《The Man She Betrayed》22. The Test Of Self Control

"How do I look?" I stood in front of my laptop and asked Crystal, whose eyes assessed my body as much as the screen allowed and at last, she gave her approval by giving me a thumbs up. Winking at her, I turned around to set my hair and then sprayed a little amount of my favorite vanilla-scented cologne.
"Don't impregnate someone in the club. Remember, wrap your will-"
"Fuck off." I turned around and scoffed. In return, she just winked at me and continued eating her icecream.
"So is Clara going?" she suddenly asked, increasing the tension in the atmosphere. I sighed at her name and sat down on the bed, pulling the laptop over my lap.
"Yeah. I am supposed to give her a ride. I swear I'll kill Amber for this." I frowned, running my fingers through my hair, giving them a messy look.
"Did she bring that up?" she asked and I immediately knew what she was talking about.
"No." I said.
"And you?" she drew her eyebrows closer.
"Me? What am I supposed to do? Remind her of our so-called marriage like a desperate?" I spat in anger.
"But you can't just ignore the fact that you both are still legally married, no matter how much you try to deny it." she reasoned and although she was right, her words irked me.
"If you have nothing else to talk about, I'm cutting the call." I said. When she didn't say anthing except looking at me with disappointment, I cut the call and put the laptop at my side.
Making my way towards Clara's room, I knocked at the door gently and waited for her to come out. While doing so, I tapped the floor in annoyance at Crystal's word. She wasn't wrong but I would never bring that up. For me, the marriage broke the second she betrayed me and now, she meant nothing to me, let alone my wife.
The opening of door broke the chain of my thoughts. My eyes moved to Clara and I sucked my breath when I saw her dress. The black color looked amazing against her pale skin and the dress hugged all her feminine curves, highlighting her chest. She was wearing minimal makeup and her wild, red hair were hanging around her waist in a natural, messy way.
She had no idea how breathtaking she looked, or maybe she had. Of course she had, Clara knew her effect on people and she knew how to use that.
When I told her that Amber asked me to drive her to club, she turned flustered. Unknowingly, she bit her lips and her action brought my gaze to her plump lips, covered in red lipstick. A desire to kiss them erupted in my heart but I pushed it back.

Not wanting to embarrass myself, I walked forwards without waiting for her to come along. I could hear her footsteps behind me, trying to match my pace and failing miserably.
Without talking to each other, we reached the parking lot where the rented car was parked. I figured it would be better to rent a car for the time we are here. I unlocked the passenger side for her and slid inside the driver seat, starting the engine of the car.
"Thanks, for the ride." her muffled vocie reached my ears and I stopped my eyes from going towards her, in that dress. It was a torture on my self control and Amber knew it, she knew how much I like a woman in plain black dress, without any stupid decoration or pearls.
"Whatever." I said and kept my focus on the road. After a while, I felt her tapping the floor of the car. My eyes moved to her legs without knowing and I let out a deep breath at the sight. Her pale, toned legs were at contrast with the dark material and her flawless skin urged me to run my fingers along them, while I-
Shit. I couldn't be thinking like that. That's what she probably wants, to fuck with my sanity.
The car drive was way more awkward than I initially thought. The interior of the car was charged with tension and the deafening silence just added to it.
When we reached the club, I walked away from her as soon as I saw Amber who was sipping her drink. She might have noticed my frown from the distance because she immediately put away her drink and turned her face to the opposite side.
"What in God's name was that?" I asked once I reached her.
"What?" she asked innocently.
"The suite? The drive?" I glared at her and she glared back.
"See Aaron. You both are single and you both are insanely hot. Wouldn't it be nice if I play cupid for both of you?" she said, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
"No. She and I, it's never gonna happen." I stressed on 'never'.
"You're so stupid Aaron. See, Zac is already trying his luck." she said and my eyes shifted towards Clara's direction where Zac was towering over her, caging her in between the wall and himself. She didn't look comfortable or maybe she was comfortable, I just didn't want to accept that.
"Why is your jaw ticking like a time bomb?" Amber asked from my side and I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever. It doesn't matter to me." I said but it didn't look like she believed me. Grunting in annoyance, I walked towards the other side of the bar and sat down, asking the bartender to make a drink for me.

"Damn." I was chugging the liquor down my throat when I heard Zac's voice. Clara had now walked towards Amber and he took a seat beside me. "Her little black dress makes me want to rip it off her body."
I threw daggers at him with my eyes on hearing that. "What? Don't tell me you don't want to know what's hiding under that tight dress." he smirked and my hands itched to punch him so hard that even his forefathers would feel the blow. But I wasn't stupid, I knew better than making a scene.
"Listen Zac!" I leaned towards him. "I'm your boss and I control most of the postings. If I see you talk shit about Clara again, I'll make sure you never get a job again."
Zac's face twisted at first after which, he replaced the fear with his signature smirk. "Whatever you say, boss. If you're interested in her, you have nothing to fear. I'm not looking anything other than one night of hot, meaningless sex."
His words angered me more and I controlled the immense desire of kicking him in the balls. "Do not talk about her again." I spat and he shrugged, waking away from me to a blonde standing near the entrance.
I sipped my drink, all the while watching Clara who was slowly dancing with Amber, the latter knew how to attract attraction of every other person. Amber was like that, the kind of person who oozes confidence and appeal. Clara was like that too, but now, something had changed. Her moves were subtle and slow, as if she was afraid of letting herself go. There was a striking difference between the girl I married and the girl who worked with me.
'It is just a facade.' I told myself.
I need to divert my mind off Clara.
Turning back towards the bartender, I asked him to pour another drink and looked at my left. "One for the lady too." I said, hinting towards the woman sitting on my left. She was a slim brunette, dressed in a blue strapless dress and black, long strappy heels.
"And you are?" she asked, eyeing me up and down.
"Aaron Vincent." I replied. My eyes once again shifted to Clara and Amber but they were not on the dance floor.
"Mia." she told me her name and smiled at me in a flirting way. I was looking for blowing off some steam and she looked like she was into that. I wasn't someone who preferred one night stands to actual relationships but it couldn't hurt to try once a while when you're single as fuck.
"Do you have anywhere else to go Mia?" I came straight to the point.
"Depends on if you are going to invite me to your place." she smirked and ran her fingers down my arm.
Flashing her a smile, I stood up and pulled my hand out for her. She took it happily and I led her out of the club, but not before looking around in hope of finding Clara.
She was not there. What if Zac tries to take advantage of her? Why do I care? Who knows if she is into him? It's not like she has really high standards.
I tried my best to focus on Mia. Once we reached my car, I pressed her against the door and enveloped her lips into a kiss. Her lips tasted of liquor and she smelled really nice. She reposnded to my kiss eagerly and bit my lower lip, causing me to groan.
Momentarily breaking the kiss, I opened the back door of the car and slid inside, pulling her on top of me so that she was straddling me. Her lips moved to my neck and I angled it, giving her more access.
While doing so, my eyes suddenly caught the sight of a certain redhead leaving the club. She looked drunk, judging my the swaying of her legs. In her inebriated state, she looked around and tried to find someone.
"Focus." Mia whispered in my ears and I reminded myself of her presence. Averting my eyes from Clara, I began kissing Mia's neck and she let out a soft moan. But my gaze once again moved to Clara and when I couldn't see her, I suddenly felt panicked.
Pulling myself away from Mia, I looked around for her in worry. And when I finally found her sitting on the grass at a side, staring at the sky, I let out a sigh.
Relieved, when I shifted my attention back to Mia, she had a huge scowl on her face. "Listen, I am not wasting my time on you. You clearly are more interested in that redhead than me." she said and moved away from the initial position. Rearranging the hem of her dress, she left the car and I let out a frustrated growl.

I know that I take a perspective that many will strongly disagree with, and I'm okay with that. Just be warned that this isn't lighthearted stuff. This is real, and death is real, and this part streaches beyond the fiction into reality. -I'm going to say a minor spoiler, but I don't want it to take you unaware because it is something to be aware of. At one point, my MC attempts suicide and fails. It's a very violent scene and I will put up the gore tag after writing this, and it's also just really depressing. If this will be triggering, you need to be aware of this before you read it. -This is a christian book. It may go against some of your beliefs. I hope that you can read and comment anyway even if some of it does not sit well with you. Credits for the cover go to the user 'Media in Sanity'. Your help and assitance has meant so much to me, God bless you in your writing and your endevours. A proud member of WriTE. I've promised to finish this fiction and update it at least once a month.
