《Boss and his Babygirl》Chapter 1: No way out

"Oh my god, no".

Sinking down to the floor holding the letter I had been expecting to receive for some time now, I closed my eyes hoping this was just a horrible nightmare. I knew it was coming, but I hadn't expected it to be so soon.

It's not fair, I had been left in this world all alone, no help, no support and no family. I had nothing. After everything I went through, this would be the final blow to my miserable life. I had tried so hard to make it work, I got a job working on average 70 hours a week to survive, but the debts were too great. They weren't even mine, but they had been shoved onto me, not even sympathising that I had already lost so much.

Society was ruled by money. The rich preyed on the poor and the poor were ignored and left to survive on what little they had. No-one seemed to care anymore.

People smile at you, but no-one cares to ask how you actually are. People don't care to know.

Dear Miss Faye,

Due to a continuous fall behind in rent and a total rent arrears of £3,585, your flat will be repossessed within the next 30 days.

I couldn't bear to read any further. The first paragraph was enough to break my heart in two. I had nothing left. I was already in debt from my parents and their love of gambling, and now I couldn't keep up with the rent. I've lost everything. My family, gone. My home, soon to be taken from me. This home was all I had left.

What is the point of living when you have nothing left. No friends, no family, no worldly possessions, nothing.

Scrunching up the paper into a small ball, I threw it across the room watching it bounce off the wall and land on the sofa. I tugged at my hair as I screamed out in frustration.

None of this was my fault. I felt like giving up. I had felt like giving up a long time ago, but there was still a little hope. Now, I had none.

Jumping up from the spot I had been sat on the floor, I ran towards the front door and grabbed my keys before running out of the house and locking the door behind me.

I had completely ignored my neighbours and the friendly greeting of the door man, but his greeting soon turned into him shouting my name seeing my broken state. But no words could come out of my mouth. What was there left to say?

Picking up the pace, I ran along the dark and lonely road with no clue of where I was going. The sky lit up with lightning and a roar of thunder only encouraged me to run faster. People were hurrying to get out of the rain and into their warm homes, but I was running to escape the pain my miserable life had brought me.

I knew they were looking at me. I could feel their judgemental eyes on me. But with the tears and rain dripping down my face, I couldn't see them clearly. I couldn't see anything clearly anymore. My life was completely over. I had no options left. No way out.

The rain poured down on me completely soaking through my t-shirt and my jeans. My body shivered as the cold liquid made contact with my bare skin. My hair was completely drenched, but nothing mattered. I looked a mess, but my life was even more of mess.

There was only one thought going through my mind, the only thing I could do to make this pain stop. I never thought my life would come to this, but I saw no alternative. I had nothing and no-one. I was a burden to society.

Coming to a stop at the bridge near the home that was once mine, I took in 3 deep breaths before crossing the very lonely road and stood a few meters away from the railing.

Slowly walking over to the railing, I looked down at the water below and shivered. My heart was racing as I stared down at the dark waves of the water crashing against the pillars of the bridge, the weather conditions worsening by the minute.

The rain fell hard against my body as I stared out at the starless sky wondering if there was more to my life than I thought. But no matter which way I looked at it, there was no way out. Clasping the railing of the bridge I pulled myself up and slowly climbed to the top of the railing before kicking my legs over and stared down at the water below.

"Thank you Elijah, it was great doing business with you". I shook the hand of the arrogant man before dismissing myself and my men from the company of disgusting low life pigs. They reeked of greed and dishonesty, but sometimes you've got to make deals with the devil himself.

"Thank God that's over with" Jackson let out a breathy chuckle as he pulled out a cigarette and placed it in his mouth whilst leaning against his brand new car.

"I think we all deserve a night off after that meeting from hell".

I pulled out my phone and smiled seeing a text notification from Lucy telling me to hurry home and to bring a pizza back for dinner.

"How about we head to the strip club to de-stress. Drinks are on me" Jackson muttered out whilst trying to light his cigarette. The other men nodded and cheered in agreement, but I had other plans for tonight.

"Sorry boys, but I'm going to have to decline. I need to get home". I slipped my phone back into my pocket and smiled sadly at the boys who stared at me with unimpressed expressions. But they nodded all the same before leaving.

I could tell they got annoyed at me for always turning down their invitations for nights out, but Lucy was always very demanding and had me wrapped around her finger. However, they still respected me, after all I was their boss.

"Enjoy your night. Don't get too wasted as it's an early start tomorrow".

Jumping into my car, I pulled out of my parking space and headed onto the open road. The weather was utterly miserable as I sped down the dimly lit streets. Heavy raindrops hit the window like a strong force of small stones, they crashed down with such speed and force that even with my windscreen wipers, it was still a struggle to see clearly. But thankfully there weren't too many cars about.

The tap of the raindrops against the glass soothed my tiresome soul. It had been a stressful day and I needed someone to talk to. And there was only one person who could make me feel better after a rubbish day.

After 10 minutes of continuous driving along the lonely roads, a dark figure with long brown hair caught my attention as she stood underneath a dimly lit lamppost. It looked like she was just looking over the bridge, but as I drove closer towards her, the girl suddenly began to climb the railings and held on as if she was about to jump.

Fuck.

Pressing down on my brakes hard and switching the car off, I jumped out and ran out into the pouring rain.

It felt as if time had completely slowed down as I ran towards her. My legs worked harder than they ever had before. Every second was precious as all it could take was 1 single second for her hands to let go of the railing and fall into cold water below.

I had never understood suicide, but then again I had never been in a situation of complete despair. I had no clue what this girl had gone through, but I wasn't going to let her throw her life away when I could try and get her help.

Wrapping my arms around her waist, I yanked her off the railing and knocked her back onto the floor. The girl cried out and struggled in my hold as she tried to reach for the railing. Her helplessness made my heart clench. Seeing her almost beg for death made me feel sorry for her. Pushing myself up, I kept my arms wrapped around her waist with a firm grip not wanting her to jump. Walking back towards my car with her still squirming around in my arms, I tried to calm her uncontrollable sobs down by whispering words of comfort and reassurance

"Shhh. Try and focus on my voice" I whispered to her, but she kept on crying and pleading for me to let her go. But I refused. She was so young and so fragile. She needed help and I would make sure she received it.

"P-please let me g-go. I've got nothing left". Her soft voice held raw emotions that anyone could tell she had kept locked up for so long.

"I don't know what an earth is going through that head of yours, but there is no way I am leaving you. Keep your focus on me, and breathe just like me. That's it, take a deep breath in and out".

The girl slowly stopped fighting me and relaxed her completely soaked body onto my chest. Her breaths were laboured as she stared out at the starless sky looking completely exhausted. The rain continued to pour down onto us as we both stood still surrounded by silence. I had never felt such emotion when meeting a stranger. This certainly wasn't how I had expected my night to turn out.

Escorting her away from the rail, I guided her towards my car and opened up the rear door. Rummaging around I grabbed one of my hoodies that I always kept in the car for Lucy and placed it over her.

"Here, this should keep you warm for now".

With the light of the car I took a good look at her face. Her mascara dripped down her cheeks looking like small black streams. Her eyes were red and swollen from all the crying and emotional turmoil. She looked like she hadn't slept in weeks.

She tried to open her mouth to talk, but the only sounds she could make were broken sobs.

"I'll take you to my home so you can get warmed up and have something to eat. Then I can get you some help. Is that okay?".

The broken girl nodded her head slowly as I opened up the passenger side door and gestured for her to enter in. She looked at me with hesitation and uncertainty but after a brief minute she got in and waited for me to do the same.

Dammit Dean, what are you getting yourself into.

Slipping into the drivers side seat, I clicked my seat belt in and switched the car back on. Soon enough I was back on the long quiet road again, except this time I had a random scared woman with me.

What is Lucy gonna think?
