《An Heir's Forbidden Love》Ch29.

sitting by the poolside outside the house sipping my red wine while staring at the night stars, it is a beautiful sight. At that moment, an image flashed through my mind.

I'm laying on the floor at the rooftop of the house gazing at the stars, someone is laying beside me, it's a lady resting her head on my chest.

The lady looks vaguely familiar but before I could go deeper into the image, it was gone as fast as it came. I groan into my palm when I felt a sharp splitting headache and waited till the pain subsided, I raise my head at the sound of high heels clicking on the floor. I didn't even know when she drove in, I stand up from where I am sitting ready to confront her.

She walks up to me and gives me a chaste hug which I didn't return. I cringe when she gave me a peck on the lips, gosh! She reeks of alcohol but thank goodness she looks sober enough. "Did I keep you waiting? I'm so sorry..."

"Why did you go into Sasha's room to pick up something that doesn't belong to you?" I cut in.

Her eyes widens in surprise but she was quick to turn on her poker face. "What are you talking about Jace?"

"You know what I'm talking about Cassandra, where is the photograph?" I demand already getting impatient.

"I said I have no idea what you're talking about." She yell furiously and try walking away from me but I was quick to grab her arm.

She swirls around to face me angrily, she's so angry that I can see the steam coming out of her ears and nostrils. "Let go of me."

"Not until you provide what I'm looking for." I don't have time for all this, I just want to see what Sasha wanted me to see.

She forcibly yanks her arm from my grip, her bag falls from her shoulder in the process and all the contents in it spills out. My eyes land on the back of the photograph I have been searching for all these while laying amidst her countless makeup products and all other stuffs.

I pick it up and stare at what was written at the back.

My one and only.

"Give it back!" Cassie gasps and tries to pry it from my hand but cowers in fear as I give her my hardest glare.

I need to see what the hell the picture is that is so important that even Cassie had to hide it from me.

My eyes knit in confusion when I saw that it's a picture of Sasha and me. In the picture, I am hugging her from behind with a goofy grin plastered on my face while she is staring at me with a look I can't decipher but it's close to adoration? What is going on? I wonder as I turn the picture around and my eyes land on the neatly written date I didn't notice before.

"What is this Cassie?"

"Why are you asking me? Why don't you go and ask your mom?" She huffs and walks away leaving her things behind.

Isilently dare the secretary to try to stop me as I storm to my mom's office, I barge into the office without knocking and see that she is in the middle of a heated discussion with a guy who looks like he's about to piss in his pants.

She pause mid-sentence to look at the person who dare barge into her office like that but was surprised to see me. "J-Jace? What are you doing here?"

"I need to talk to you mom."

She scrutinizes me for a few seconds before turning to the man she has been speaking with. "Excuse us, Jillian, let's have this discussion some other time."

"A-Alright m-ma'am." The guy stutters nervously and leaves the office.

"Why did you barge into my office like that? You didn't even tell me you're coming?"

"I need to talk to you."

"This better be good."

"What happened between Sasha and me that you didn't tell me?"

She peers up at me in surprise. "I don't understand what you're talking about."

"Really?" I bring out the photograph from my pocket and drop it on her table. "How about now?"

She studies the picture for a while before looking back at me with disappointment evident on her face. "Did you interrupt my work just because of this girl?"

"Just tell me what you have been hiding dammit!" I growl in frustration.

"Fine! She is our maid whom you dated against my wish a few months ago." She shrugs.

"What! B-but you told me Cassie and I..."

I was saying when I felt a sharp throbbing pain in my head, I have been feeling the pain recently but it was never as painful as this. My mother is beside me in an instant asking me what is going on but I couldn't reply. My head feels heavy, it feels as if thousands of needles are poking me in the brain as my eyes watered and I feel dizzy. I grab my head and let out a howl of anguish, I close my eyes and feel myself slumping on the floor.

I have been living in fear since I got that message, I have always been watching my back and it's really getting to me, it's wearing me down. I feel like it is my cross to carry and I don't want to endanger Claire by telling her what I'm going through. I have also been avoiding Jason for his sake, I don't want that crazy stalker to harm him in any way and the fact that he's out of the country for business made it even easier for me.

I have been overworking myself-to the delight of my employer-in order to take my mind off things, sometimes it works and at other times I feel like crawling up somewhere and crying. I miss Jace a lot but the earlier I realize that there is no more hope for us the better for me.

I walk to the last table I have to attend to for today with my notepad and a pen in my hand ready to take the orders. Only one lady is sitting at the table, she looks so beautiful. She was so lost in her phone that I had to clear my throat to gain her attention. Her face pales like she just saw a ghost the moment she raised her head to look at me, her phone falls down with a light thud as she keeps on staring at me with eyes as wide as saucers.

There is something about her that I can't place a finger on and she looks so familiar, it's like I know her but I can really say where. Her face... she looks vaguely like Ashley.

"Sasha." She whispers like she can't believe I'm standing right in front of her. She also sounds like...

"Ashley?" I also whisper back as we both stare at each other in shock.

Emily is in the doctor's office, eagerly waiting for the doctor to give her feedback about Jace's condition.

"What exactly is wrong with my son?" She asks the doctor impatiently.

"Mrs Jefferson, why has Jace not been coming for medical checkups?"

"He hasn't?"

"No, he hasn't stepped his foot in this hospital since he got discharged months ago." Fredric, their family doctor for years explains.

"Why is he so damn stubborn? I always remind him to come to the hospital but I had no idea he hasn't been coming."

"I was surprised when I found out that Jace hasn't regained his memories because he was diagnosed with a temporary amnesia."

"Did you find out the reason for his delay in recovering?"

"Yes." Fredric affirms with a grim look on his face.

"What is it?" Emily asks in apprehension.

"We found out that your son has been taking antihistamines, I mean overdose of antihistamines which has been seriously affecting his speedy recovery."

"What?" Emily whispers to herself in surprise. Antihistamines?

"I have been your family doctor for years and I'm sure Jace doesn't have histamine or any other allergies, so the question is who prescribed those drugs to him?"

"I don't know, I'm just as confused as you are."

"I asked him if he has been taking any other drugs apart from the one prescribed to him but he said no, so my conclusion is that someone is giving him an overdose of Antihistamines so that he won't regain his memories."

"What? No that's impossible." She stares at Fredric like he has grown two heads.

"Yes it is possible. Is there anyone who can benefit greatly from his memory loss? Think about it, Mrs. Jefferson."
