Turns out, prom was on Friday. Meaning I had 4 days to find a dress. Luckily, it was easier than I thought it would be. Cynthia, Carly and I had gone dress shopping on Tuesday after school. Even though they went to a different school, we were able to get then guest tickets.
Skip forward several more days and Cynthia and Carly were over at my house getting ready for the big night.
"All done." Carly said as she secured the last bobby pin in my hair. She was on hair duty, I was on makeup duty. And Cynthia was on driving everyone crazy duty."
I twisted around to my bathroom mirror and examined myself. My hair was twisted into a fancy looking bun with curled tendrils falling to the sides of my face. I had already done my makeup and I glanced over it to make sure I hadn't smudged everything. My eye makeup was a less heavy smoky eye, with some silver accents and my lips were colored a darker red.
A smile spread over my face as I looked at myself, it had been such a long time since I had dressed up for anything.
"Thank you so much Carly, it looks amazing!" I said, turning around and hugging her. She let out soft laugh and then turned to Cynthia who had already started on her hair.
"Your turn!" she beamed and Cynthia let out a sigh.
"Thank god, I've already bunt my fingers 3 times."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
After everyone as ready, we migrated into my room. I grabbed my dress and took it out of the bag, sliding my hands over the soft navy blue material. The other two turned to me and grinned.
"Hurry up, I want to see!" Cynthia said, her tongue darting out and licking her bright red lips. I did exactly what she had requested and done a dark smoky eye on her and she loved it.
"Okay, okay." I said before turning so my back was towards them and changing out of my clothes. I had put on a zip up jacket before we had done any hair and makeup so I wouldn't ruin anything when taking it off.
I carefully unzipped the dress and stepped into it, pulling it up.
"Cynthia stepped up from behind me and helped pull the zipper up. Once everything was in place I turned around and looked into my mirror.
I saw Cynthia nd Carly grinning from behind me as I looked at it wide eyed.
"You're so pretty." Carly said and Cynthia nodded as my eyes trailed down my floor length dress.
It has thinner flowy layers of soft navy fabric that flowed down from my cinched waist. The top was strapless with the fabric bunched up lending down to the silver jewels that ran along my waist. A smile slipped onto my face as I turned to the other two girls.
"Alright, now its your turns."
Cynthia had a black dress that had thin straps leading down to the simple top. Her cinched at the waist and flowed down to the bottom of her dress that was floor length in the back and trailed up to right above her knees in the front. I grinned when she put hers on, just picturing Kyle's jaw on the floor. Even if they didn't want to admit it, they both had a thing for each other, it was pretty obvious.
Carly had gone for a dress that hung to the floor, it was a light peachy color and had jewels dancing along her top, training down and accenting her figure.
"I don't know about you guys, but I think we look pretty hot." Cynthia said and Carly and I both laughed and nodded.
"You're going to knock Kyle's socks off Cynthia, and you for Jason Carly." I said and Cynthia turned to me with a playful glare. Her glare melted off her face as she grinned and tilted her head looking at me.
"And you are going to drive Zack crazy, oh by the way. I never got the chance to ask you about that one night in the front yard when I caught you two. I may have been drunk but I still remember." Cynthia said raising her eyebrows at me. Carly looked over to me with a surprised look on her face.
"Did you kiss him?" Carly asked and I let out a groan.
"No, I didn't kiss him then." I said trying to play it cool but Carly caught on.
"Then? As in you kissed him another time?" She asked and Cynthia's jaw dropped as I looked to the floor, pink tinging my cheeks.
"Your kissed him? Are you shitting me? nd you didn't tell me?" Cynthia asked, staring at me wide eyed.
"Maybe?" I asked as I stepped back guiltily.
"You bitch, tell us!" Cynthia squealed and Carly stepped forward, eager to hear what I had to say.
"We may have kissed at the warehouse." I said and they both squealed. I cringed away, my poor ear drums threatening to burst.
"We need details." Cynthia and I turned to her with a slight smirk growing on my face.
"Not until you tell us what you have going on with Kyle." I said and her face dropped to a blank look.
"Nothing is going on between us, what are you talking about?" She asked and I saw Carly match my smirk.
"Cynthia, everybody knows you two like each other." I said and Carly nodded.
"What? He- I- We do not like each other." She stuttered and this time it was her blushing. I just shrugged it off, saving it for another time but her reaction was all I needed.
"Okay, whatever you say." I said and right after my last word exited my mouth, my phone rang. I walked over to my dresser to see it was Zack calling. I picked it up with a small smile.
"Hey." I said and turned to slip my silver high heals on. The girls started finishing up everything they needed too as Zack spoke.
"Hey, are you guys ready? Eric is planning on leaving in a minute to get you guys." His voice floated through my phone.
"Yeah, were ready." I said and I heard slight movement oh his end on the phone.
"Yeah they're ready" I herd him say to somebody else, probably Eric.
"Alright, he's leaving now, see you soon kitten." He said and I smiled.
"See you soon." I said and I heard voices in the background.
"Oh, see you soon kitten, love you babe." I heard Cody say, followed by dramatic noises of making out.
"Fuck off, you're just jealous that I've got a pretty-" Zack started to say before the line clicked off. I let out a small laugh before turning to the girls.
"Eric will be here in a minute."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eric's eyes moved along the three of us when I opened the door, a smile turning his lips up.
"You three look great." He said and I smiled.

"Thank you." I said as we all stepped outside. I spun around and locked the door behind me before continuing out to the car.
"Got the camera Carly?" I asked as I fastened my seatbelt, stationed in the passenger seat.
"Yep." She responded as Eric pulled off down the street.
"Hey Eric, can you tell me why nobody told us that Zoe had kissed Zack?" Cynthia asked and I choked oh my spit whole Eric looked over to me with wide eyes.
"Oh no." Cynthia said from the back, holding in a laugh as Eric looked back and forth between me and the road.
"Eyes on the road Eric." I said and tried to look ahead like everything was normal.
"Nuh uh, you're not getting away with that one. I have a bet to win. When?" he asked and my jaw dropped.
"A bet? On what?" I asked exasperated.
"Well we have a few so I can't tell you." I said and I glared at him.
"Okay first off, who is we? Second off, you can't make bets about me and not tell me!" I threw my hands up in the air as he just let a small smile slip onto his face.
"Would you look at that, were here." He said as he parked the car along the curb. I let out a huff before stepping out of the car. All 4 of us made our way up to the front door and Eric held it open for us. I gave him a quick thank you before stepping in, holding up my dress to make sure I didn't trip and die. The boys would never let me live that one down.
"Oh my God Zoe! You look amazing!" Sam said bouncing over and a grid over took my face.
"Thank you, an don't you look fancy." I said looking over his suit that had a light pink undershirt poking through, giving it a bit of individuality.
"Thanks! Oh, and Zack is panicking trying to make sure he doesn't look like an idiot. He said he'd be down in a minute." He chirped and I nodded before he turned his attention to the other two girls.
I walked over to the mirror that was on the wall next to the front door to check that everything was in place. My stomach fluttered slightly as I though about what Zack would think. What if he hated it? What if he had changed his mind and didn't want to go with me?
I pushed the thoughts out of my mind as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I did one more quick check before turning around to Zack who was stepping off of the last step, staring at me with wide eyes and a slightly unhinged jaw. His eyes trailed down my body as mine did the same for him. He was wearing a simple nicely fitted suit with a navy blue tie. I looked up to his face to see a small smile take over his features as he made his way back up to my face.
"Like it?" I asked putting my arms to my side and swaying a little bit. His smile grew and he nodded.
"You look beautiful." He said and I felt a heat spread to y cheeks.
"You don't look too bad yourself." I replies, trying to hold in my cheek splitting grin.
I looked over to Carly who was talking to Jason with a smile on her face. I looked over to Cynthia and her eyes met mine with a grin. She quickly tore her sight to the staircase as somebody started to walk down though. I looked over to see Kyle come down, his eyes immediately locking on Cynthia with the same expression that Zack had.
"You look Amazing Cynthia." He said once he made it to the bottom nd I looked over to her to see her cheeks tinge slightly as she looked to the ground. An arm snaked around my waist making me jump slightly and look over to see Zack smiling down at me.
"I give them a month tops before they're together." He bent down and whispered into my ear, making me grin. I nodded and looked to the pair. It would be less than that if I can get them both to admit their feelings to me. shouldn't be too hard.
"Alright, is everyone ready?" Cody asked as he bounced into the room, Cameron following close behind. everyone looked to each other and nodded.
"We need pictures first." I chirped and several people nodded.
"Alright, lets take them out front then." Zack said as Eric pulled open the door. everyone shuffled out to the front yard and I helped Carly unfold the tripod and set it up as everyone shuffled into place.
"Alright, Zack, Jason, and Kyle in the middle with the girls in front of their dates." I said and Cynthia opened her mouth to argue about Kyle being called her date but I just ignored her and continued talking.
"Eric and Cameron you're on the sides and Sam and Cody kneel down in front." I said and everybody shuffled into place as I set the timer. I nodded to Carly to go and get in place and she did.
"It will take 3, we can do a nice one first then you guys can do whatever." Carly said and I nodded.
I hit the capture button and then quickly made my way over to everybody and got in place. Zack put his hands on my hips in the typical prom pose and everybody smiled before the camera clicked. Then everybody shifted into funny poses, Zack picking me up by my waist and facing the side. I squealed and let out a laugh as the camera clicked for the second time.
Zack quickly changed positions as I continued laughing. He scooped me up bridal style, making me almost kick Cody in the head as I laughed and held on to Zack so I wouldn't fall. The camera clicked for the last time and Zack set me down laughing.
"Let's do a few others and then we can go." Carly said and everyone agreed.
We ended up getting pictures of just the 'couples', just the girls then one with only the boys. I snapped a few singles of everybody before Zack took the camera and turned it on me. He took a few before turning it like a selfie and taking some pictures of the two of us before we all packed up and got into several different cars as the sky was darkening, and made our way to the school. I smiled all the way there as Zack drove, his hand holding mine the entire ride.

8 86The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
