"10 bucks on Cynthia and Kyle." Jason said and Carly and Cameron agreed.
"Nah, 10 on Zoe and Zack." Cole said and Sammy agreed with him.
I looked over to Eric to see him looking between us all before his eyes landed on mine. I winked at him and his lips turned up.
"Zoe and Zack." He said still looking at me. Zack gabbed my hips from behind and pulled me to his chest. I laughed as he pulled me over a little so we were more in the middle of the pool. Cynthia and I both got behind our partners and put our hands on their shoulders. Zack looked back at me and grinned.
"Ready?" he asked and I nodded. He bobbed up a little before plunging into the water. I felt him grab my ankles and help me on. I balanced myself and Zack popped back up. I grabbed the top of his head laughing as I tried to balance. He laughed at me and a second later, Kyle popped back up from the water with a laughing Cynthia on his shoulders. Zack wiped the water out of his eyes and set his hands on the top of my thighs to keep me steady.
"Ready?" I asked looking at the pair we were fighting.
"Yep, you're going down." Cynthia said grinning.
"Alright, 3... 2... 1... Go!" Cameron said from the edge of the pool. We both laughed as we moved forwards and grabbed each other's arms trying to push each other over. I almost fell backwards but Zack saved me by leaning forward. I got a hold of Cynthia's shoulders and quickly shoved her back. They swayed back and forth for a second before she fell backwards with a splash. I laughed and threw my hands up in the hair as some of the group cheered and some huffed knowing they just lost money.
Zack lowered into the water and I slid off but instead of swimming away, once he popped back up, I grabbed his shoulders and wrapped my legs around his torso. He laughed and started spinning in the water making it difficult to hold on but I just wrapped my arms tighter and buried my face where his neck met his shoulder.
He continued to laugh as he switched directions making me slide a little and squeal. I slid to his side and tried to hold on but he stopped suddenly making me lose my grip. He grabbed onto my waist and pulled me back up and around to his front right before I was about to fall back completely. I wrapped my arms around his neck and laughed with him.
Our laughter died down and I could hear the low voices of the rest of the group that was out of the pool. Zack was silent as he gazed into my eyes. He looked happy, the usual crease between his eyebrows had disappeared and had moved to be slight crinkles at the corners of his eyes. I looked into his swirling eyes happily. His eyes flickered down, and he licked his bottom lip.

My eyes traced over his now smooth-shaven face and couldn't help but notice how close we were. His face was only about two inches away from mine and our noses would have been touching if we were to lean in a little closer. My eyes met his and his eyes were slightly darker than before. His hands felt like they were burning the skin on my back. He started to lean in slightly but before he could get any closer, a voice rung out.
"Come on Zack. No making out with girls in my pool." Cameron said from about 10 feet away. I looked over with a hot face to see almost everyone looking towards us smirking.
"Come on Cameron, I wanted to see the show." Cody said before punching his arm. Zack huffed and looked back at me. I laughed a little as he started to walk to the stairs leading out of the pool. I figured he would set me down, but he just kept walking out of the pool with my legs and arms still wrapped around him. I didn't argue though, instead I got distracted by Cynthia pulling Zack over to the rest of the group who was by the back door by his hand.
I shivered as a colder breeze blew by. Zack tightened his arms around me and we made it over to the group.
"I think it's time to go inside." Eric said sliding open the door and flipping on the inside light. Everyone started to make their way in.
"Wait Zack, my purse." I said trying to untangle my legs but he just held on tighter and walked over to the table. He bent down a little and grabbed it before smirking at me and making his way back to the doors.
Even though we both had drank a fair amount, him and I were probably the most sober.
Well, Eric too.
He slid the door open the rest of the way and I looked around as he stepped in. There was a big living room type area to the left and the doors we walked in led us to the kitchen. Everything was more sleek and modern looking. There was a large island with stools on one side and cabinets and drawers on the other. In the living room there was a large L shaped tan colored couch with another matching 3 seat couch. A huge flat screen tv stretched across the wall. I was pulled out of my observations by Zack speaking up.
"The girls need to go change before they get sick." He said and I swiveled my head back to him.
"You need to change too." I said as Cynthia walked over to us. He nodded his head slightly before looking at the female twin with a slight frown.
"Put her down, we need to go change." She said slapping his arm lightly. He just scowled before turning to my smirking.
"Unless you want me to come with." He said mischievously. I heard her hand hit his arm again harder as my face heated up.

"Ow, okay okay!" he said and loosened his grip so I could slide down. As my bare feet hit the tile, I shivered again since my main source of heat had stepped away from me again. I wrapped my arms around myself to try and stay a little warmer, but my hand was grabbed by Cynthia.
I smiled at Zack one last time before being pulled around the corner and up the stairs. My feet hit soft plush carpet as we climbed up to the top. She pulled me a few doors down before we stepped into a spacious room.
The walls were a light grey where you could see them but were mostly covered in band, celebrity, and tv show posters. I smiled as I recognized a few of my favorite bands and shows. She had a queen-sized bed with a black and grey comforter covering it.
"Here, come pick out something to wear." She said motioning me over to her walk-in closet. I guess these guys had quite a bit of money.
"Here's pajama shirts." She said walking over to a section of clothing and flipping though it before pulling a shirt off of the hook for herself.
I walked over and pulled down a black loose tee shirt with a band name that I didn't recognize on it.
"I'll grab some shorts for us." She said before walking out. I walked out after her and watched as she pulled two pieces of clothing out of a dresser drawer.
"Here, catch." She said tossing a dark blue pair to me. I caught them and examined them for a second.
"I'm not sure if these are going to fit Cynth." I said looking over to her to see the right side of her lips turned up.
"They'll fit. They've got to be a little tight to show off your nice ass to Zack, right?" she said smirking evilly at me.
"Cynthia!" I said with wide eyes as she just laughed.
"Do you want to change in the bathroom or for me to?" she asked and I just shook my head at her.
"I'll change in there." I said laughing a little before ducking into her connected bathroom.
It had a tiled shower in it and a large sink that had a few products spread out over it. I looked into my reflection and held in a laugh at what I saw. My eyes still seemed slightly clouded over and my hair was falling down in wet sections. It was a good thing I decided to not wear eyeliner or mascara or else it would probably be running down my face.
I walked closer to the sink and set the clothes on the counter before splashing my face with water to get rid of the dry pool feeling. I finger combed my hair slightly and changed quickly before looking back into the mirror. The shorts were definitely tight, but Cynthia was right, they did made my butt look good.
I laughed to myself before stepping back out of the bathroom to see Cynthia standing in her pajamas. She smiled at me before grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the room and back downstairs.
The rest of the group was sitting on the large couch talking and messing around. Carly was sitting on Jason's lap and Zack was walking back over from the kitchen. He was wearing a dry pair of red shorts and didn't have shirt on.
Cynthia dropped my hand and walked over to sit on the end of the couch which happened to be right next to Kyle. Zack sat down on the separate couch and patted next to him while looking at me. I walked over and plopped down on the couch. Zack wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer so I was resting against his side and I just smiled up at him before turning my attention to the rest of the group and trying to ignore my arm touching his bare skin.
"How about a movie?" Sammy said smiling.
That boy and his movies.
Everyone agreed, and Cameron switched on the tv and started up Netflix. We searched for a little while before landing on a scary movie. Surprisingly, nobody objected as Cameron hit play and the movie started. Cynthia reached behind her and flipped off the lights as everyone settled in. Kyle stood up and grabbed a few blankets from a larger chest in the room and tossed them around to people.
A big fluffy one was tossed at Zack and I and he caught it with his one hand that wasn't wrapped around me. I grabbed the edge and we shook it out so it covered the both of us. I shifted a little bit and Zack did too so we were more laying down. Everyone quieted as the movie started and paid attention to the screen.
I jumped at one point making Zack laugh and tighten his arm around me slightly but I ended up getting really tired about half way through. My eyes drooped, and I yawned struggling to keep my eyes open. Zack started tracing patters on my skin and that's all it took for me to slowly drift off listening to the sound of the movie playing and Zack's consistent heartbeat.

I kind of don't like this chapter but I haven't uploaded in a few days and I didn't have time to rewrite it. I'm kind of in a block right now. It's not that I don't have ideas, it's just that I haven't really been in a writing mood. Oh well, more hopefully coming soon.

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com!
