《Lovely Villainess》Chapter 27

I watched as Odin hurriedly made me a cup of tea to drink while I calmly sat on the sofa he guided me to. I left my knights to stand guard outside the door while I talked to Odin. I watched as he ran around busily tidying while making tea. I almost let out a chuckle from his silly actions.

Although Odin had a messy appearance, no doubt from working on developing new medicines, you could tell he was a very attractive man. He had sea green hair with blueish gray eyes. He had a thin build that gave him a scholarly look. Although he was one of the lesser shown fishes of the female lead, he still had looks that could trample any male model from my world.

If he looked like this I can't imagine Malik and his male lead halo, I might just go blind. I started to feel disgusted by all the good looks the book gave to the characters, I knew I was being petty but I couldn't help but feel like vinegar was being forced down my throat.

I was snapped out of my thoughts from Odin setting down a cup of tea in front of me. I gave him a warm smile in thanks before taking a sip.

"So, Lady..." Odin started once he saw me finish my sip.

"Lina." I said. I didn't want to give him my real name, but didn't want one too far from my real name. I also did not correct his misunderstanding of my age.

"Lady Lina, what have you come to see me for?" He spoke respectfully, but in a tone as if he were equal with me. He saw me as a rich commoner, but he was a son of a count. If I were really a commoner I would see this as him being very generous to talk as if I was his equal. He would no doubt speak formally if he knew my real identity.

"Mr. Odin, I've come with a business deal." I went straight to the point. I knew he was a man who hated talking pleasantries.

"If you've come in the name of a noble I have no interest."

"No sir, you've misunderstood my intentions. I am not here in the name of a noble, but in the name of the orphan children." I wasn't coming to him as the dukes daughter, so I wasn't lying. His eyes brightened from my words, letting me know to continue.

"As you know orphan children have it horribly. They are tossed out to starve or steal until they reach their early teens, where the girls sell their bodies to men for survival and the boys are forced into hard labor with dangerous conditions. I've started a non-profit organization, where we will take in orphan children while educating them in various areas so they have a better chance in life once they reach adulthood." Excitement was written all over Odin's face once I finished.

"What part do I play in all of this?" His excitement soon turned to confusion as he couldn't see a way for him to help.

"We will soon begin to gather in children from all over the city, especially the slums. They will all be in poor condition. I'm here to ask you to treat the children. I am not asking for you to do this without payment. I have prepared you a lab, treatment room, and a green house with many herbs already in there. I will fully support your experiments in making cures. The only condition I have is that you do regular check ups for the children." Odin's face was pale with bewilderment.

"W-wait. I haven't even said yes yet and you've already prepared everything?"

"Well, the health of the children come first. So even if you don't accept I will find another doctor to treat the children." It was true. I really needed him, but I would need the children treated. I obviously wouldn't give the other doctor what I prepared for Odin.

Odin nodded, understanding that the children were the most important.

"I'm not asking you to drop everything you have here and move to the orphanage. You could commute when needed, but I would be lying if I said I didn't want you to make what I've prepared you your permanent work place. I would prefer you to have access to the children at all times, and the children would need your constant super vision for the first few weeks as I'm sure most will be malnourished and suffering from various sicknesses." Odin nodded in agreement, he knew better than anyone how the children were suffering as he was the one treating them and commoners.

Even if he was treating them, he was only one man. There was only so much he could do for them all.

"I still want to treat commoners-" I interrupted him as I knew where he was going.

"I will not prohibit your freedom in any way while you work for me. You can even use the treatment room for your patients. I even have a room prepared for you so you can stay overnight, or even move in permanently. My only desire is for the children to live life healthily and without worry where their next meal will come from." There was a lot of emotion in his eyes, but the main one I could see was respect. I wanted to turn away as his gaze felt like too much, but I resisted the urge a met his gaze without backing away.

"Miss Lina is very kind. I will accept." He said while standing to bow in respect.

"No, no. I am not as kind as you think, it is only natural to want to help those in need." I stood up while grabbing his shoulder so he couldn't bow any lower.

He looked up at me, making me realize our faces were inches away, but before I could back away Odin grabbed my hand that was on his shoulder.

"No. I think Lady Lina is very kind. It is natural for people to turn a blind eye to those in need, humans are very selfish creatures." I couldn't deny what he said, he was speaking the truth. While I was speechless, Odin kissed the back of my hand. I snatched back my hand as my face heated up. As a modern woman who was independent, I was not used to this kind of a chivalry at all. I barely had any affection in my life aside from the rare pats on the head I would receive from the elderly when I helped them cross the street as a kid.

"Haha- Lady Lina is very refreshing." Odin chuckled while saying. Although he may look all innocent with his boyish looks, but he was as sly as a snake. He smiled while looking for my reaction. I wanted to glare at him for teasing me, but I decided to calmly smile at him.

"I will send you a carriage once the children have been secured. Can you give me a piece of paper and pen."

"Yes." He quickly handed what I asked for. I wrote down the address of the building.

"It is probably still being set up, but feel free to go see it if you want. You will have four other coworkers. Mrs. Ren the cook, you can talk with her about the diet the kids will need or if some need to avoid certain foods. Mrs. Burk will be the maid, she will also be over supervising the children during the day. Mrs. Glen will be the director, so if you need me to get anything for you, the children, or your experiments tell her and she will take care of it all. Miss Tammy will be the teacher for the children." Odin nodded seriously, no doubt trying to remembering their names.

"Thank you. Please take care of me in the future." He said while smiling.

"Likewise, I look forward to working with you." I said while giving a warm smile. I quickly left with my guards, and soon arrived at the carriage. I sighed in relief once I sat in the carriage.

'Soon...' I thought as I watched the setting sun while the carriage quickly departed to the mansion.
