I drove like a madman through the streets of San Jose to reach Kate's apartment. When she called me about the break-in in her house, I had to leave an important business meeting with a potential investor. I have missed so much work in the past 2 months, it is starting to affect the entire company. But it doesn't matter, I have taken up the responsibility of protecting Amy and I will give up anything for it. I park my car in front of the apartment complex and run up to Kate's floor. She is sitting outside her apartment talking to the police officer. She looks calm, so much calmer than me.

"Are you alright?", I ask turning her around to see for any injuries.

" Oh My God, I am fine. I was not here. Will you stop touching me now? I knew I shouldn't have called you. You are paranoid."

"Stop being difficult and tell me what happened", I ask her.

"I came back from University and opened my apartment. It was thrashed. My sofa is torn, tv broke, everything is thrown everywhere. It's a mess."

"F**k, It must be Sandro" I curse.

"Do we need to investigate this Sandro person Madam", the old police officer asks Kate.

" No Officer, Ethan is just being paranoid", Kate says rolling her eyes.

She might think this is a random home invasion but I don't believe it for one second. The culprits came from the terrace entrance and directly went to her apartment. They were there for more than an hour and tore down the place. It's a message from Sandro. Even though James and I have kept quiet, we are in touch with the DA's office in Hawaii who are pressing charges on Sandro. Amy is against pressing charges. She is scared and I understand her reasons but I can't let it go. I need to make that bastard pay.

James was able to convince Amy to tell about her first attacker, Matt. We are pressing charges against him as well.

I wanted Amy to get better before we went to court. Any time now the news will break in the media. Being criticized by the gossip mongers is not what Amy needs right now. So I have been using all my influence to keep the news under wrap. Sandro probably is doing the same. It will affect his business a lot of he is being sued. Most of the journalists are roaming around hotels and beaches in Hawaii to click celebrity pictures. Had it happened in San Francisco, it would have been the breaking news the very next morning.

Today, James is in Hawaii to meet the DA and talk about the case. In the past month, our PI was able to collect a lot of evidence against Sandro and Matt. There were many rape cases reported against Sandro but was later retracted. I am sure he used his power and threatened the victims. The DA's office is very confident they will win the case. Only yesterday, Elsa came to visit me, asking me to drop the charges. When I didn't agree, she started her waterworks trying to emotionally blackmail me. I didn't budge so Sandro is threatening me by trying to hurt Kate. If anything happens to Kate, Amy will be scared and she will not come forward. With this attack, he has proved how dangerous he is.

I help Kate pack a bag to take her to my penthouse.

"You don't have to worry about anything. I will get the cleaning guys tomorrow and get everything replaced", I say as we drive to my place.

" You know you don't have to pay all our bills. I earn enough to buy my own things. And you had nothing to do with what happened", Kate says.

"Okay, Fine. I should probably ask you to pay rent, for staying at my place", I say. Kate and I have become kind of friends. Though she wouldn't admit it, I think she forgave me. She is like the annoying little sister who finds ways to trouble you. Both my sisters where always mature beyond their ages even when they were little. We never fought or played pranks like many siblings. We were always cordial but distant. Being around Kate, it's refreshing.

" How much", she asks pulling out her purse.

"Let me calculate. I bought the penthouse for 40 million. It's about 10,000 square feet. So 4000 dollars per square foot. Average rent per square foot in my apartment complex is 10 dollars. So 40000 per month divided by 30 days. Roughly around 1500 dollars including maintenance and food. You will be eating right?"

"Oh My God, drop me off in the next model.", she shrieks which makes me laugh.

"Just kidding. I am doing this as a favour to James. I was supposed to go to Hawaii then I had this meeting with the investor this morning. James went there for me. So the least I could do is let his sister stay at my place in a time of crisis"

"Fine. James was telling me about all the new evidence we got. The case looks positive"

"Yeah, I only hope we can convince Amy to take the stand"

"James will convince Amy. He is very persuasive", Kate says and I grip the steering wheel harder. Even though Amy and I are in better terms, we are not as close as she and James. James has a way of convincing her to do things. She listens to him and tells him things that she doesn't say even to Kate. After everything, I should just be fortunate that Amy is okay with me being around. But every time Amy and James are around each other, I feel a sharp pain in my chest. I can't help but feel like a moron for destroying my own life and love.

"You have any idea how long the cleaning guys will take to clean up the apartment. Amy will be back home in two days."

"Amy is not be staying there Kate. It's too dangerous. Amy is going to stay in my penthouse. It's safer. No one can break in there. You should also stay with your brother for some time."

"I know what you are planning. You want to woo Amy"

"Are we in the 19th century? Woo... Really.. ", I tease her.

" Fine, charm her... Or Whatever... You know James likes Amy, right.", she says softly.

"I know"

"Is this your attempt to sabotage their relationship?"

I take a deep breath and say,

"Even though it will hurt like hell to see Amy with someone else. After everything she is been through, I only want her to be happy. If she finds her happiness in James, I will have to accept that. But if you are worried, you can come and stay with us. Be her chaperone. I will even give you a discount on the rent", I say trying to make light of the mode. Kate hits me on my arm. For a little woman, she can pack a punch.

Today Amy is being released from the mental health facility. I signed the discharge papers and I wait for her to pack her things. After looking at the state of Kate's apartment, James also thought it was better if Amy stayed with me. From his sources, James learnt that Sandro has set a price on Amy's head among the underworld. So we have increased the security measures drastically.

As I thought, the news about Amy's assault was leaked to the media yesterday, by an anonymous source, which I think is Sandro's legal team. Every news channel has been behind this new development trying to find any information about Amy that they can use to get more viewers for their news Channel. My primary concern is to shield her from this media frenzy. I have a PR team working on it to turn every gossip favourable to us which is working out great. The hashtag #me2byS we started is been trending and a few women have come forward with details of Sandro's previous assaults. Every day the case looks more and more positive. I want to go to court as soon as possible so we can throw him in jail and be done with.

After a couple of minutes, Amy walks out of the facility. She looks stunning in a yellow dress and a beautiful smile on her face. Looking at her now reminds me of our wedding day. Amy looked breathtaking walking down the aisle next to Pops in a white lace gown, a veil, a bouquet and a magnificent smile. At that moment, I felt like the luckiest man on the planet. For some weird reason, as she walks to me, I feel like I am standing in front of the altar and we are about to get married. I had to look away to clear my mind and not blurt out something stupid.

" Hey... I thought James and Kate would be coming", Amy asks searching the car.

"They are at home, organizing a welcome home party for you"

Kate wanted to throw a surprise party. But James and I put our foot down. There is no way we are scaring Amy. Kate had arranged a cute party with everything Amy likes for just the four of us.

Amy was happy to be home though shocked to be in my penthouse. We didn't want to spook her about the home invasion so we told her Kate was going away to Geneva for a conference which she is. Kate had brought some board games to play which was fun since I have not played board games since I was in middle school.

When we were busy playing Monopoly when Pops surprised us with a visit. He rarely left Nan's side since we learnt about her illness. I knew it is something important if he was here. I have been in touch with him since the day Amy was attacked. He and Genna have been my constant source of support and encouragement. I haven't spoken to Greg or my parents even though they have been blowing up my phone with texts and voice messages. None of the messages was an apology. They were just an explanation of their reasons which only makes me angrier.

"Hey Pops, didn't expect to see you today?", I say greeting him in the foyer.

"I was having a meeting with the lawyers. So thought will drop by and see my favourite granddaughter-in-law"

Pops has been referring to Amy as granddaughter-in-law since we were engaged. When I told him about a girl I met in New York he was sceptical at first. When he met her, he told me I outdid myself by finding an amazing girl like Amy. Even after our divorce, he continued to refer Amy as his granddaughter-in-law though I tried to correct him many times.

I walk with him to the living room where James, Kate and Amy are still playing.

"Pops, you know James. This is his sister and Amy's friend Kate."

"Nice to meet you, Ms Kate. Ethan tells me you and James helped Amy a lot. I want to extend my gratitude to both of you"

"It's no problem", Kate squeaks looking awestruck.

" Sorry, Mr Harris. My sister gets a bit celebrity crazy", James says chuckling while Kate glares at him.

"I am no celebrity", Pops says and asks Amy, " How are you doing, sweetheart?"

"I am getting better", Amy says looking uncomfortable.

" I am so relieved to see you, dear. Also, I am here to apologize for not looking after you when Ethan and you separated", he says softly.

"It's okay. You were busy with Elise"

"Yes, I was but we are family. I never told you this, when I was younger, I very much wanted a daughter. But as you know I am blessed with three sons and no daughter. When I walked you down the aisle, I felt like I had the pleasure of having a daughter. And I told myself you will be my daughter no matter what. You are my responsibility whether you and Ethan are together or not. And I regret to not have kept in touch with you all these years. Please accept my apology. I promise you will have all my support henceforth no matter what".

Amy nods and thanks Pops with a sincere smile but her eyes are misted.

" Ethan, Can I have a word with you in private?", Pops asks me and I excuse myself and we go to my bedroom for privacy.

"I had a meeting with lawyers to take your dad, mom, Greg and Elsa off my will.", Pops says shocking me.

" Why the sudden decision?"

"I have been upset with them since we learnt how they were meddling in your marriage. I had given them enough time to may amends or at the least apologize to you. But they seem to think they have a say in your life. After what happened to Amy, they haven't shown any sympathy and worse they are rationalizing such barbaric action. I can't let our ancestor's company go into the hands of people who can't make the right decisions", he says sternly.

" I understand but don't you think it's a bit harsh"

"I have forgiven so many mistakes, this was the last straw. Also, I am making you the CEO for Harris Inc."

"Pops, I am happy that you trust me enough to make me the CEO but my plate is full with Harris Software and Amy. I can't take on more responsibility."

"I understand and I want you to make everything right with Amy. So meanwhile, I have made Walter the acting CEO."

"But what about uncle Walter's retirement."

My Dad's elder brother Walter has been the CEO since Pops retirement. When his only son and my cousin, Chase, died of a drug overdose about 10 years ago, he stepped down letting my father become the CEO. And about a year back my uncle and aunt decided to retire and moved to a luxurious retirement community.

"Walter had enough of that retirement community, he and Stephanie moved to. He is been asking me for any available position for some time now and he is excited to return when I discussed with him"

I have no idea what to say. On one side, I feel they need to atone to the mistakes they did but on the other side, I am worried how they will handle this. I only hope they don't take out their anger on Amy.
