《The baby swap》Chapter 7: Insemination

Zoe's POV
*Two weeks later*
I woke up with a huge grin on my face. Today was the day of my insemination.
It has been two weeks since I first walked into Dr Fell's office. She has been extremely helpful and she has also taken me through every step of the way.
I've had to go through a few examinations and everything came back clean. I can have my baby. However, they have emphasized that frozen sperm is not as effective so there is a chance that it might not work. However, I'm determined to be positive.
I had already taken a shower. I was sitting on my kitchen counter eating a bowl of fruits. I was going to start on a healthy note.
I haven't spoken to my mom ever since our argument, but dad has been very supportive.
Reina and Abby would have loved to accompany me but they both had work, their bosses were too uptight.
Once finished eating, I placed my bowl into the sink then rinced it.
My appointment was at ten. It was now nine a.m. I needed to get going.
I took my prepacked bag along with my keys. As I closed my front door, I felt like I was closing a chapter of my life.
My life would be ever changed after this appointment.
I locked my front door and placed the keys into my bag.
I took my time walking to the elevator.
"Morning child," Mrs Thompson greeted me as I walked into the elevator.
"Morning," I replied.
Mrs Thompson was a elderly woman in her mid sixties. She was also the gosip here. People didn't interact much with each other here but Mrs Thompson always found a way to know everything.
When Gerald and I broke up, I ended up hearing about it by the security guards.
"Have you heard about Alison? The one who lives in 31D," she said.
I shook my head no.
I've never been a gossip nor was I interested in being one. I couldn't think of a way to shut her up without hearing about it later.
"The poor thing is staying with her boyfriend now. She does and pays for everything, all the man does is sit around watching TV. She isn't even married to the man." She spoke.
Luckily, the elevator doors opened to my floor before I could engage into her gossip.
"Bye Mrs Thompson," I said waving her away.
Before, I used to reply and engage in her gossip, until I learned how two faces she was.
I was on the ground floor.
I walked to my car.
I placed my bag into my back seat before walking to the front.
I had a smile on through the whole drive, not for a second did I frown. Not even when some guy cut me in traffic.
After a couple minutes I arrived. I parked my car outside the clinic.
I was a bit early with about twenty minutes to spare.

Dr Fell had told me I'd have to wait in the waiting room until they call my name. After that, they'd inseminate me.
I walked in to the clinic greeting a few nurses on the way. I was familiar with most of them and was already on a first name basis with a few of them from my appointments.
I turned to walk into the waiting room.
"If it isn't Ms clumsy," A voice said as I walked into the room.
I immediately recognized that voice.
Of all places, I didn't expect to see him here.
It was the ride guy from the club, Alex. I remembered his name because I had added it to a list of names never to name my children after his rude behavior. I had high hopes for the name until I met him.
Besides, I was never a forgetful drunk.
My smile dropped as I walked towards him. I looked around the room to see the benche he was sitting on was the only available one.
I rolled my eyes as I sat next to him.
"You again," I said. I took a deep breath trying to calm my nerves.
This morning I was determined nothing could ever put me in a bad mood, but that was until I met him.
"You still owe me three hundred dollars," he said in a mocking tone.
"And I said I'd pay you back!" I yelled.
I was actually hoping I'd never see him again.
Everyone turned their attention towards us.
I quickly took a magazine from the stake on the small table beside me. I covered half of my face pretending to be reading.
"So what brings you here?" He asked.
I choose to ignore him and continued 'reading' the magazine.
"Where is your boyfriend? I don't see a ring on your finger," he continued.
"There is no boyfriend," I snapped. I moved the magazine away from my face. "Look Alex, I'd appreciate it if you left me alone," I continued.
"So you remember my name," he said with a smirk. "I'm unforgettable," he muttered to himself.
Conceited much!
I rolled my eyes turning away from him.
"Are you having the baby alone," he mocked
"It's not like I need to have a guy to have a baby," I said.
"Technical you do, don't tell me you believe that whole stocks bringing babies story." He continued.
I looked around to see there still wasn't any other available spot. He was already getting on my last nerves.
"I completely respect women and the whole we can have babies on our own thing but it's honestly sad." He mocked. "Let's just hope whoever's sperm you taking isn't some clumsy crazy guy, imagine that combination with your genetics." He continued.
"What are you doing here anyways?" I asked.
"My wife and I are finally ready to have a child," he said. He gestured to the blonde beside him. "With a dad and a mom," he continued.

What an unlucky woman.
"Does she know you a walking night stand," I mocked. This time it was my turn to smirk.
"Zoe Morgans," the nurse called out my name.
"That's me," I said jumping up from my seat in excitement.
At least I'd finally be rid of this conversation.
"And Mrs Zahra Morgans," the nurse read out another name.
Alex along with his wife stood up. If she really was a Mrs and a Morgans, that meant that Alex and I shared a common last name.
"Please come with me," the nurse said.
The nurse led the way.
Alex and his wife followed behind.
The nurse first took them to their room then me to mine, I was right next door to them.
"You can sit on the bed while you wait for the doctor," the nurse said.
I nodded then walked to the bed.
She then walked out of the room.
I sat on the bed waiting for the doctor.
He walked in minutes later. He was a middle aged man with the usual cliche reading glasses and a white lab coat over his clothes. He was holding a bunch of papers in his hands.
"You must be Mrs Morgans," the doctor said.
"Ms Morgans," I corrected.
He readjusted his glasses, his eyes fixed on the papers.
"Oh," he muttered under his breath. "There must be a mistake on these papers," he said.
"Are you ready for the insemination?" He asked.
I nodded my head yes.
I couldn't have been more prepared.
"Please lay down on the bed," he said.

The insemination didn't take as long as I expected.
Thirty-five minutes later, I was walking out of the clinic with a smile planted on my face.
I had finally done this, after weeks of preparation. I still had a balance to pay.
In about nine months, I'd be able to hold my dirty blonde hair possibly green eyes baby in my arms.
First, I needed to go home and shower before going to my cafe to sort some things out. I've hardly been there in the last three weeks.
I got into my car in the parking lot.
With my peripheral vision, I noticed Alex and his wife walking out of the building.
"You still owe me," Alex yelled after me.
I slammed my car door in anger. It's not like I walked around with three hundred dollars in my purse, if I did I'd pay him back.
"Take deep breaths Zoe," I repeated to myself.
Stressing wasn't good for me. It would lessen my chances of getting pregnant.
I turned my keys and drove away.
After finally getting through traffic, I arrived home.
I dropped my bag in the hall way rushing to my bathroom.
As I removed my clothes to shower, the sound of my door bell echoed through the house.
I slipped my bathrobe on before tending to the door.
It was 12 o'clock. Why would anyone come here. Usually when people wanted to see me at this time, they'd go to my cafe.
I opened the door curious.
My mom's face popped up.
"Mom?" I said.
What was she doing here? As far as I'm concerned she still wasn't talking to me.
"Why are you in your bath robe?" She asked.
I stood still holding the door hostage tightly in my grip blocking her from getting in.
"I was about to shower," I answered.
We both stood at the door awkwardly quite.
"Can I come in?" She asked.
I released the door from my grip.
She walked in taking peaks of the house.
"I went to your Cafe. Samuel said you hadn't showed up to work today so I assumed you'd be here." She said.
She took a seat on my couch. She wore her usual black pencil skirt and blazer with a white shirt underneath. She always looked like she was working in an office even though she had never.
I took a seat on the far couch. Maybe this was another lecture or her last attempt to talk me out of insemination, which was too late.
The last time we spoke, we ended things badly." She started.
She always said that same line to make things better, especially when she didn't want to admit she was wrong.
"I should have tried to understand you," she continued.
I waited a bit in the silence. Maybe I was secretly hoping I'd hear 'I'm sorry,' at the end of the sentence. But it never happened. This was the best I was going to get.
"It's okay Mom," I said.
She walked over to my couch and sat beside me. She hesitated for a moment before putting her arm around me. She pulled me to her then slowly started tucking my hair.
"Why didn't you tell me you were lonely," she said.
This was what this was about? It was either this or be in another argument with her.
"I'd have found a nice boy to marry you, I know a few friends whose sons are looking to marry." She continued.
Who wants their parents picking out their spouses for them?
"I'm not lonely mom," I said. At least not anymore.
"It's okay, you don't have to say anything." She said.
She pulled me even closer to her.
I ended up not going to work that day. Mom and I decided to catch up on each other's lives. We talked about everything except for what was truly important. I didn't tell her I had the insemination. At least not until I'm sure it worked.
