《Boss and his Babygirl》Chapter 24: Dinner

"So um, who is this man, James?".

I felt a little uncomfortable going to a random person's house for dinner, but I had Dean and Lucy so I knew it would be alright. But I didn't understand why I was invited too. I would've been more than happy to stay back at the house and for them go to their friends house.

"James is a good friend of ours and he's also a business partner of mine. He's done a lot for us and has helped us in many ways". Dean had a soft smile on his face as he kept his eyes on the road.

"Yeah, James and Isabella are like our second family. Honestly, there's no better couple. They're a match made in heaven". I turned around to see Lucy beaming at me.

"But I don't mean to be rude, but why was I invited too? I mean, I don't know them".

Dean chuckled lightly and shook his head making me frown.

"James is the type of man who's interested in every aspect of our life. I believe Maria let slip that you were staying with us and he was curious about you".

"He can be quite intimidating to strangers, but I promise you he's more like a teddy bear once you get to know him" Lucy interjected. I hope he doesn't interrogate me tonight.

"Ooh we're here".

Staring out the window, my eyes fell upon a small house in the countryside surrounded by trees and beautiful flowers. It was the picture perfect house that you only see on the Internet. I would kill to have a home like this.

"Are you gonna get out of the car or do you want me to bring dinner out to you in the car?". My eyes flew up to Dean who was standing by my door with a menacing smirk.

Damn, how zoned out was I?

"You coming Rosie?" Dean held out his hand towards me and before he could catch sight of my red flushed cheeks I slipped my hand into his and allowed him to pull me up.

"Thanks" I blurted out before rushing over to Lucy. He had a wicked effect over me, and I hated it.

"Oh, I hope you love dogs. They have an adorable excitable puppy".

Lucy's excitable voice suddenly turned sinister as she turned around to face me on the small steps leading up to the house.

"But if you don't like dogs then I hate you and I never want to see you again".

She's 11 and she scares the shit out of me.

"Who can hate dogs? They're much more tolerable that humans". Lucy nodded in agreement before turning back to knock on the door.

I giggled lowly hearing an ecstatic puppy barking loudly and clawing at the door eager to pounce on us. Glancing around, my eyes met with Dean who was smiling widely at me as he slowly walked up behind me.

The door swung open and a mouth watering scent of food cooking hit my nostrils like a strong wind. I was already drawn in by the smell wafting through the home. But before I could gaze upon the home owner, a small yet wild puppy bounded towards us jumping up at our legs, tail wagging wildly and barking loudly unable to contain their excitement.

"Hello guys. I'm so glad you could make it". As the puppy ran back inside and nuzzled its nose upon a pair of very slim looking legs, my eyes roamed up to meet one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. She was truly breath taking. She must've been late 20's, early 30's, but she was stunning.

"Oh, Hello. You must be Rosie. We've heard a lot about you. Oh sorry, my name is Isabella. Welcome to our home".

Heard so much about me? What have they been saying about me? Did Dean tell them of how we met or something.

"Now now darling, don't bombard her right away otherwise she won't want to stay for dinner".

Just when I thought Isabella was incredibly good looking, a deep smooth voiced echoed from behind her and a pair of tanned arms snaked their way around Isabella's hips. A man, a man much taller than Isabella leaned over her staring at me with intense yet curious eyes. He was older than her, but just like Isabella, he was extremely attractive for an older man.

"Please excuse my eccentric wife, she's very keen to have you over Rosie".

I quickly swiped at my mouth hoping that there was no drool pooling out the side of my mouth as I gawked at this man in front of me. But to my relief, there was none.

"Come on in you guys, it's very cold outside and dinner is ready". The man who I presumed was James walked over towards Isabella and wrapped his arms around her waist kissing her gently on top of her head as she beckoned us in.

No wonder Lucy said they were couple goals, they were single handedly the most good looking couple I'd ever seen.

"Dean, it's good to see you". Taking my coat off, I watched the two men shake hands firmly with small smiles on their faces before James turned his attention to Lucy who embraced him in a hug.

"Please, come and sit down for dinner".

***************

"Wow! This is incredible".

As if she wasn't perfect enough, Isabella's cooking was out of this world. A warm hearty beef casserole that melted in your mouth with garlic bread. I hope they won't mind me having 4 portions of this.

"Thank you. You know, I used to be a terrible cook, but this man right here taught me how to cook. He's very skilful".

She stared up at her husband in awe with a huge smile on her face. It was the picture of love.

"I'm also skilful in other departments too". James wiggled his eyebrows at Isabella instantaneously turning her smile into a deep frown. Choking loudly on my garlic bread, I grabbed my water and gulped it down taken aback by the sudden dirty comment.

"Like what?" Lucy answered back suddenly with a mouthful of garlic bread.

"Erm, oh you know, cleaning, changing nappies. Oh and speaking of nappies who's ready for their chocolate pudding".

"You're disgusting James". Isabella playfully swatted James on the shoulder shaking her head before turning her attention back to her food.

"Gross. But speaking of nappies, where are your babies?" Lucy perked up.

I noticed that even though James and Isabella were sat side by side, he was constantly touching her. Whether it be resting his hand on hers or rubbing her back, he was always touching her, even whilst he ate. It was too adorable. How I wish I could find myself a man like James. Anyone with eyes could see how infatuated he was with her. Maybe I should ask how they met.

"Unfortunately our babies are fast asleep. We had a very busy day out today and of course Lily was out like a light, but Ethan fought so hard to stay awake, but he ended up falling asleep whilst he was eating".

"Aw, how old are your children?" I asked quietly whilst helping myself to my second portion of delicious food.

"Lily is 1 and Ethan is 7".

"Aww, how sweet".

"Sweet? Lily is adorable but Ethan is a little rascal" Dean jumped in making Isabella laugh.

"Takes after his father I guess".

"So if you don't mind me asking, how did you two meet?" I blurted out not realising that I would be greeted with a tense atmosphere.

Isabella's face scrunched up slightly before turning her attention to her food.

I hope I didn't say anything wrong.

"We met in a night club. For me, it was love at first sight. For Isabella it was creep alert at first sight. But my persistence paid off as she ended up falling for me and eventually became my wife".

James stared at his wife with concern and rubbed his thumb over her hand giving her a sad smile. But before I could question if they were okay, the conversation turned to me.

"So Rosie. Maria told us you're staying with Dean and Lucy. Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you two meet?".

I felt all eyes on me as the conversation of the evening was now turned on me. What was I supposed to say, that Dean stopped me from jumping off a bridge.

Turning my head over to Dean I could see he too was staring at me with unease wondering what I was going to say.

"I was in a very bad place. But then I met Dean. He helped me and I've been living with them ever since".

That was rather blunt.

James nodded at me with a smile on his face before staring down at Isabella who was staring at me with nothing but love and admiration.

"But there's more, Dean lo"-

"Hey James, can we talk in your office. I've got some things to show you". Lucy scoffed loudly at Dean for cutting through her sentence, but I could tell that whatever Dean had to talk to James about was serious.

"Sure. Will you be alright?". James wrapped his arm around Isabella's shoulder and stared at her with concern.

"Of course. I'll be fine. I know you have things to discuss".

We all sat silently watching James kiss Isabella tenderly before whispering something in her ear. Isabella stroked his cheek and smiled at him lovingly.

Oh my goodness. I want someone to look at me the way they look at one another. Someone needs to write a book about them.

"Come Dean. Ladies, we won't be long".

**************

"Do you want anything to drink?". James headed over to his drinks cabinet and grabbed down two glasses.

"No thanks, I'm driving". James nodded before pouring himself a glass and slumping himself down in his chair.

"I can see what Maria means, you certainly have a thing for this Rosie".

I scoffed loudly at his stupid comment and took a seat opposite him.

"Hmmm. But what about you. You seemed stressed". James ran his hand through his hair dishevelling it out of place.

"Has it got something to do with Isabella's condition. How's she been?".

I felt for James. I knew the secret behind their marriage and everything that happened between them. I was pleased that they made it thorough the dark times, but Isabella was more impacted by the events than expected.

"It's been rough man. We have good days and we have bad. She's on medication and we attend psychotherapy 2 times a week. But the other day she found out I was tracking a man down who was involved in a gang and she lost it".

Isabella suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder, but most of the time it could be somewhat controlled through help. James told me that after getting her memories back, it affected her worse than expected.

"What happened?".

"She became hysterical screaming and throwing things in anger. She said she didn't want a repeat of history and was scared that I'd ultimately die because of it. She was inconsolable saying she didn't want me to leave her. It was bad. It took everything I had to calm her down. That's why I have lied to her Dean. I lied to my wife saying that I'm not looking into it anymore, but I am. We need to keep this to ourselves, am I clear?".

"Yes Sir".

"Ok, now back to business".
