He said holding out his hand for me to shake.
"Deal," I agreed shaking his hand.
"When I get home we can look for things for the baby together, that way we'll be more prepared." He suggested.
"That would be nice," I said.
Although the thought of being pregnant had finally registered, what it meant to have a baby had not. I hadn't gotten anything for the baby yet, I was too busy stressing on how most of my cloths no longer fits.
I gave him a small as I entered the car.
He waved me goodbye before closing the door.
I buckled my seat belt as the driver drove me back to his penthouse.
The drive back seemed longer and silent. The driver wore black sunglasses with a very serious expression.
Once I got back, I greeted JoJo who was very occupied with managing everyone in the kitchen. With Alex gone, the house felt a little lonely.
I decided to make the best of the situation since Alex wasn't here and nobody else would notice. I wanted to do some digging and visit Alexandra's room. He seemed to private about it, like he was hiding something.
I tip-toed up stairs not wanting anyone to notice.
I walked through corridor, with a grin on my face.
I opened his door.
His room wasn't like I had expected. It wasn't dark like the blood sucking vampire I thought he was. It had a queen sized bed, with night stands on the side. The flat screen TV was even bigger than the one in my room. Unlike the mountainous view my borrowed room gave, his gave a clear perfect view of the ocean. He had a balcony with a coffee table and chairs. It was my dream room.
I walked in, touching the silky bed sheets.
On the further night stands, I noticed a picture frame.
As I got closer, I realized it was one of the pictures from the ultrasound.
I picked up the picture frame, taking a closer look.
It was in the condition I had given it to him in, it was a little bit wrinkled in the corner, maybe because I throw it to him.
Maybe he did really care about his child after all, he wasn't as heartless and selfish as I thought.
"Ma'am," I heard someone clearing their throat.
I looked up with my heart still racing. I had just been caught snooping.
"Sir doesn't like having people in his room. You should probably leave." She warmed.
"Sure," I said putting the picture frame down.
She opened the door wider, waiting for me to leave.
I left the room awkwardly, I felt her gaze on me.
I returned down stairs to help JoJo prepare some vegetables.
We mostly talked about her and how she worked for Alexander's parents and even took care of him as a baby. She was very welcoming and eager to answer all my questions. I finally had something to do either than watching TV the whole day or feeling sorry for myself.
By the time Alex arrived, JoJo and I had already ate. We were still sitting in the dining room when he walked into the room.
"You home early," JoJo commented.
"Good evening," He said instead.
He looked messy and tired. The three top button on his shirt were opened with his hair even more messy than usual. I didn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what he had been up to.
He walked to the table and started dishing some food for himself.
"I'm a little tied, I'll eat then shower. We can look at the baby things later Zoe," He said, his voice sounded worn-out.
I looked at my wrist watch to see that it was already nine p.m.
JoJo couched as Alex stepped closer to her. "Why do you smell like so much perfume." She said in between coughs.
"Well.." Alex started. "I've decided to invest in a different industry. I was inspecting some of the perfume this company had. I didn't like it so I decided not to invest instead." He answered.
"What explains why your hair is such a mess," JoJo mocked.
I let out a chuckle. It's not like none of didn't know he was a man-whore, he could have been honest instead.
"You two have no idea of the night I just had," He said in between glares.
He left the room with a plate full and went upstairs.
I helped JoJo clean up the table and went to my room.
By ten PM, I was convinced that Alex had forgotten that he said that we'd look at some baby things and went to sleep instead.
I had already wore my pajamas and tucked myself into bed when I heard a knock on my door.
The door opened as Alexander's face pooped in.
"I hope I'm not too late," He said stepping in.
I sat up straight and switched the lamp on.
"I brought some pizza," He said gesturing to the box in his one hand. He also had his iPad.
He could sit on the small couch will I sat on the bed.
I was shocked when he slipped into bed next to me.
"What are you doing?" I asked as he settled himself next to me.
"Sitting next to you," He answered.
"You could have sat on the couch," I said defensive.
He opened and placed the pizza box on my lap, ignoring me.
"Should we start now," He said as I sat their uncomfortably.
"Fine," I said letting out a sigh.
Alex switched on his iPad and took a slice of pizza.
"You got a list of what we would need, you can add on to the list if you want." He said handing me his iPad.
Most of the things on the list were: baby cloths, cot beds, diapers, bottles and the likes.
"Why is there two things of everything?" I asked.
"Unless you plan on staying with me, we could probably get things for the baby at your place too." He reasoned.
I'm glad his finally being considerate and finally realizing he isn't going to be the only parent.
"New house," I read out from the list.
"This house is highly dangerous for a baby, I need one without stairs." He answered.
I shock my head at him as I handed him his iPad back.
He went on some online store
"What idiot buys a pacifier for two hundred dollars?" I asked looking at the prices.
"The kind who can afford it," He answered sarcastically.
Because I had commented on how expensive it was, he purposely ordered it.
For about an hour, Alex and I wouldn't stop arguing about how ridiculous the prices were and what would be better fit for the baby.
"What's wrong with this one?" I asked looking at the tinny baby sweaters on his screen.
"It's cheap," he answered. "Everyone knows never to trust cheap things, it has that price for a reason."
Eventually, I stopped arguing about prices with him. I realized for him being rich wasn't a privilege, it was a right. It was like he was playing a game of how fast he can spent all his money.
