Chapter 22
Marissa’s POV
I sat awkwardly eating, I could feel his eyes watching my every movement, hence the reason my eyes were glued to the tray so I didn’t have to look at him. “So Marissa what have you been up too?” he asked too politely.
“Nothing” came my short and harsh answer. “Can I talk too you for a second?” he asked. I looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, where did he think he was getting with another talk. Every time we talk it’s always the same. I forgive him and say we can be friends and then he does some shitty move again to make me mad. I can never win when it comes to Zane.
“Then talk” I said taking another bite of my sandwich. I wasn’t going to give him privacy, because I knew he wouldn’t say it with Sean around. “No I need to talk to you alone please” he pleaded, his tone was almost begging. I felt my face soften a fraction, I groaned on the inside. I didn’t want to go through the same thing again.
“Fine Zane” I grumbled unhappily while getting up. I walked out of the cafeteria and braced myself against the doors, waiting for him to catch up. “Marissa that day we talked we said we would just be friends and try that out” I nodded and waited for him to continue.
“I just had something come up at last minute, we could always reschedule that” I cocked an eyebrow at him, that’s what he wanted to talk to me about? To make other plans with me. “We said we would try and get along and stuff so let’s try that for once, I hate that we’re always at each other’s throats.” His voice held raw honesty and I was leaning on giving him another chance.
“I guess your right I had no right to be jealous of the girl since we are just friends” I sighed and admitted. He could do what he wanted and I had no right to interfere. “No I didn’t mean it like that, and she was nothing- I held up my hand and cut him off there.
“you don’t owe me an explanation so don’t bother. Let’s just forget about that” I said dismissing it. I had a date with Alex tonight and I was still excited, so almost nothing could ruin my mood. “So wanna hang out tonight then?” he asked. My insides clenched, I hated when I had too tell him I was going out with Alex because I know how it hurts.
“Uh I already have plans for tonight, what about tomorrow” I asked praying he wouldn’t ask who and what I'm doing. “Oh what are you doing tonight?” he asked casually but I caught the little hint of jealousy in his voice.
“I have to go out with Alex” I mumbled, I couldn’t meet his eyes as I said it so I looked down at my old shoes, I really needed to get some new ones.
“Oh well how yea tomorrow sounds good then, I’ll talk to you later” he said before brushing past me and walking back into the cafeteria that was kind of rude of him.
I looked back at the cafeteria doors that he just walked through, I didn’t bother following him, I just went straight to my locker instead to get my books for the next class.
The rest of the school day was so normal that it was boring, I only got Sean and Kyle for a few minutes after lunch in the halls. We didn’t have any more classes together and it sucked. I had to sit in a desk and listen to the teacher try and teach stuff that I already knew.

After what seemed like days the final bell rang. I walked out to the parking lot, and then I remembered I got a ride with Kyle this morning. I was either walking home or catching a ride. But knowing Kyle he was at football practice and I had no idea where Sean was so I decided to save the time of finding someone and I just started walking.
I sighed and began the long half an hour walk home. If I walked fast enough then it would be half an hour, if I walked at a slow normal paste then it would probably take me like forty-five minutes. We just had to live in some little secluded area where nothing was around. I really needed to get myself a car, I thought I didn’t need one well now I do.
About ten minutes into walking a black car slowed down to the past I was walking at, I looked over a little confused too see Sean in the drivers side window. “I didn’t know you didn’t have a ride or else I would have told you to ride with me” he said flashing me a smile. I smiled back, it felt like I haven’t talked to him in ages.
“Get in” he said stopping on the side. I nodded and got in the passenger seat. “So what are you doing tonight, I hear you have some sort of a date” he asked casually, the thought just brought a smile too my face. I was so excited for tonight. “Yea I met someone when I went out with my brother and we ended up setting up a date” I said.
“Good, I haven’t seen you in so long though I wish we could of hung out tonight” he added with a small frown on his face. “I know, tomorrow’s Saturday so I don’t think I have much too do. we can hang out then” truth was I really wanted to hang out with Sean, he was like the turning point after I got rejected. He was like the first friend I had that was nice to me and stuck up for me. I was extremely lucky to have bumped into him that day; otherwise I might not know him like now.
I looked over at him and smiled, his blue eyes shone brightly and his short brown hair was tousled all over his head. As if he could sense me looking at him he looked at me and shot me a wink. He was seriously a cute boy, to the lucky wolf who has him as a mate she better take care of him.
“yea tomorrow sounds good, I’ll help you get ready tonight though, since you don’t really hang out with any girls you’ll have to make do with me’ he said making me laugh. I could imagine him helping me, it would take a lot longer but it would also be a lot funnier.
We pulled up at the pack house in what seemed like no time at all, it was a hell of a lot faster than my walking. I hoped out of the car and ran into the house. It was starting to get cold outside and I needed to layer myself better.
As soon as I walked in the door I saw Zane and Claire sitting on the couch watching something, it then saw my brother walk in the room with some food. “I thought you guys had football practice or something” I asked, if they didn’t then that meant that neither did Kyle, which means he should be here.

“Uh kinda, it was only for some of the guys but not us” he said pointing to himself and Zane. “Oh Ok” I said before walking up the stairs. I made it a point not to look at Zane, if he wanted to talk to me or say something then he could come say it. I wasn’t going to be the ones making plans for tomorrow when he was the one who brought it up in the first place.
I walked into my room and then straight into the bathroom, it was about four now and Alex was picking me up at six. I had no idea what we were doing tonight but I will leave that to him, as long as we’re together then I'm sure we’ll have a good time.
I took a quick shower and put on some sweats and a t-shirt, first I had the mission of finding something nice to wear. I never really cared what people thought about me so I didn’t make a point of buying a lot of dressy clothes. I did end up finding some nice black jeans with a sparkly purple tank top. I could put a black leather jacket over it and some purple flats. That’s exactly what I did and it looked great, it was also comfortable and warm.
I ended up straightening my hair because it was the fastest and easiest thing to do. I put on some eyeliner and some lip gloss for the finishing touch. I like how I looked when I was done. I then remembered how Sean told me he was going to help me get ready, well so much for that. I looked in the mirror and nodded, that whole process had only taken me like a half an hour. I had a lot of time to kill now.
Just as I was about to walk out my room I walked right into Sean. “What are you doing? Get back in that room” he said gently pushing me back in. “what?’ I asked confused. “I said I was helping you and although you look beautiful you can look a lot better.” he said before walking into my closet.
I couldn’t help but laugh, he was so into it and it was funny. But the time we were done with his hour and half make over I was completely transformed of what I had on. he had chosen a pair or ripped and faded blue jeans with a fitted black long sleeve, with some long flat black boots. My jacket was a simple grey cargo jacket. My hair was curled and all he added onto my makeup was eye shadow.
He knew I wouldn’t ever wear a dress because I would feel so over dressed and I wouldn’t be able to do anything. This way I looked beautiful and I was in pants and moveable clothes. I had nothing against dresses but I only wore them on special occasions.
Sean looked at me with a happy smile on my face and all I could do was laugh and pull him into a hug. “Thank you” I added while I pulled away. “You’re welcome, I'm sure Alex will appreciate it” he added before we walked down stairs.
The first thing I noticed when I came down stairs was that there was another girl on the couch, none other than Cassidy. I didn’t have a problem with Claire being over here anymore because I got use too it, plus she stopped with the comments so I didn’t care if she was here now. But Cassidy I did mind, I still hated her.
She needed to learn to be nice to people. They all looked at me as I walked down the stairs. I noticed how Zane’s eyes lingered on me longer than the rest of them, making a smirk grow on my face. Nice to know he likes what he sees.
“Where you going like that sis?” Derek asked. “Out with Alex” I answered happily. “Well he must be desperate” I heard Cassidy mumble making me narrow my eyes. “Well not desperate enough to ever go out with someone like you” I shot back; I guess I kind of had a short temper. I snapped at people kind of fast, but I guess that was because I finally had enough of the teasing.
I had changed a lot in the last couple of months, it all started with Zane rejecting me. but that didn’t entirely turn out bad. Cassidy simply glared at me before turning back to the TV. Zane got up from the couch just as the door opened and in walked a sweaty and dirty Kyle, He looked exhausted.
“Ready already?” he asked. “Yea Alex is picking me up a six so a couple minutes” I answered while looking at him. It looked like he had quite a work out there. His dirty blond hair was wet with sweat and lined with dirt. The school bag hung off his back; you could see that he just wanted to go to sleep now.
“Well good luck with that and you look beautiful” he said with a smile. “Thanks’ I responded. He already had started walking up the stairs, well more like dragging himself up the stairs.
Zane walked over to me and simply stared. I didn’t know what he found so interesting but he never said a word yet. He opened his mouth to say something but the doorbell rang. I walked over to it excitedly and opened it.
A handsome Alex was on the other side. he was dressed in a blue long sleeve with a black jacket along with some dark washed blue jeans. He wore a excited smile on his face that only made me want to smile bigger. I heard a growl from behind me and I automatically knew who it would be.
I turned around with a tired expression on my face and looked at Zane. ‘Don’t do that, you have no right’ I reminded him through the mind link. I haven’t used that thing in a while because I don’t really like too. Kyle and Sean were out of range when they were away and they were like the only person I would even want to contact.
Zane didn’t reply to that, he simply glared at Alex. “Well I'm going to be going now.” I said. I looked over at Sean before walking out the door and saw that he had a big smile on his face, he was happy for me and that was good. He did help me out after all. I mouthed a ‘thank you’ before taking Alex’s hand that he offered and closing the door behind me.
Time for a good night.
