When we got over to the boys, my interest peaked.
"What exactly are we doing?" I asked skeptically as Sammy started to unfold a huge white circular object.
"We play this almost every time we come, we blow that up and try to knock the other person you're paired up with off. The winner gets dinner for free and the loser has to blow it up the next time we come." Cody said with a huge grin.
I looked over to Sammy who had completely laid out the huge blow up surface. It was a huge circle that looked like a bullseye and was probably about 8 feet across. Sammy grabbed the electric air pump and started to blow it up. Zack wrapped his arm around my shoulder and leaned down to my ear.
"You're going down." he whispered with a smirk as I hit his chest and rolled my eyes at him with a smile. He turned to talk to Kyle as I walked over to the water next to Eric. He was the quiet one of the group but seemed like he definitely had the most common sense.
"Who won last time?" I asked as he turned and smiled at me.
"It was a tie between Zack and Kyle, so we had to have a sudden death round, but Zack ended up winning." he said looking back over to the boys who were arguing about who was going to win this time. Eric shook his head at them smiling.
"I'm not sure how they haven't scared you off yet, but they sure do enjoy your company. I do too." he said giving me a friendly smile.
"Honestly? I really like hanging around you guys. I haven't had very many friends but you all seem to be pretty amazing people. I heard a lot of rumors that made me want to stay away at first, but everyone kind of made me change my mind once I actually met and hung out with them." I smiled as we watched Sammy struggle with the huge inflatable object.
"Some of the rumors are true, we aren't the best people on earth but we're like brothers. We used to get quite annoyed when somebody started a rumor but we started to actually like them. Some of the stuff I've heard people say is so ridiculous, it's hilarious. Did you know apparently Cody owned a monkey named princess at one point?" he replied and I laughed along with him.
"Really? Wow. The stuff some people will start for attention." I said shaking my head. "Which ones are true?" I asked curiously.
"Which ones have you heard?" he looked down to me with the edges of his lips turned up.

"Well there's the insane ones that are obviously fake but let me think." I said scrunching up my eyebrows trying to think of one that I had heard from Julie.
"Kyle and Cody went and threw an egg at the principal?" I asked.
"True, unfortunately. Or fortunately depending on who you ask. It was one of the first times they did something like that so they only got detention for a week."
"Sammy spilled a milkshake all over the cafeteria floor and licked some up for a dare?"
"Spilled the milkshake? True. Licked it up? False."
"Good, he probably would have gotten a disease from those nasty floors." We both snickered at that one.
"Cody brought a pillow to class and tried to sleep on the floor?"
"Nope, although after he heard that one, he was tempted to actually do it."
"Zack and Kyle smoked weed in the bathrooms and never got caught because they flushed it down the toilet?"
"True."
"What?!" I exclaimed turning to him fully.
"It was last year, somebody found them and tried to get a teacher there but they were too late. They had already flushed it and walked back to class. The principal searched their bags but didn't find anything so nothing else happened." Eric explained. I sighed and laughed a little.
"What happened to the poor kid who tried to tell?"
"They didn't even have to say anything to him, he was practically shaking by the time they were even walking towards him."
I'm sure that poor child was terrified, I know I would have been. I looked up towards the boys as they started cheering as Sammy dragged the heavy bullseye towards the water. Eric nudged my shoulder before smiling down at me.
"It's show time." He said with a wink before we started walking over to join the rest of the group.
"Alright, who wants to go first?" Cody asked and literally everyone but me shouted 'I do!'. Zack picked up an empty bottle from the sand and set it in the middle of the bullseye that was still on the ground.
"Everyone stand around here, we'll pair up this way." He said and everyone shuffled evenly around the circle. Zack spun the bottle and it landed on Cody first and then Eric. We spun until everyone had their partners. The other two pairs were Kyle with Zack and me with Sammy. They decided to let Sammy and I go last so I could watch the first rounds.
We tied a rope to the handle on the inflatable and started to push it out into the water. Everyone stood in the water so we were about hip deep, well more like belly deep for me. Cody and Eric swam and pushed it out as far as the rope would allow before struggling to get on. The rope was so we could make sure the inflatable wouldn't float out too far and get lost forever. Once they were on, Zack recited the rules.

"Alright, now remember the rules. No choking, biting, scratching, bone breaking, eye gouging, hair pulling, spitting, licking, clothes pulling, kicking or punching. Pretty much basic kindergarten rules. Who ever is fully knocked into the water first loses. You guys ready?" he yelled over to the two boys standing shakily while playfullh glaring at each other. They both nodded.
"Remember, champion of the day gets free dinner and the loser has to set up the bullseye next time. Ready...set... fight!" Zack yelled and the two boys immediately started to try and go for each other's legs. They both fell down and then tried to knock each other off. We all cheered while laughing at their priceless faces as they both tried not to lose.
Cody eventually lost his battle as Eric shoved him off into the water. Everyone cheered as Eric stood up and put his hands in the air. Cody swam back to where he could reach the ground and walked to the group from there with a scowl. Kyle clapped his hand on his back and smiled at him.
"Don't worry, you haven't completely lost yet. Redeem yourself next time dude." He said right before Eric made it back over to us. Kyle and Zack then swam over to the floating platform and climbed on. The cycle repeated itself and Zack ended up winning.
They both swam back and Zack high-fived everyone before giving Kyle a bro hug.
"Okay, Sammy and Zoe, you're up." Cody said as he grinned at me. I shook my head and looked over to Sammy who nodded his head over and started making his way over to the bulls-eye. I started to walk in further and then started to swim as the boys closer to the shore cheered. Sam pulled himself up onto the platform right as I reached the edge. I struggled to try and pull myself up for a second before Sam reached his hand down and helped pull me up while laughing.
"Don't worry, I'll go easy." He said with a smirk.
"I won't." I said as I grinned at him, fully knowing that I would probably be flung off the slippery platform before I could even scream.
"You guys ready?" I heard Kyle yell. Sam and I both looked over and nodded before turning back to each other grinning.
"Ready, set, Fight!" one of the boys yelled as Sam and I both jumped forwards and grabbed on to each other's shoulders. Sam tried to get his leg behind mine, but I stepped out of it and tried to push him back further. We both wobbled and were sent flying to the red and white surface.
We both almost slipped off from the fall but managed to both slide back to the middle. Sam grabbed my arms laughing and tried to push me off again, but I just rolled back to the middle. Apparently, Sam decided he was either out of moves or just wanted to annoy me but instead to trying to shove me again, he scooted over and sat on me.
I tried to wiggle away but I swear that boy was eating rocks or something. I heard the slightly muffled laughter from the boys up at shore as I tried again to break free as Sam just kept laughing.
"Is this even fair?" I exclaimed trying to roll away but still stayed trapped.
"If its not mentioned in the rules, it's fair." Sammy said with a cheek splitting grin.
"Well then I guess this is fair then." I said as my hands shot up and attacked his sides making him scream and try to get me off. While he was still struggling, I switched from tickling his sides to putting my hands on his back and shoving him with everything I had. He tried to grab on to something, but it was no use as he was sent into the blue lake water. I heard the boys yell and cheer as I laughed at Sammy's head bobbing up to the surface again. He gasped for air and looked at me with surprise all over his face. I crawled over and held my hand up with a smile. A smile of his own appeared on his face as he reached up and high-fived me. We laughed together for a second before I jumped into the water and we both swam back to the rest of the boys. As soon as we were close enough, everybody started talking.
"Damn Zoe, killin' it out there." Cody said flipping his light brown hair out of his eyes.
"I can't believe she beat you Sammy." Kyle laughed.
"It's not my fault she's sneaky." Sammy said laughing along with everyone else.
Zack walked over and wrapped his arm around my shoulders and smiled down to me.
"You did good out there Kitten, but just because you won once, doesn't mean you'll win against me." He said before Cody started talking again.
"Alright, time for the next round."

Ardent Tears
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge.] Youth is something to be treasured, for it is the foundation upon which all experiences are built. It is also a time when some may Awaken as Ardents or Stoics; individuals who can draw great power from the Resonance of emotions. Rowan’efrii is one such youth, but at what cost? This is the story of her journey; of love and loss, friendship and isolation, fortune and tragedy. What can a girl do when she is faced with all the wonders and horrors that the world has to offer? Live! In the Kingdom of Særis, a group of renegade lords are seeking to enslave young adolescents to forge them into Ardents and Stoics. Those that fall will be used in a war against the Azure King. Will they break Rowan, or will they turn her into the very thing that will destroy them. Ardent Tears focuses heavily on all kinds of relationships including: romantic, familial, platonic and sexual. The MC is a clear example of this, especially as she is poly. Because of this, I gave the story my own Poly Tag. This won't be anything like a Harem story and it is being written by someone who is polyamorous (me). There is also going to be several LGBT themes throughout which can't be represented through Tags. Ardent Tears is now on Top Web Fiction. If you like the story, I'd appreciate it if you give me a boost by following this link and pressing boost. Massive thanks to KrazeKode for the amazing cover art. And special thanks to MelasD and Selkie for the shout-outs.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.

They never called, yet he is here (censored edition)
Introduction:Not every world needs a Summoned Hero, even if it is possible to summon one. No, really! Everywhere, no matter the time, there are always good people who can use glory, power and personal harem themselves. And the one who was summoned? He is just a resource, nothing more… Translation of the original novel by Avada KadavraThe uncensored version is available here.Authors notes:This is just my take on the whole Hero Summoning thing, where a hero happened to survive.Fatal mistake, an error in a well-oiled mechanism that lasted for generations, gave a Hero a tiny chance to decide his own fate. After all, bad guys never expect a Hero to come, yet, the fucker still does.Partially inspired by the series “You summoned the wrong one” by Aitbaev T.A. who was in turn inspired by “Rise of the Shield Hero”.I have to warn you, Aibaev’s work of fiction is pretty out of ordinary, it makes one breath fire, cry until tears turn to blood and laugh to unconsciousness in equal measure.
