《The baby swap》Chapter 15: Baby agreements (part 1)

Zoe's POV

Alex decided that he'd come over to my apartment to talk, his assistant sent me the message. Apparently he was too busy to talk to me himself.

I'm counting on tonight. I need to set a few rules straight with Alex. His days of being Mr Control freak were over.

To avoid any miscommunications, we've decided to have our lawyers present.

I figured a contract is the only thing that could keep him away, being a business man with a lot more to lose he'd probably obey the contract. My days of being his push over were over, this time I had the ball in my court.

I asked Fredrick to be my representative. He's my dad's lawyer and also a family friend. He has agreed to keep this discrete, not even my dad will know.

Before my meeting with Alex, I needed to get my head straight and some fresh air.

If this meeting goes well, all my problems would be solved. We could came to an agreement about the baby and maybe even the rental of the building to my cafe if he's feeling generous. Most importantly, he'd finally back off.

I bent and tied the shoelaces to my sneakers.

I planned on going for a walk then get something to eat.

There were a few local restaurants I hadn't tried, only two blocks away.

I opened the zipper to the pocket of my running pants and placed some money in it, I then closed the zipper.

I was dressed in my gym attire, maybe I'd take a jog to the restaurants (although I'm most likely to find a reason to avoid jogging).

I took my house keys off the hook on my way out then locked my front door.

I went down the elevator, out of the front gate and into the street.

I speed walked, my ponytail swinging behind me.

I breathed in the fresh air, my body relaxing.

I walked past another block then turned into another street on my left into a street full of restaurants and pubs.

I walked past a few few restaurants deciding on which one to try. I usually judged restaurants based on there appearance and sometimes even ratings, but then again I loved food from food trucks.

I finally stopped in front of a restaurant named D'Aria. It had a modern glimpse to it. There were a couple tables on it's porch and a well decorated garden filled with roses in the front of the building. A water fountain was situated in the center of the garden. The walls of the building were all made of glass giving a glimpse of the wooden tables inside the restaurant.

The restaurant most definitely served as an inspiration to remodel my cafe.

I walked into the restaurant, welcomed by the smell of strong coffee. Too bad I won't be drinking coffee in the next eight or so months.

I took a seat in a corner table.

I ran my hand across the menu, (even the quality of the paper felt great against my skin). I opened the menu deciding on what to eat.

I was craving waffles but I could always make those at home. I wanted to try something new.

The pork belly banh mi caught my attention. I hadn't tried it before, plus it looked delicious in the picture.

"Can I help you ma'am?" A waitress asked. She was dressed in all black with an apron that read D'Aria in big bold letters. She also had a name tag on her shirt with the name Tracee written on it.

"Can I get the pork belly banh mi please, medium." I answered pointing at the picture in the menu.

"Anything else?" She asked scraping something in her note pad.

"Water please, with lemon on the side." I instructed.

She let out a small smile before walking away to take my order.

I suddenly had the arge to urinate, my bladder was already getting the best of me.

A noticed a toilet sign on a door in a far corner, opposite me.

It was best I ate with a empty bladder.

I pushed my chair back as it scraped against the floor. Sudden, the chair stopped, seemingly being blocked by something. I struggled pushing it back.

"Aww," a voice said in a whimper followd by a gush of liquid pouring down my face.

My cheeks reddened in anger as I turned to see what had happened.

A tall man stood behind me with a spilled coffee in his hand. Some had spilled on his shirt but most on the floor.

I must have tripped on him with the chair.

The anger soon turned into embarrassment.

I finally looked up at his mesmerising features. He had dirty blonde hair that looked messy with a few strands in his face. His most distinguished features were his sharp jaw line and pale blue eyes that complemented his features.

He was completely drool worthy. Sure, he wasn't as handsome as Alex but you could easily drown into his eyes.

Alex! Just the thought of him makes my blood boil.

"I'm so sorry," I said snapping out of my hypnosis.

"It's okay," he said throwing his hand dismissive. "I didn't see you there either," he said letting out a chuckle.

He backed away taking steps back.

I pushed the chair further back and stood up.

I wiped my face with the back of my hand.

"I should at least buy you another coffee," I said letting out a small smile.

If I wasn't already pregnant, I would have asked him to be the father of my children that instant.

"No, there is no need." He chuckled again.

With that, he walked away wiping his shirt with tissues.

I watched until he was out of the building.

It seemed like I had a bad habit of tripping into people.

I walked to the direction of the bathroom. I needed to clean my self up. At least I was wearing dark colors. I smelt the coffee on me realizing it was hot chocolate, just not hot.

I pushed the door open into the womens' bathroom.

I rolled paper towels out of the paper dispenser.

I rinsed my face then wiped it along with the hot chocolate stains that were close to invisible.

Once I had cleaned myself up, I used the toilet then washed my hands on my way out.

The hot chocolate spill was gone when I returned to my table.

My stomach grumbled unhappily as I wait for my food.

Soon after, the waitress came with my food.

I dag in, not caring about how I looked chewing so quickly. It tasted better than it looked on the menu.

Once I was done eating, I took sips of my water.

My niece Sofia came into mind. She and her mother didn't live too far from here. I haven't seen my niece in awhile.

Once I had paid the bill and left a tip, I stood up and left.

I walked down the street, passing by a kids park. I smiled watching three little children in the sand pit, throw sand at each other.

I continued walking.

After making a few turns, I finally arrived at Sarah's house.

Their small gate had been left slightly opened.

I walked into their yard and up the porch. I know it's rude showing up unannounced but I didn't have my phone on me.

I knocked on the door.

"Sarah!" I yelled out.

But no answer. I continued knocking on their door but not yelling. Most of the people who lived in this neighborhood were elderly people.

They must have been out, Sarah usually worked from home that's why I assumed she would be home.

I finally gave up after fifteen minutes (I think) of knocking.

I walked down the porch and out of the I yard.

Just as I was closing the gate I heard a yell.

I turned to see the neighbor at his gate. He looked like he was struggling with it.

I pushed the latch in, closing Sarah's gate.

Wait, I know that face! My mind suddenly registered.

I looked at him again.

It was the same guy I bumped into earlier.

He was now dressed differently, wearing all black, with black jeans and a matching black jacket zipped open revealing his Kevin Klein shirt.

I quickly looked away with my head bowed, I didn't want him to think I was following him or something. I still felt bad about spilling his coffee.

I'd just wait until he left.

"Hi," he yelled over to me.

Too late, he saw me.

I raised my head slowly to face him, I tried to master the best look of shook I could make.

He was still standing at the gate, he now had his back against the gate.

"Hi," I yelled over to him forcing a smile. "Are you having trouble opening that?" I asked pointing to his gate.

"Uhh---- Closing it actually." He answered scratching the back of his head.

His hair was now neatly brushed.

I walked over to him. Maybe I could help him. I learned a few technical skills in highschool from all the stupid projects my highschool required me to do.

He backed away from the gate.

I pulled the gate towards me, realising it was already closed.

"Its locked?" I said puzzled.

"Yes, I just locked it now." He answered.

"Do you live here?" I asked looking at the white painted double story house behind me.

"Yes, I just moved in." He answered. "Do you live around here?" He asked.

"No," I answered. " I was taking a walk when I thought of visiting my niece. But, no one is home." I continued.

"Funny thing, I was about to take a walk myself. Maybe we could go to a cafe or something." He said.

He smiled revealing his dimples.

As cute as he was, I couldn't. We had just met, I knew nothing about him. In a few months my pregnancy would start showing, I don't think he'd want to be around that.

"Sorry but I'll have to decline. I've been walking for a while now, I'd like to go home and rest." I said.

I faked a yawn pretending to be tired.

"Come on, you do owe me a coffee," he insisted.

My mistake was looking into his eyes. With one look he lured me in.

"Where is your sense of adventure," I voice whispered in my head.

I had nothing important to do at home anyways. So why not?

"Fine," I said letting out a sigh. "But only for an hour." I insisted.

"Deal," he said with a victorious smirk.

I led the way to a nearby cafe. He ordered a latte while I had orange juice.

He thought it was weird I was having juice. My excuse was that I was recently recovering from a coffee addiction, not mentioning that I was pregnant.

We spoke mostly about him. He an accountant and a freelancer. He worked mostly for small companies.

Apparently he was recovering from a ten year relationship, his fiance had just resently left him. Apparently she was his only love.

The one hour that we had agreed on turned into three, we ended up having lunch as well.

I felt a connection with him, like we could be friends.

It seemed like every important event in my life began as an accident.

I tripped on Alex the first time we met.

They inseminated me with Alex's sperm and now Ipushed my chair against Rafael causing him to spill his coffee. I wonder what's the next accident going to be?

"Thanks for walking me home," I said as we stepped in front of my gate. He had walked me back to my apartment from a restaurant.

"I had a great time today," I hope I can see you again." He said tucking my hair behind my ear.

"I had a great time too," I whispered under my breath.

He nodded letting out a smile.

"Bye," he said.

I watched as he faded down the road.

That's when I realized, I didn't give him my number and he didn't have mine.
