《Sweet Disaster》24| Jammie

We walked into Candy's and stood in line. She was standing directly in front of me and was looking at the chalkboards which had the menu scribbled down. "Why don't we get something different? We always get the same thing," she mumbled.

"Do you want coffee then?"

She shook her head. "Coffee makes my stomach hurt. And actually increases cramps," she said, glancing at me over her shoulder.

"Milkshake?" I suggested.

She shook her head, "I don't like dairy so much, it makes my stomach hurt after a point."

"Um... what about soda?"

She shook her head. My god, she is so picky.

"It's our turn next, just order the usual. You're too picky," I chuckled.

"Am I paying?" she questioned.

"No." I slipped the money into her back pocket. "You're not." She stepped up to the counter and I realized immediately that the waiter was the same one from this morning.

"Hey again, what can I get for you?" He grinned at her.

"Um, two iced black teas, please," she said awkwardly while fishing the money out of her pocket.

"Size?"

"Medium, both of them."

He grabbed two cups, scribbled it down, but he didn't ask for her name. Which means he remembers it from earlier. He slid it forward and then started doing the total. "Two? Are you guys together?" He glanced at me over her shoulder.

Neither of us answered, we just looked at each other.

"In that case, sorry," he chuckled awkwardly. "I don't know if you noticed but I put my number on your cup earlier in the morning. I wouldn't have done that if I knew he was your boyfriend."

"He's not," she said quickly, placing the money in his hand. "He's not my boyfriend," she mumbled.

He looked between us and then handed her the change before printing the receipt. "Oh. Can I give you my number then?" he asked, grabbing a tissue and getting his marker ready.

I rolled my eyes and looked around instead of at them.

She'll say no anyway. She turned and glanced at me before turning back around, taking the receipt he handed her. "Sure."

I blinked, my head whipping forward while I stared at her.

He smiled and then wrote down his number quickly, handing her the tissue. "Call me. Or don't, up to you. But you're very pretty."

"Thank you," she chuckled, taking the tissue and folding it up, tucking it into her pocket. She stepped out of line. "See you around." She moved to collect our drinks but I didn't move at all. "Reece."

I turned to look at her when she called my name.

She shot me a look before grabbing my arm and pulling me away. She grabbed our drinks and handed me mine before walking over and sitting at a table. I followed numbly and sat down, staring at her. She stabbed her straw through the top and then sipped on the tea. "What?" she asked, her lips still around the straw as she bit down on it.

"Why did you just do that?"

"Do what?" She grabbed the salt shaker from the table and started sliding it between her hands, passing it from one to the other.

I grabbed it, putting it back where it was.

"What did I do?" She laughed.

"Why did you take his number? You didn't want it this morning."

She shrugged, "He seems nice though." She looked over at him and then looked back at me. "Why are you so pissed?"

"I'm not. I'm just..." I trailed off, shrugging nonchalantly.

"Reece. What we're doing isn't going to last forever. It'll probably end in a few weeks."

"Weeks?"

"Months?"

I shrugged.

"Months. Let's just say months. Anyway, when it ends, what am I going to do? You have so many girls lined up for you, I should at least have one nice guy I can date."

"Date? You'd date him?" I asked, pointing at him over my shoulder.

"Don't point," she hissed.

I pulled my hand down and sipped my drink, staring out the window. "You can't date him," I scoffed.

"You can't tell me what to do."

"I mean... you shouldn't date him."

"Why not? He doesn't go to our college so you can't tell me anything bad about him because you wouldn't know. He looks cute, he's tall, he has a nice smile. He's friendly and respectful." She glanced at the guy again and smiled. "And he's giving a little kid free candy, see," she giggled.

I turned around, glancing at him. "Kids that take candy from strangers are stupid," I replied.

"His parents are right there. And that doesn't make the stranger stupid." She pulled out her phone and the tissue. She quickly typed in the number before I could take the tissue. I ripped it up anyway and she looked at me. "I saved it already."

"You don't even know his name."

"I read his nametag. It's Callum."

Fuck Callum. I hate Callum. Someone should get rid of Callum.

She looked up as the door opened and I followed her gaze, seeing Chloe and Caleb walking in. "Chlo!" Indie called out.

They spotted us and came over. "Hello," Chloe sang, looking between us. "Is this a date we see?" She teased.

"No," we said at the same time.

"Looks like one," Caleb said, looking at me. He blinked at my hands. "And the matching nails say otherwise."

I flipped him off and sipped my drink.

"You guys want to join?" Indie offered.

"Sure. I'll go order," Chloe shrugged.

"I'll order," Caleb said quickly and then he turned around and got in line.

Chloe stood there, looking between me and Indie. "Why so much tension?"

"What tension?" Indie asked.

"There's no tension," I shook my head.

She looked at me as I said that and then slipped into the booth beside me, nudging my hip with hers and pushing me further inside while I looked at her in confusion. "Do I look stupid to you? Why do you look so pissed?" She frowned at me. She turned to Indie when I didn't answer. "Why is he so pissed?"

Indie looked at me, probably debating whether she should tell the truth and embarrass me or not. She shrugged, "I don't know. Bad day, probably."

"Aw, why? You can't handle not getting laid by her?" Chloe laughed. I shot her an unimpressed look and she shrugged, putting her hands on the table. She grabbed my wrist and then grabbed Indie's arm, putting our hands down while she looked at our nails. "Who's idea was this?"

"Jackie's," Indie answered. "I told him to get his done but she said we should match."

"And you agreed?" She turned to me.

"Yeah, they're just painted nails," I shrugged.

She and Indie exchanged a look before Chloe shook her head and leaned back, turning to me. "You're stupid."

"You're stupid," I retorted.

"You're stupid." We both looked up at Caleb who set Chloe's drink in front of her and sat beside Indie.

"You're taking her side?" I scoffed. "Then you're stupid too."

"No, you are," he smiled.

"You're all stupid," Indie said stirring her straw, the ice moving inside her drink.

"My lady and gents," Chloe cleared her throat. "Let's do something tonight. I don't have classes tomorrow, Indie only has one but it's English so I'm sure you can skip it?"

Indie nodded, "Sure. The year's almost done anyway. Barely a month left now."

"What about you gentleman?"

"I've just got English too," I replied.

"Then you can skip. And you?" She turned to Caleb.

"I've got chemistry."

"Caleb," she whined. "Please?"

He watched her warily and Indie and I looked at each other. Glad to know we're both seeing this. "I'll skip," he caved in.

"Great. We'll have a jammie party then."

Indie choked on her drink and I barely swallowed mine down before laughing. Caleb was trying to hold it in and was failing miserably.

"It sounds cute, don't laugh. We'll have a jammie party," Chloe said, sounding determined.

I looked at her, sipping my drink so I wouldn't laugh.

She rolled her eyes at me. "Fine. Pajama party. A sleepover, hmm?"

"Where?" Caleb asked.

"Your apartment." She pointed at me.

"Why mine?" I frowned.

"Because Whiskey."

Indie nodded in agreement. "Valid reason. Yours." She pointed at me too.

"Okay," I shrugged, running a hand through my hair. I felt Chloe staring at me so I turned to her.

"Does it feel nice?" she asked.

I looked at her weirdly. "What?"

"Looking like a fuckboy when you do that. Run your hand through your hair." She pointed to my hair.

"Huh?" I stared at her in confusion.

"You're so fucking stupid," she sighed, shaking her head before turning to the other two and talking with them.

For the rest of the time we were here, I kept looking over at Callum to see how many other girls he was giving his number to. None. He didn't give his number to any other girl, he didn't even check any girl out. The ones who were throwing themselves at him, he politely pulled away with a smile, and he got along with every little kid who accompanied their parents. Such a good boy. Fucking dick. I would delete that number from her phone if I could.

Caleb stood up and let Indie out since she had to go to the bathroom and then they both turned to me.

I'm feeling a sudden instinct to run.

"Why do you keep glaring at that guy?" Chloe asked, glancing at Callum.

"I'm not glaring at anybody. Just looking around."

Caleb scoffed. "You're jealous. Why? Did he hit on her?"

"He gave her his number, didn't he?" Chloe said, watching me with interrogative eyes.

"You should be a spy," I said to her.

She smiled at me and then patted my shoulder. "Instead of being jealous, my dear friend, do something. Too little, too late. He'll swoop in and take her."

"Will she go with him?" I mumbled.

"I'll make sure she does," she grinned.

I glared at her. "Why the fuck would you do that?"

"Because you can only use each other for so long. And I don't like seeing my best friend hurt. So get on the right track, Reece. Or pack it up. Tick tock, time runs out fast. Let me go have a chat with her now." She stood up and went into the bathroom.

I turned to Caleb. "How the fuck do you like a girl who's so interrogative?"

"She's right though. Tick tock, time runs out fast, Reece," he shrugged.
