《Boss and his Babygirl》Chapter 35: Game on

I hated seeing her like this, cold and blunt, but then it made me realise the impact of my words and actions. I turned her into this emotionless machine. I'm responsible for all the pain and hurt she endured. I should have been there for her during her sleepless nights holding her close and whispering sweet nothings. But instead I let her go and look at what she became.
My heart ached knowing that she wasn't mine. It hurt to know that she was going on a date with a man that wasn't me. I couldn't call her mine. No matter what I said or did, she wouldn't come back to me. But by god would I be persistent. In some way I was selfish. Selfish because I simply couldn't let her go. I would not let her go with another man, but I promised myself that I wouldn't be the same man I used to be. That cold, rude, arrogant side of me died the day I officially said goodbye to Lucy. She went to the grave along with all my hatred and pain.
I sat by her grave every single day talking to her, singing the same lullaby our mum used to sing to us and looking over photos I spent years taking. But every time I sat by her grave, I could only think of Rosie. I knew wherever Lucy was, she'd be cursing at me in 6 languages and swearing to take revenge for how bad I hurt Rosie.
"Dean, you gone yet?". Her melodic voice called out from the bathroom and for entertainment I chose to stay quiet fooling her into thinking I had gone. I clamped a hand over my mouth as she opened the door abruptly peering out but groaned in annoyance seeing me lying on her bed cuddling a cute dog cuddly toy with a bandage on my head.
I had been in her little flat for a while. I knew she wanted me out, but with the injury she had inflicted on me, she allowed me to stay a while.
"I told you to get lost. Jack's coming any minute now". Normally girls get excited over dates, but Rosie sounded anything but excited. She closed the door again and sighed loud enough for me to hear mumbling about boys being stupid.
Taking this as another opportunity, I jumped up and explored her drawers and wardrobe.
"Well what do you know" I whispered quietly smiling to myself as I held up my red hoodie that I originally gave to her, but then stole when she first left.
Glancing over at the closed bathroom door I gripped the hoodie tightly in my hands, my heart warming at the possibility that I may still have a chance of winning her back. Maybe she hasn't given up on me yet.
Suddenly the doorbell rung loudly. He was here.
"Crap!" Rosie shouted out from behind the bathroom door. I could hear her fumbling around, items falling onto the floor as she rushed around not wanting to be late for her date.
I walked over and leaned against her door waiting for her to step out. Crossing my arms against my chest, I smiled as I heard the bathroom door unlock and out she stepped.
My heart stopped. If angels were real, then she was what I imagined they looked like. I felt the oxygen leave my lungs as she stepped out tucking her hair behind her ear. I watched completely hypnotised as she picked up her little shoulder bag and walked shyly towards me. But what she didn't know was how much I wanted to kneel before her and beg her to stay with me. But I couldn't do that. I couldn't be selfish. If she left the date happy with Jack, then I'd be happy and let her go. Her happiness came before anything and everything.

Rosie stared at me, her cheeks reddening as I slowly walked towards her still silently mesmerised by her beauty.
"I-I need to go" she stuttered adorably.
"Wait, I just need to look at you for a moment longer".
Lifting my hand up, I softly stroked her rosy cheek. One touch eased my emotional pain, one look took my breath away. She had me under her spell but I'd gladly remain a voluntary prisoner.
"You're so beautiful Rosie".
Her innocent eyes flew up and met with my own. I could feel tears pricking the surface of my eyes threatening to pour out.
"D-Dean, I"-
"Go, you have a date waiting for you. And don't let those tears of yours ruin that beautiful makeup". Rosie's face fell to the floor and wiped her fingers gently across the tears I don't think she realised she was shedding. She then lifted her head up and smiled at me showing no evidence that she had been crying not even seconds ago.
"Please, lock the door after you leave. I don't want to find you here once I come back". And just like that, she pulled away from me and turned towards the door leaving me alone surrounded by her sweet scent.
"This isn't goodbye Rosie. I'm coming for you Jack".
*****************
"Wow! This restaurant is amazing Jack".
Jack pulled out a chair and gestured for me to sit down before tucking me in.
"I know. Had to bring you to nothing less than a 5 star restaurant". Jack sat down opposite me straightening his tie before passing me a menu. As I scanned my eyes over the menu I realised that everything was just so fancy, perhaps too fancy. Caviar? Mussels? I was a simple girl with simple tastes. At the end of the day it was about the person, not the date itself. You could take me to McDonald's and I'd be more than happy.
"Damn, Jack. Everything is so expensive on this menu".
"Don't worry about the price". He smiled reassuringly to me before looking back down at the menu. As much as the restaurant was beautiful, Jack looked handsome, and the atmosphere was peaceful, I couldn't help but stare outside thinking about Dean, wondering if he's truly gone.
"Hello my name is Mike and I'll be your waiter for this evening, can I start you off with some drin"-
"Yes, fetch us a bottle of your finest red wine. That'll be all". My mouth dropped as Jack waved the waiter off dismissively. What about me? I wanted to scold Jack on his attitude, but bit my tongue instead wondering if he had simply had a bad day or something.
"Hope you don't mind me ordering a bottle to share". Jack placed the menu down and lent back in his chair as if he was assessing me.
"No, of course not".
How dare you.
"Got to get the best for the most beautiful girl here". Jack lent forward and dragged his thumb along my cheek. He moved it in a circular motion the same way that Dean-
"Here is your bottle of wine. May I serve you some?". Thankfully the waiter came back in record time and Jack sulkily pulled away.
"Sure" Jack grumbled.
"That would be wonderful" I muttered respectfully reassuring the waiter that he was doing a grand job.
The waiter smiled back at me and began to fill my glass up with wine until nearly at the top. He then proceeded to pour wine into Jack's cup silently.
"Oh my goodness I'm so sorry".
"SHIT, my suit".
The waiter had accidentally knocked Jack's glass over with the bottle as he turned the other way. Not only was Jack's pristine white shirt was now stained red, but his face was red with anger. The waiter trembled under Jack's intense gaze and apologised frantically whilst cleaning up this mess.

"Do you have any idea how much this suit costs? More than you earn in a whole month that's for certain". What the hell.
"Hey, don't worry. It's okay". I grabbed a few tissues and helped to clean up the wine that was split all over the table. Jack was mumbling to himself that the waiter would most certainly would not get a tip.
"I'm terribly sorry, I, I'll bring you another bottle". The scared waiter bowed slightly before rushing off to the back.
"Jack, it was an accident, chill out". I hated this entitled attitude he was showing. I was not expecting this from Jack at all.
"But this is appalling. I expected better service from a 5 star restaurant. I'll be speaking to his manager". Jack threw on his jacket and picked up the menu again, his eyes roaming around deciding what to choose.
Truth be told this wasn't the most disastrous date I had been on, but I couldn't help but wonder what Dean was doing. Will he still be there once I got home? Is he staring at me outside through the window wishing it was him sat opposite me instead of Jack. Is he thinking about me like I am of him. Even though I was still livid at Dean for all he said and did, I couldn't help but think of the date we went on before everything turned upside down. He was so gentle, so respectful and kind.
He had so many flaws, but I couldn't get him out of my mind.
"Hello again, I'm so very sorry. Here is your bottle, but are you two ready to order or shall I give you some more time?".
The waiter's smile now looked more like a grimace as he came back to serve us but his eyes were mainly on me probably too anxious to make eye contact with Jack.
"I see you're back. Try not to spill anything else. But I'll have the steak, medium rare".
"Excellent and for you lovely lady?"
"I'll have the spaghetti carbonara with a side of garlic bread please". The waiter smiled at me and headed off to the kitchen to give our orders to the chefs.
"Strange, I thought that most women ate salads on first dates to give good impressions".
Deep breaths Rosie.
"You'd have to pay me to have a salad".
Jack tilted to his head with his eyebrows furrowed. Dean would've laughed, but he's not here.
"How was work today?" I asked nervously not wanting to hear anymore sexism.
"Fine, how was your day off?"
Oh my goodness, we are having a genuine conversation.
"Y-Yeah, it was good" I smiled still trying to hide the occasional sharp pains from the hangover.
Picking up my glass I brought it up to my lips and gulped down almost half the glass. I was in for one hell a night.
******************
"How's your food?".
Jack dropped his fork on his plate and lent back on his chair.
"When I asked for my steak medium rare, I expected it to be brought to me medium rare. This, is medium".
Oh sweet baby Jesus.
The poor waiter put on a fake smile and took Jack's plate away from him promising he would sort it out.
"Oh my gosh, Jack, what- are you here on a date? Are you serious?". A blonde haired sleazy looking girl stood beside our table staring at Jack angrily.
"The hell?". Jack stared at me baffled by the intrusion before looking back at the girl.
"You're on a date yet you texted me yesterday asking to hook up? Seriously girl, you deserve better than this jackass". The woman turned to me and smiled before taking off out of the restaurant.
"Are you actually serious Jack. Please tell me that this is not true". Jack reached over to me, but before he could touch me I swatted his hand away.
"Rosie, I don't know her. I swear nothing is going on, honestly". I didn't know what to believe, but then again why would a random girl accuse a random person of a random event. It made no sense. It had to be true.
"Stop Jack. I'm not going to be treated like this. I want to be with someone who only has eyes for me. So I'm sorry, but enjoy the rest of your date alone".
*****************
"Did it work?". The scantily dressed woman stepped out of the shadow and sauntered towards me with a huge smile on her face.
"Yes. She seems convinced and he does not look impressed. I'm sure that'll make her leave. And the money?" The woman held out her hand towards me, her foot tapping against the floor in anticipation.
"Here, like I promised. £100". Shoving the money into her hands, she smirked and blew me a kiss goodbye before stepping into a nearby car.
This better had worked. I was now down £200 as I had also paid the waiter to spill Jack's drink over him. I couldn't help but laugh like a mad man watching the show from outside the restaurant. But all through their date I couldn't take my eyes off Rosie. She looked exquisite and jack had no idea how lucky he was.
If after some miracle she wanted to be with Jack then I'd let her be. If she was truly happy being with him then I'd leave her forever and let her have her happily ever after. She of all people deserved nothing but happiness.
Sitting on a nearby bench with a single rose and box of 20 chicken nuggets I nervously waited for Rosie to come out. It could be ages before she came out, but I didn't care. But suddenly Rosie stood up abruptly from her chair and stormed out of the restaurant leaving Jack staring her way shocked and confused.
Ha, moron.
Rosie burst through the doors standing still on the doorstep staring up at the star lit sky probably wondering why is everything going wrong for her. As her eyes roamed through the dark night, they suddenly stopped on me. Her eyes widened but instantaneously softened as if her questions had just been answered.
"Hey! How did you date go?" I asked whilst she trudged towards me slowly.
"You were right. He was a stuck up jerk". She looked adorable with that little pout on her face. I wanted to squish her cheeks and hold her against my chest and never let go.
"I won't say I told you so, but I told you so".
Rosie wiped her tired eyes and let out a breathy laugh.
"Here, I got you something you might enjoy more than caviar and linguine". Bringing the box of chicken nuggets out from behind my back, her eyes widened and smiled.
"You've made my whole evening". Taking the box of nuggets out of my hand, she opened it up and ate one whole.
"Sorry if they're cold, I was waiting for you for a long time". Rosie's eyes flew up from the box and stared into mine.
"You were out here this whole time? Waiting for me?".
Placing down the rose, I walked up to my beautiful angel and stroked her cheek softly. Her eyes fell shut as my skin touched hers.
"I would always wait for you Rosie".
