《The baby swap》Chapter 13: Alex the control freak

Zoe's POV

"How did you get in here?" I asked stunned by his presence.

He had his leg crossed over his knee, holding a glass of whiskey in his hand.

Where did he even get that?

"I have my ways," he answered nonchalant, taking a sip of his whiskey.

I thought this nightmare with Alex was finally over. I thought he had disappeared from our lives.

"We didn't finish talking the last time," he said.

I was still trying to figure out how I should react. Should I be angry and kick him out or should I be worried that he has access to my house.

It didn't look like anyone broke in, the lock was perfectly fine.

If I didn't deal with him now, he'd just keep coming back.

"Please sit," he said tapping on the spot beside him. I should be the one giving him permission to sit.

I sat down on the couch opposite him glaring at him.

"Where did you get the whiskey!" I asked. I could smell the whiskey from his glass.

"I brought it from home," he answered.

He placed his glass on the table.

"We need to talk about the future of our child and how we are going to handle things until you give birth." He said.

Something told me whatever plans he had, I wasn't included in the future.

"Yes," I agreed. "I need you to stop popping around everywhere, you becoming a nuisanant." I said.

"Fine," he agreed. "But I will occasionally check up on you and attend all necessary check-ups," he said.

At least we were getting somewhere, I didn't know he could be civilized.

"That sounds fair," I answered.

"I need you to stop working, I need you to only focus on my baby." He said.

Just when I thought we were getting somewhere.

Lately I haven't been at work as often but, that doesn't mean I'll stop going to work completely.

"I can't just stop working, it's my source of income." I said.

"I'll pay for everything, plus you'd be getting a nice bonus when the baby is born." He said.

There he was again, throwing money at his every problem hoping it would go away.

I still don't believe that he owns an entire airline. It's just too credulous.

"And what will happen to my cafe? And my employees, you can't ask me to do that." I snapped.

"You are lucky I'm allowing you to stay in that building for the next three months." He said.

My guess was correct. I shouldn't have been shocked after our last encounter. He wanted to make sure everyone was under his control.

"Why are you so controlling? Can't you just let me be? It's not like I wanted this," I said.

I needed to calm down or I was going to get sick again. I couldn't calm down with Alex around.

"Nor did I, but I'm going to make sure no harm ever comes near my child." He continued.

It was clear we would never agree on anything. Everytime we met, I ended up adding problems to my list. We should probably ask someone to help us come to an agreement.

"I think you should just leave now," I said.

"But we're not done speaking, we need to come to an agreement. I'm not leaving until this discussion is over." He insisted.

"I don't want to talk to you anymore, I need you to get out of my house." I snapped.

I got up from the couch. I needed to lay down and get some rest.

"If you're not gone by the time I come back, I'm going to call the police." I said.

I walked out of the room to my bedroom. I noticed he was still staring at me undecided.

I laid down on my bed for a nap. I looked at my clock to see it was quarter past one.

I just hope that my 'problem' would have disappeared by the time I wake up.

I don't usually sleep in the afternoons but today, I easily fell asleep.

I woke up hours later.

I was tossing and turning, trying to fall asleep again even though I had already slept for three hours.

I listened, laying on my bed for any signs of Alex. My bedroom door was slightly opened, Alex was probably tired of waiting and left by now.

Usually I had a snack or something every two hours or so, but I wasn't any bit hungry.

I was going to watch a movie.

I got up slowly for my bed. I fixed my hair, tucking it behind my ear.

I dragged my feet into my sitting room, feeling a bit physically tired.

I was surprised to see a sleeping Alex on my couch. He looked well rested with his shoes still on.

Couldn't he just get a hint? I told him I didn't want to see him.

I sighed in frustration.

I walked to my kitchen and filled a glass of water.

When I returned, he was still asleep letting out loud snores. Too bad he looked so peaceful.

I threw the water in his face, waking him up.

"What was that for!" He yelled in frustration, half-asleep.

I warned him.

"I told you I wanted you out of my house!" I snapped.

He wiped his face with the back of hand, sitting up straight.

"I told you I wasn't leaving until we finished our discussion," he argued.

"If you don't leave now, I'm going to call the police." I threatened.

"I dare you to," he said letting out a devilish smirk.

He must have thought I was joking. First, he had the nerves to break into my house and now, this.

I waited for him to leave for a couple of seconds with my arms folded.

He just continued staring at me in a challenging manner.

"That was your last chance," I said.

I walked back to my room to get my phone. I dialled the number walking back into the living room.

"9-1-1 what's your emergency?" A feminate, calm voice answered.

"Someone just broke into my house. Now he is refusing to leave." I answered. I tried to sound as alarmed as I could.

While I spoke to the police officer, not once did the smirk on Alex's face disappear.

I gave the officer my address including the number to my apartment.

Alex probably thought I was joking. At least with him in jail, I would be able to cross out a few problems off of my list.

The police managed to arrive fifteen minutes later.

Alex and I exchanged looks while waiting for the police in silence.

I opened the door for three police officers. Two male and a female.

"He is in my sitting room," I said to the officers. I sounded emotional, I don't even know if I was faking it anymore.

I closed the door behind them after they had entered.

I lead the way to the living room.

Alex was calmly waiting, still sitting on my couch.

"There he is," I said pointing at Alex.

The police officers stood silent as if they were examining the situation.

Why weren'tn't they doing anything?

"Mr Forbes," the one finally spoke.

He removed his peaked cap as if to show a sign of respect.

"It's an honour sir," he continued.

Instead of arresting him, I felt like I had just arranged a reunion.

"You should be arresting him," I snapped at the police officers.

Alex let out a laugh.

"I'm sure Mr Forbes here isn't causing any problems," the other male officer said dismissive.

I couldn't believe this, what was going on here?

"My son looks up to you sir, he wants to be just like you." The female officer finally spoke.

I thought women were supposed to be more rational.

"He wants to become a pilot and drive one of your aeroplanes," she continued.

So Alex really owned a airline, that explained a lot.

I guess I underestimated how powerful Alex was. He had everyone in his control. But he sure wasn't going to control me.

"Your son should give me a call, I could give him a private tour of our best planes." Alex answered.

"That would be lovely sir," she answered.

If I didn't know any better I'd have thought I saw her cheeks blush. But then again I was stupid enough not to at least Google the guy after I found out he was my baby's father.

"I think we should go now, we don't want to continue disturbing you sir." The one male officer said.

Alex let out a small smile.

"Bye Sir," the female officer said flirtatiously while turning away to leave.

"I would be sure to put in a good word about the three of you to your boss," Alex said after them.

I was still standing there speechless.

I heard the sound of my front door closing.

"How did you do that?" I asked. I was still stunned by everything that had happened.

"I like to generously donate to the police department once in a while," he answered. "You don't have to make this anymore difficult, I have more connections than you know." He continued.

He got up from the couch.

"This would be the last time I ask you, I need you to stop working. Or else I'll have to make sure you never get a single customer ever again." He warned.

I glared daggers into his chest. He patted my back before walking out of my house.

He is even more controlling than I thought.

I heard my front door closing.

I'm going to make sure he never gets his way, even if it's the last thing I do.
