《My Pet Mate》Chapter 34

*Adam's POV*

"How is your control doing?" Ray asked as he refilled my glass of whiskey.

I groaned, "It's fine. Anna helps immensely."

"But?" Ray pressed, making me growl.

"It would help if we completed the bond." I admitted.

Don't get me wrong, I would wait for Anna until the end of time. I just didn't know if the rogue part inside of me agreed.

Ray bit his cheek, "Adam, you know that this isn't healthy. You're still rogue, that part will keep growing no matter what. If you don't complete the mate bond there is still a chance you'll go feral!"

"I don't need to be reminded of that!" I growled.

He was right of course, only a complete mate bond would be able to get rid of the rogue part inside of me. It's just how it worked. Right now I didn't have a pack. When the mate bond is complete, technically it will be a pack of two.

"I'm just trying to help." Ray spoke a lot softer.

I sighed, "I know, sorry. I just don't want to push her. She's had a bad past with that."

Ray nodded, "I understand. How bad is it for you as of now?"

I frowned and bit my lip, "Not that bad. I can feel it getting stronger, but Anna seems to dim it down every time I see her."

"Maybe if you explained it to her?" Ray suggested.

I shook my head, "She's not completing the bond out of fear or pity for me. I can handle it. I've done so for six years."

Ray took a sip of his drink, "The fact that it's been six years makes it more dangerous. If you were to snap, nothing could stop it."

"I won't let it snap." I growled out as I took a sip of my own drink. "I know this all sounds ridiculous but I'm not forcing her into this. I can hold it back a little while longer."

"And how long is she planning on waiting?" Ray questioned.

I looked at the liquid in my hand before chugging it back, "I hope not too long." I said with a sigh.

Ray was about to say something when his eyes glazed over slightly and he started mind linking. He frowned before regaining focus and looking at me, "Apparently, we have to come and check something out in the living room."

I raised an eyebrow, "Why?"

"All Jace said was: 'there is a Luna at work and we had to see it.'" Ray explained.

I shot up from my chair. There is only one Luna on these pack grounds and that's my Luna. I pushed my way through a crowd and started to feel uncomfortable. What if something bad happened again?

I started to hear my mate's angelic voice and calmed slightly, she didn't sound upset or distressed at all. I managed to push myself through the crowd and was met with an interesting sight.

Anna was in front of a large table with a whiteboard behind her. She was talking animatedly as she pointed to the words she had written on it in her graceful handwriting. She then looked at the group of teenagers that sat around the table or had placed a chair from the dining room around her.

She was teaching.

She was teaching an entire class of werewolves right in front of her, and she was doing it with ease and enthusiasm on her face.

I couldn't take my eyes off her, her gentle and encouraging smile as she asked a kid a question and the way she praised him when he got it right.

I sensed Beta Jace and Alpha Ray next to me but didn't move my eyes, "I told you it was worth seeing Alpha." Jace spoke up.

"What is going on?" Ray asked.

"Some students of her were having trouble with her subject. Apparently they have a quiz coming up? So she's tutoring them. Thirty minutes later she has collected an entire class. Seems like more students either had problems with the subject or are just interested in learning from her." Jace explained.

My chest filled with pride as I watched her. She was absolutely stunning. She clearly enjoyed what she was doing and all the kids watched her and were taking notes as she spoke.

"She's a true Luna." Ray spoke up behind me.

I nodded, "She's perfect."

Suddenly, a pang of guilt ran through me. In a normal pack setting like this one, teaching could have become her official job as Luna. But I don't have a pack. She can never reach her full potential as a Luna because of me.

"It's been a long time since the kids had a Luna in front of them." Ray spoke. I was still focused on Anna but I could hear the sorrow in his voice.

One of the kids groaned, "I still don't understand why we have to learn the social structures of Europe."

I was about to set him in his place when Anna spoke up, "Well, it's important to know the differences there can be in social structures. The ones in Europe are different from the ones in America."

"But that doesn't explain why I need to know the ones in Europe specifically. I might never leave the States! Why bother?" the little shit spoke.

Anna didn't seem fazed and sat down on the table in front of her, "You want to be a pack warrior right Zane?"

The kid – Zane – nodded.

"Well, as a pack warrior it's important to know the differences in social structures in general. Every pack is different. This particular pack, for example, doesn't have specific ranks after warrior wolves. But other packs might have different ranks for cooks or cleaners. You should know the differences between these in case you'd ever need to visit a pack alongside your Alpha." Anna explained flawlessly.

"Pack warriors usually stay here when the Alpha goes on a trip though." Zane argued.

"Even more important than! Maybe other packs work differently, so you might be questioning an Alpha when he arrives with pack warriors." Anna spoke.

"The other day an Alpha came by with so many wolves! We thought he was gonna attack." A kid spoke up.

Anna smiled, "See, that is what you assumed. If you had known the different social structures from that pack you might not have been worried or on edge. Each pack works differently. What if you had accidentally said something rude to the Alpha? That would have been bad right?"

Zane reluctantly nodded. "But Germany though, Luna? Why Europe?"

Anna sat up straighter, "I assume your Alpha has connections around the world?"

"He was in Australia a few months ago!" a kid spoke up, "He brought some warriors with him then!" the kid even pointed out.

"There you have it! What if, in ten years, you were allowed to go with your Alpha to protect him? Wouldn't you want to be prepared? Knowing about the pack and country in advance would help. That is why learning this is important." Anna finished.

Zane sighed, "I guess you're right." He then smirked, "Doesn't mean I'm gonna pay better attention during your classes Miss Carter!"

I suppressed the growl that wanted to come out from the address because I knew it was how he would normally call her in class.

Anna didn't miss a beat, "I'm still the one grading your papers."

"You're not allowed to have favoritism!" Zane spoke with a mischievous glint in his eyes, as if he caught her in an illegal act.

"Who said anything about favoritism? I'm just talking about how I'm not the one who needs to pay attention, you do. You're the one who gets a grade young man, not me." Anna spoke with a giggle as she shrugged.

Zane once again groaned and slouched in his seat.

Anna was about to continue her teaching when Ray spoke up, "Ok everyone, class is over for today!"

The kids all looked up in surprise and then started complaining their grades wouldn't go up without Anna's tutoring.

Ray glared around and the kids quieted down, "I said, class is over. Now, go along with your duties for today."

The kids nodded and all got up immediately, scared of their Alpha.

"Oh and Zane?" Zane froze in place and looked at his Alpha, "Run 100 laps around the training fields for disrespecting the Luna. If I hear this behavior happening again I will not be so kind."

Zane gulped and scurried off. When most of the people left, some after giving Anna some kind words, it was just Anna, Ray, Jasper, Fred and Jace again.

Anna smiled at me before turning around and wiping the board clean. Her hair flopped around her body as she did so and I couldn't stop myself from checking out her cute butt.

"You did a great job Luna." Jace was the first one to speak up.

Anna turned around when the board was clean and smiled, "They're my students! It's my job to make them pass!" she then frowned, "Or well, Isaac, John and Zane were my students, I didn't know most of the other kids. Not that I minded of course. The more the merrier!"

I let out a breath as I grabbed her and pulled her closer to me. "You looked happy teaching them."

"I am happy! Teaching has always been my dream job. I wouldn't want to do anything else." Anna responded with that beautiful smile still plastered on her face.

"You're always welcome to come teach here." Ray spoke up, "I think the kids really enjoyed it."

"Thank you! I might. Isaac, John and Zane need the tutoring." Anna said with a chuckle.

Ray nodded and Anna's focus went past him. I followed her gaze to see two students, both who were present at her teaching session just now, bickering and whispering to each other.

Anna left my side and I observed as she approached the students, "You two ok?" She asked them.

The kids nodded, "W-we were wondering, Luna..." The first kid, a boy, asked.

"Wondering what?" Anna parrots as she tilts her head.

"W-would you like to come watch practice? We'd like to show you!" The kid asks.

I bite back a smile as I see Anna's eyes widen, "Sure. I'm here visiting with a friend and we haven't been to the practice fields yet. Can they come along?"

"I-is the Alpha coming too?" The second kid stuttered.

Anna chuckled and she turned around and raised an eyebrow at me. I glanced at Ray who gave Anna a thumbs up. Anna nodded and turned back to the kids, "They will."

I could see the kid gulp, "O-Ok."

Anna pat the kid on the back, "Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be proud of the progress you've made. You're almost ready to advance to the next group right? Isn't that what you told me in class the other day?"

The kid, who I now knew was one of her students, nodded. "Y-yes."

Anna stood straighter, "Well, here is your opportunity to show your Alpha you're ready."

The kid seemed to gain confidence at those words, "You're right. Thanks Luna!"

"Anytime Isaac. Now then, we wouldn't want you to be late, show us the way!" Anna exclaimed before waving us over.

We all joined up and Anna explained to Fred where they were going. Ray sighed besides me, "Maybe I should just get a new Luna..."

I raised an eyebrow, "What Alpha would be willing to give you their Luna?"

Ray shrugged, "I wasn't necessarily suggesting doing that. Maybe I'll just pick a female who has lost their mate. I don't know. I can just see that our pack thrives when there is a Luna present."

I nodded, "I guess. Mine is off limits though." I told him seriously.

"I wouldn't dare." Ray responded with a laugh.

The training itself went pretty well. The kids are talented, I'll give them that. Even if they've been training without their Gamma for a bit now. I could see their tense postures though. Two Alpha's and a Luna watching them train can be quite stressful.

Personally, I used to do most of the classes back in our pack. I loved training the kids and seeing them grow. I guess Anna and I were similar in that aspect. We both loved teaching.

'I can't wait till we can teach our own pups.' Cade linked with a purr.

I smiled, 'Me neither.'

Fred had calmed down a lot once we got to dinner. Seeing training was interesting for her. Having teens train to kill isn't something humans would consider normal, but in the werewolf world it was often necessary.

Anna and Jasper had reassured her though, and the rest of the pack dynamic made her more relaxed as well.

The kitchen cooks had cooked us a whole feast once we got back to the pack house. Anna had invited the kids and her colleague and his wife. So it was packed, but cozy.

I was reminded of my own pack a lot. We used to have big dinners every night, with all of my family and friends. Whenever pack members had something to celebrate they were allowed to join us at the table, and we'd listen to their stories and achievements.

I wonder... how would it have been if they were still alive. Would I have found Anna? Would she like my parents? Would she like Noah and his mate?

I was shot from my thoughts when Anna grabbed my hand under the table. I looked at her, sitting next to me. 'Are you ok?'

---

"I can't wait for you to meet your mate Adam. I bet she'll be an absolute vision."

"I hope so, mom."

"I know so. She'll be a great mate, and a great Luna. I can feel it. And she'll be with you whenever you need her."

---

I squeezed Anna's hand, 'I'm good.'

Anna nodded before she looked back at Fred, who had asked her a question.

As long as I have her. I'll be fine.
