《My Pet Mate》Chapter 3

*Annabelle's POV*

I woke up to my 6AM alarm and put it on snooze. I usually got out of bed around 7, but it took a while for me to wake up, so I had an alarm set every 10 minutes after 6. It was the only way I could make myself presentable enough for the kids.

I snuggled back into my pillow and relaxed, until I heard a groan beside me. My head shot up and I looked over my shoulder. There was a man in my bed. A muscular, adult, naked man.

I screamed. I don't think I've ever screamed as loud as I had right now. The man shot up and frantically looked around the room before making eye contact. "Shit." He mumbled, his voice deep and still full of sleep.

I screamed even louder and the guy flinched, "H-hey stop that. Stop screaming. I- I can explain!" The guy started rambling.

"Oh you better explain mister!" the fear suddenly left me and was replaced by anger, "What and how are you in my apartment? And why in my bed? And why are you naked?"

The guy looked down for a second before making eye contact again, "Now there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this, I promis-"

"I'm calling the police!" I grabbed my phone off my desk but it was snatched from my hands before I could even unlock it.

"Please don't!"

"Give me back my phone! I will fight you!" I yelled as I held up a fist.

I could see an amused twinkle in the man's eyes. "I would like to see that."

I didn't hesitate as I threw a punch, which the guy caught. I kept trying to punch the guy, which to remind you, was still completely naked. He easily blocked my punches, before yelling out, "Ok, stop!"

"Get out of my house you weirdo!" I yelled at him as I continued my punches.

"I'm your dog!" The guy yelled.

I froze and looked at the man with disbelief. Did he really just suggest he was my dog? "What?"

"I-I'm your... d-dog." He mumbled this time.

I created some distance between us. Ok, so this guy was completely nuts. He must be some crazy homeless person who managed to break into my house. Maybe he's an escaped convict. I decided to take a good look at him, medium length, wavy black hair that hung on his shoulders, an unkept beard covered his face. He definitely looked like a homeless person. I quickly glanced down, spotting his upper body. That body of his did not look like a homeless person's body. It was muscular and incredibly good looking. I didn't dare to look below his waist, so I looked back up into the man's eyes.

I then looked around my room. Speaking of my dog, Hunter was nowhere to be seen. I carefully stood up and shuffled towards the living room, keeping my eyes on the man at all times. He remained frozen on my bed, but followed my every movement.

As soon as I reached the door I shot out and frantically looked for Hunter. "Hunter where are you? Come here boy?" I whispered as I looked underneath the couch. Hunter wouldn't have been able to hide under there, but I tried anyway.

"It's actually Adam. And I'm right here." I jumped when the man spoke up. He was standing in the doorway, still naked. I hadn't realized how big he was. He must have been around 6ft!

"Don't you have any clothes?"

A smirk made its way onto the man- Adam's face. "What? You don't like what you see?"

I narrowed my eyes at him and walked towards the kitchen to resume my search. "Where is that damn dog?"

"I told you, I'm the 'damn dog'." Adam spoke again.

I looked up at him, "Ok, sir, you're clearly confused. If you'd just give me back my phone I can call someone? Which institution are you from?" I asked in a sweet voice, trying a different approach.

Adam looked at me as if I was crazy, "I'm not delusional. I'm telling the truth."

I sighed, "Sure you are, and I can fly!" I looked around the kitchen again, "What have you done with my dog? Did you kill him? Because I paid 125 dollars for him and I will sure as hell not let him get away like that."

Adam grinned, "I like you being possessive over me." he spoke creating a weirdly warm feeling in my body, "and like I said I'm the dog. I haven't done anything to him, I am him."

I let out a breath, "Great. He's crazy." I whispered.

"I'm not crazy!" Adam responded.

I looked at him, "Then what are you? Humans don't turn into dogs!"

"Humans don't. Werewolves do." Adam attempted to explain.

I raised an eyebrow, "Honey, I'm 23 years old. I got over my Twilight phase."

Adam sighed, "I can prove it."

"How?"

"Sit down on the couch. I'll shift back into wolf form." Adam spoke.

I gulped. He wanted to transform in front of me. This guy was seriously nuts.

Adam seemed to notice my hesitation, "Come on. If you're not convinced after that I'll leave and never come back. You can even call the police and let them arrest me."

I frowned, he was offering to be arrested? I let out a shake sigh, "O-ok."

I walked over to the couch. Adam stood in front of me, still naked if I might add.

"Now, whatever you do. Don't run and don't scream." Adam said.

I just gave him a nod. Then, something happened that would change my life forever. In front of me, Adam actually started to change. He sprouted fur and I heard his bones break. And suddenly, Hunter was in front of me.

I pushed myself into the couch, "Holy shit." I whispered.

Hunter cocked his head to the side and I just now noticed how Adam's eyes were the same bright blue. Hunter then changed back into Adam and I was basically hyper ventilating.

"Believe me now?" Adam asked in a calm tone.

"H-how w-what?" I managed to get out.

Adam sighed, "I'm sorry love, I never meant for it to go this way." I frowned at his endearment, "Like I said, I'm a werewolf. I was captured by that dammed dog catcher and put in the shelter. Usually, werewolves don't expose themselves to humans so I decided that the best course of action was just to wait it out." A smile made its way onto his face, "Then I met you, and I knew you were the one."

"The one to help you escape?" I asked, trying to hide the fact that there were butterflies in my stomach. Come on Anna! He's a bloody werewolf why are you feeling like this?

Adam shrugged, "I suppose. But I actually liked the idea of staying with you."

I raised an eyebrow, "You were planning to leech off me?" realization hit me, "Wait a minute! You watched me change last night you pervert!"

Adam grinned, "Sorry, couldn't resist."

I was about to yell at him when my second alarm went off. Adam had placed my phone on the coffee table and I turned it off.

"How many alarms do you have?"

"None of your business." I mumbled back. I looked at him and flinched as I saw that he was still naked. "Can you please put something on!"

Adam smirked, "What? You already saw me pee yesterday."

"You were a dog!" I defended.

"Wolf. I'm a wolf. Werewolf. Dog sounds degrading." Adam looked annoyed.

I rolled my eyes, "Says the guy who was planning to become my pet for the rest of his life."

Adam sighed, "I wasn't planning to leech of you. I didn't know how to tell you."

"So you decided to just transform while I was sleeping and lay naked in my bed?"

"No. I didn't mean to shift. I've been in wolf form for a while now. I suppose my body was just sick of the fur. I shifted without my knowledge." Adam explained.

I put my head in my hands. "Great." I heard Adam leave and he returned a little bit later with a towel on his hips, covering his junk at least. My eyes flew to his abs. For a guy who has been sleeping in a cage for a month he sure as hell looked good.

"Like what you see?" Adam asked with a grin.

"N-No! just wondering what I should do with you." I tried to cover for myself.

"Oh I know plenty of things for us to do." His grin widened.

"Pervert!" Adam chuckled, and a warm, fuzzy feeling fell over me. His laugh his beautiful. Wait what? I shook myself from my thoughts, "Seriously, what am I supposed to do with you?"

Adam sat down in the lounge chair, "I don't know. Keep me?"

"And you said the word dog is degrading." I said sarcastically.

Adam smiled, "Listen, this was never my plan ok? But I like you, and if you don't mind. I'd like to stay. Before I was captured I was rogue, so I don't have a family or anything to go back to."

I blinked, "You're all alone?"

Adam nodded, "Yeah." That's kind of sad. "I can get a job if you want. Help out with the costs. Or I can do housework. Though I'm not good at that." He mumbled the last part.

"Oh yeah, and how am I supposed to explain that to my friends? 'So remember my dog? This is him now? A man living in my house. Meet Adam!'" I said in a mocking tone.

"Well then I'll pretend to be your dog whenever your friends come over. I don't mind. I was just saying I don't want to come off as a leech. I'm willing to help out if you let me stay." Adam explained.

I gave him another look. Ok. So there is a man, who can transform into a dog, and he wants to stay in your house. What if he's a thief? I'm at work most of my days. Then again, if he was a thief he could have run off with my shit last night while I was asleep. What if he's a murderer though? Again, he probably would have bitten my head off before now. I sighed, "I suppose I did pay 125 dollar for you. Would be a waste to let that go."

Adam grinned, "I'm already growing on you."

I snorted and decided to make a very questionable decision, "Fine. You can stay. But no one gets to know about this. You'll act like my dog whenever my friends come over or when we go outside. My neighbors have already seen me with a dog they can't know there is a man living here."

His eyes lit up, "Thank you so much! You won't regret it."

"I better not." I muttered. I looked at the clock, my third alarm was about to go off. But I was already wide awake. "I'm gonna take a shower and get ready for work. Stay out of my bathroom, and don't go stealing my stuff." I said with narrowed eyed.

Adam smirked, "Yes ma'am." He said but I could see the mischief in his eyes.

"I can still kick you out at any second. Remember that!" I said as I ran to my room to get clothes. After that I locked myself in the bathroom.

---

I snuck out of the bathroom 30 minutes later. I went back into my room to prepare for work and searched my closet for anything Adam could wear. I found some loose sweatpants and hoped they'd fit.

As I entered the kitchen the smell of bacon and eggs greeted me. Adam's eyes lit up as he saw me, "I made breakfast!" He spoke with pride.

I held back a smile and thanked him. I held out the sweatpants, "I don't know if they'll fit but it's the biggest thing I have. Do you have any clothes back at an apartment somewhere? Or do you need to buy new ones?"

Adam grabbed the pants, "Thanks. Not really. I lived in the woods. There are probably still some clothes in my den, but I don't know what condition those are in."

"You lived in a cave?" I exclaimed.

Adam shrugged, "Told you I didn't have another place to stay."

So the guy really was homeless.

Adam sat down at the breakfast table and put down two plates. I sat down across from him and observed him as he dug into his food. "Now I get why you wanted my burger last night."

Adam chuckled, "My wolf prefers raw meat. But that burger looked great last night."

"Your wolf?" I questioned.

Adam nodded, "Yeah. So werewolves have a human and a wolf side. They are basically the same thing but there are slight differences."

"So is it like multiple personality disorder?"

"No. Uh... I don't know how to explain it. He's just there. We're the same yet different. He's me but more animalistic and I'm him but more human." Adam explained.

I frowned, "You can talk to him?"

"Yup. Yesterday you talked to him the entire time. That wasn't me. He's in control when we've shifted."

"Huh..." I absentmindedly picked at my food. "But you do know what happened yesterday?"

"Yeah. Like I said. We're one and the same. It's like I watch from the background. He's watching right now." Adam said with a smile.

"Interesting" I mumbled. It was silent for a bit, both of us just eating breakfast. "So, I assume you're not 4 years old."

Adam snorted, which reminded me that he did the same thing yesterday. "No, I'm 26 years old."

I nodded, picking up my plate to wash it. Adam offered to do it but I turned his offer down and grabbed his plate as well. He stood up and got a towel, drying the washed plates.

"It's a lot to take in." I mumbled.

"I bet." Adam replied, "Sorry for dropping all this on you."

I smiled, "It's fine I guess. Like I said, just need to get used to it." I turned off the water, "I suppose the loneliness issue is solved."

"Loneliness?" Adam asked as he put the dried pan away.

I nodded, "That's the reason I bought you- or well, the dog."

"Wolf."

"Whatever." I grinned at him, "I've never lived on my own before so I was getting lonely in my apartment. My sister suggested I'd get a pet. So, here you are."

Adam chuckled, "Your pet. What a title."

I chuckled too, "I guess you've been upgraded to housemate now."

Adam frowned slightly and I saw him mouth the word 'mate'.

I looked at the clock, was I really going to leave this guy here? I guess I am. "I should leave for work. I'll be home around 4:30. You can take a shower and stuff."

Adam nodded and smiled, "I promise I won't steal anything."

I narrowed my eyes at him, "You better not!" I grabbed my bag, "When I get home we can maybe check out your cave? I have to walk my dog after all." I said with a smirk.

Adam smiled back, "Sure, sounds good."

I nodded and walked over to the door. "Ok. Don't steal my stuff and make yourself at home I guess." I spoke. He told me goodbye and I closed the door.

My life just got a whole lot weirder.
