"Please send an ambulance! She was hurt! Her head is bleeding and I think her back—please help us!!" Charlie shouted out. He was desperately trying to hold onto his sanity during this situation. He leaned towards her and tried accessing her wounds. But he didn't want to move her.

When he looked around the other guys were gone. He was crying, shaking in the spot, hoping that she would be alright.

She had to be okay.

When the ambulance arrived they put a brace around her neck and gave her some morphine. They accessed her body before putting her on a stretcher. She was rushed to the hospital.

"Young man, are you her relative?" he was at a loss for words.

"No, I mean, yes... she was my grandfather's friend... I just..."

"It's okay, calm down for now... we need to contact her immediate family... how do we reach them?"

"I don't know... I don't know... Nathan... I can call Nathan," the paramedic nodded and Charlie grabbed his phone that was in his back pocket. His hands were trembling as he dialed Nathan's number. When Nathan picked up he and Kai were still at his school, trying to find out about his whereabouts...

"What happened?! Alright, Charlie, please relax... calmly explain the situation... okay... alright... and which hospital? Okay, we will be there..." Nathan asked the driver to head to the specific hospital.

"What happened, Nathan?"

"Your brother was involved in an incident and Hazel had to be rushed to the hospital."

"What do you mean?" Kai's heart sunk a little at the news. What had been going on with her? He noticed there was something on her mind of late, but he never pressed her because it wasn't his concern, but now...

"As fast as possible! I need you to call James. I need to make a few calls," Kai nodded, taking out his phone.

At the hospital, Charlie was sitting outside the OR.

Kai and Nathan were the first to arrive. Kai raced towards Charlie when he saw blood all over his uniform. He reached his arms out to hold onto Charlie's shoulders, looking for the origin of his wounds.

"Who did this?" he couldn't see where the blood was coming from.

"It was... I... this was my fault, she was just protecting me..." Charlie leaned forward, holding onto his head, rocking lightly back and forth.

"It's okay... just tell us what happened..." Kai pat Charlie's back arm and slowly Charlie explained the situation. About the first altercation and the next. He was taken during the last period to wait for her to finish work.

They had it all arranged after investigating her. Charlie detailed about what happened during the fight. Her arm and then the stainless steel rod that was going to hit him. But she stepped in.

"If she... if she... if something happens I won't be able to forgive myself..." he continued to cry and Nathan sat beside him, gently patting his back.

"It's going to be alright. Nothing bad has happened to her yet. She will be fine."

At that moment, James was rushing forward. He saw the blood and reacted just as Kai did.

"It's... it's not my blood..." James looked wide-eyed at Kai.

Nathan motioned for Kai to update James on the situation and Kai pulled him aside. After he told him everything, James held onto his forehead. He walked over to the nearest resting area and sat down.

"Don't tell me... you also knew about this?"

"To a certain extent."

"Then why did you keep it to yourself?"

"I could hardly get him to speak to me. How would you have made a difference? I shouldn't have spoken to her that way... now that she got herself in this situation. I'm partly to blame."

Kai and James kept quiet among each other. Both of their thoughts were whirling around. Kai sat next to James, thinking about how this was equally at fault.

He knew, as soon as he saw her dedicated to 'proving him wrong,' at the company that she had a sense of justice. Kai had watched her with endless commitment... when she spent time with Ravenwolf employees and even stayed up late most nights to the point of exhaustion. He remembered seeing her late in the office and thinking about his own actions...

He did whatever he could behind the scenes to alleviate some guilt he felt for putting her in the situation he did. Placing a blanket over her while she slept and watching over her when he could.

There were times when he could have been more understanding but he chose not to. He wanted to keep a distance, but she kept getting closer to him. In the elevator, in the car, when she nearly fell off of the ladder, or when he kept seeing her around the house.

Each time he saw her the original 'hate,' he had for her dissolved, and that didn't settle well with him because he still didn't understand why she would put herself through all of this...

He didn't want to trust her because trusting her would mean that he understood where his grandfather was coming from, which was still a mystery to begin with.

However, the closer he got to her, the more moved he was by her.

When he didn't see her, he wanted to see her. When he pushed her away, there was regret and he couldn't understand why. The times he did have with her, he didn't know what else to say to keep her in his company because she looked unsure of his motives...

When he was passing by the meditation garden one day, he saw her with the puppy and Mackenzie. She was smiling, so effortlessly, and happily. He had never seen that before. Her expression was captivating and he thought about, even for a second, about how a person like that... who could smile so brightly like that wouldn't have any ill intentions...

Kai shook his head, thinking that he needed to put his attention on what mattered.

He was shocked and worried about her... which as a human being, was something he should do for another person... but in this case, he couldn't shake off the sinking feeling he got when Nathan told him about her... thinking that she could be gone in an instant, compared to when he first met her, was an indescribable feeling...

"We need to ensure that those that did this pay for hurting them..."

"Nathan is already on this matter..." Kai spoke, sighing.

"I'll reach out to Jackson. You should go back first," James said while patting Kai's shoulder.

While on his way back, Kai couldn't believe how things were developing. He had no idea what he would say to her when she woke up...

When Kai returned back to Nathan and Charlie, he sat beside Charlie. Nathan was still patting Charlie's back, reassuring him that everything would be okay.

"I think we should tell her family, Nathan..."

"That won't be necessary."

"What do you mean?" Kai asked, perplexed at the thought. She came here on her own will, but she definitely had people in her life that would worry about her.

"She only has a close friend that she had mutually agreed with me on not talking about her time here at Ravenwolf and a distant relative... an aunt I believe she said... that she doesn't stay in contact with..."

Kai looked at Nathan a little taken aback by this news. She didn't have any living relatives besides an aunt? He wondered about who she was exactly... the more he thought about where she came from, the more he realized he was becoming more invested in getting to know her, beyond what he initially thought of.

When he first met her at the mansion, he realized that he must have frightened her. Given her a negative impression of him. She was wearing his late grandmother's bracelet, so it shocked him. Given the meaning behind the bracelet.

When he kept seeing her after the reveal of his grandfather's will, he thought there was something more going on, but he had to second guess that even now. What were her motives? It just seemed odd to him the more he got to know her. There was definitely a rational explanation... now wasn't the time to talk about it. But, even still, there was something...

After an hour, the ER doctor came out to greet them and let them know about her condition. She had no serious injuries to her neck or spine, but part of the steel rod broke into the skin on her head and she had a laceration. She had a lot of external bruising and inflammation. So when she woke up she would be in pain. She would need a lot of pain killers for the next few days and a lot of sleep.

She would only need to stay for the night for observation. Luckily she didn't get a concussion either. There were no immediate dangers on the scans they did, but just in case, they would check once again before her discharge.

"She'll seem a little out of it when she's in recovery. You'll be able to see her, but she's been given a sedative. Other than that, she was lucky. If that blunt object had been aimed at a straighter angle, anyone would have experienced more trauma to the head..."

"Thanks, Doc," Nathan said. "And when can we see her?"

"She'll definitely be up in another hour when the anesthesia wears off. Just wait for the nurse to call you. She'll escort you to see her..."

"Thank you... thank you..." Charlie added and the Doctor nodded before leaving. Nathan exhaled, in relief. James arrived, after having spoken to Jackson. He had also gathered more information, just as Nathan requested of him.

"Nathan, I'll be needing your help regarding some matters."

"Yes of course... time is of the essence..." Nathan then left with James.

Charlie and Kai sat beside one another quietly.

"I don't know if you remember this... but when you were younger, when you thought you were going to get in trouble with our parents you used to run to me. Hiding behind my back and hugging onto my leg..."

Charlie blushed a little. He held onto his head and looked over at Kai.

"I... did I do that?"

"You would have been really young... probably about five or six years old... you also used to sleep in my bed whenever you had any nightmares..."

"I... think I remember that... you also gave me one of your teddy bears that mom and dad got you when they vacationed in California..." Kai nodded and Charlie sighed.

"I'm sorry... I just... I didn't know how to talk to you guys about it. It's just been so long since we... you know... had a conversation..." Kai nodded and reached over to pat Charlie's shoulder.

"Next time you can tell me or anyone of us anything. You're still our younger brother no matter how old you are, alright?" Charlie turned to Kai and the two of them sincerely smiled at one another. How long had it been since they spoke like this?

Kai wiped Charlie's tear that was streaming down his cheek.

"We're sorry too... for not being there for you..."

Charlie hesitated momentarily, but then leaned in towards Kai and Kai opened his arms and hugged him.

The two of them continued to wait for news about Hazel in the waiting room...
