Jacob was seated on the end of our bed, waiting for me. I locked myself up in our bathroom to take a pregnancy test.
We needed to know, living in oblivion wasn't going to cut it.
He was dressed for work wearing all black as if he was mourning the fact that I might not be pregnant. I took the test, washed my hands and left the digital test on the counter and joined my fiancé.
"You're depressing to look at." I slowly approached him, placing my hand on his shoulder, "If it's negative we'll try again after the wedding."
He let out a tired, long sigh. His big hands reached out for me, grabbing me by the waist and pulling me on top of him to straddle his lap. Now both my hands rested on his shoulders, I tightly held on and leaned in, pressing a firm kiss against his cheek.
"I promise," I whispered to him.
He squeezed my waist, his hand then trailed up my back and pulled me closer. Giggling I wrapped my arms around his neck and teasingly brushed my lips against the corner of his mouth. He growled, annoyed with me when he wanted to be affectionate. Not wanting to annoy him too much I gave in and kissed him deeply. We were getting into the kiss, touching each other all over, messing up each other's clothes. Which was fine since I didn't have to go to the office but my fiancé had to pull himself together.
"We messed you up." I pulled away from the kiss and straightened his very dark grey tie which was almost black, "You do look good in all black." I let him know, "So dark and broody."
He watched me redo his tie, his eyes lingering on my chest and then flickering up to observe my face. I smiled at him when his tie was straight again. Brushing my hands over his jacket I met his gaze and pressed a quick kiss to his lips again.
"There." I smiled, "Perfect again."
He brushed his thumb over my lips, "You like me dark and broody."
His eyes were firm yet his tone sounded hesitate, unsure even. This whole pregnancy thing made him behave out of character. I could only assume he initially did want to start a family because it would benefit him professionally but along the way came to love the idea of having the family life. When we discussed our relationship it's what he promised me. The only reason why I dared to break up with Lucas. I wanted it too but one step at the time.
I placed my hand against his cheek and made him look at me, "It will happen, you'll become a daddy by the end of the year hopefully."
He grabbed tightly onto my waist again and pushed me down on the bed, "You're in such a mood this morning."
I leaned my head back and viewed him with my bottom lip pulled between my teeth. The heated look in his grey eyes turning this little playful moment into something more and something we didn't have time for. It was seven-something in the morning and Jacob needed to head out the minute we knew the answer to the long-awaited question.
It was tempting though.
I couldn't be selfish and push him, he'd be late and I'd feel a little guilty. Just a little. Jacob was an excellent lover so I would be well satisfied after he was done with me, lounging on the bed. How could I feel guilty when I was sated like that?

"The test." I reminded him, sitting up and fixing my hair.
He noticed what I was doing. He didn't look happy about it either but he still pulled himself together. Turning on his heels Jacob headed to the bathroom, distracting himself while I straightened my clothes and got to my feet. Jacob tossed the test my way, it nearly fell through my fingers but I managed to clumsily hold onto it.
"Jake!"
He didn't look sorry though, he looked quite menacing. The dark brooding outfit didn't help either. I spun the test around and felt relief wash over me.
Negative.
Going through our wedding not being pregnant was a relief. I knew Jacob thought I was exaggerating but he was going to give me my dream wedding and more and I wanted it to be perfect. It was written on Jacob's face that he wasn't happy about the outcome. He didn't feel sorry for tossing me the test so aggressively either.
It felt like he was blaming me for the result.
"You okay?" I asked him.
He didn't look at me, but his movement was rigid, "I'm fine." He mumbled, "I need to head out, I have a meeting."
I cautiously approached him, grabbing his sleeve, "I know." I whispered, "You told me." I spoke quietly to keep the situation calm, "But I think you're too upset to leave like this."
I turned him to make him look at me, he did move on his own though because if he didn't want to look at me it would be like me trying to move a brick wall, "I don't want to start the day like this." He grumbled but stayed in place, "You were really looking forward to it. I'm so sorry, Jake."
He nodded, he placed his hand on my lower back, "I'm not mad at you." He clarified, "I'm just a little disappointed." He was a little more than disappointed but I didn't want to speak now that he was admitting it, "Maybe I wanted a child at first to fit my agenda-"
"But you slowly came to love the idea of becoming a daddy." I finished his sentence in a whisper because I knew that, it was obvious since his brooding mood a little while ago, "Jacob we will try again after the wedding." I said once more, trying to reassure him, "I do want kids, just not now."
He inhaled deeply through his nose and then exhaled, letting out all the tension. He didn't look less menacing though. He leaned in and pressed a firm kiss to my temple.
"I know, I just need a little time." He held my gaze to get the point across, "We're okay." He promised, "How about we eat out tonight?" He asked, "Doing the date thing."
I smirked, "I love the idea but do you think it's safe now that Fenna tried to ruin your image completely?"
He pondered over it for a second, "She's not going to dictate our lives now. We're going out and have a security team follow us. We'll be safe."
Jacob needed a date night so I agreed despite feeling a little unsure about it all. I felt like we'd be bothered by the press trying to ask questions and taking our pictures. They were waiting, hoping something would happen. They could wait for an eternity because I was not leaving Jacob all because some jealous woman couldn't settle down.
"Karma will get her, I believe in that."

He chuckled, "Well, I don't believe in that, sweetheart."
"Trust me, she'll get what's coming to her sooner or later."
He narrowed his eyes on me, "Don't say that in public, people might think you're threatening her."
"I wish I could do that, but I know better."
He shook his head at me and trailed out of the room. I followed after him, wanting to see my fiancé off. We reached the elevator, Jacob already had his phone in hand. He was probably letting Joel know he was ready to head out.
"The wedding planner mailed me. He is coming over Friday night to show us the pitch."
I folded my arms across my chest, "That's still rather odd."
"I've told you that money can get you far." Jacob pocketed his phone, "I am giving you the wedding you always dreamt of. It's what you deserve."
I softened, smiling at him brightly which made my jaw hurt, "Thank you."
He kissed my cheek and then stepped into the elevator. Once he was out of sight I dared to breathe again, still smiling from ear to ear. We were okay and this little hurdle wouldn't get to us either. Everything was moving fast now and before I knew it I would actually carry our first child. The thought was exciting yet terrifying at the same time.
Around four in the afternoon I decided to get ready for my date night with Jacob. I was letting the tub fill up with rose scented soap and tightened my silk black robe around my waist. Cautiously letting my fingers dip in the water I turned around when a knock echoed through the bathroom. The only one also present in the house was Mrs. Quake. Worried that something was wrong I quickly opened the door and faced the woman.
"Something wrong?" I asked her cautiously, eyeing her up and down.
She didn't look hurt so I settled down. Sometimes she tried to get me something to drink like tea or coffee while I soaked in amazing smelling warm water.
"There is a young man here to see you."
I didn't know many younger males who'd pay me a visit to the penthouse so I assumed it was Joshua. My eyes flickered to my bath, I was looking forward to that. Mrs. Quake's giggle told me she knew what I was thinking. I shrugged, checking the belt around my robe to ensure it wouldn't come apart right before Jacob's younger brother.
That would be embarrassing.
"I'll meet up with Joshua, can you take care of that?"
She rubbed my arm up and down in a gentle manner, "It's okay, honey."
I mean it wasn't necessary to soak in sweet-smelling water before an important date but it would help me feel sexy. Not wanting Joshua to see my disappointed face I forced a smile on my face and quickly entered the living room. Jacob's younger brother turned to look at me, his cheeks heating up as he saw the lack of clothes on me.
"Jacob is at the office, Joshua." I let him know.
He didn't look at me, he looked everywhere else but at me, "I know, I wanted to see how you were doing." His eyes then settled on the floor instead of me while he cleared his throat, "I came at a bad time, I see."
I folded my arms across my chest to cover myself up some more, "I am fine, Fenna can't hurt me. She never had that kind of power over me. Jacob is handling the situation. His lawyers won't let the woman get away with ruining his image. So we're good, you know."
"That's good."
I smiled, amused at how uncomfortable he looked around me. Jacob had nothing to worry about. His younger brother would never make a move on me. He respected Jacob too much for that. At the moment Joshua looked like he'd run simply because I stood before him in my robe.
The robe was definitely sexy but it covered me up enough for it not to be that indecent.
"You're so sweet."
His eyes flickered to mine, "I'm really not."
Jacob and Joshua had more in common than they originally assumed. They were definitely brothers. Joshua the light version of my Jacob but he could still be intimidating enough to make other people step back. Just not me since I was used to Jacob Blackwood and his mood swings.
"Whatever you say." I giggled when Joshua rolled his eyes at me, "I was getting ready for my date with Jacob hence the outfit." I gestured to the robe which had Joshua blushing like a school girl, "You should let me know when you have some time to spare. I'd love it if you could come over for dinner again."
"I'll text you." He cleared his throat again, "Then I'll be heading off again. Say hello to Jacob for me."
"See you soon," I called after him.
He simply nodded and left the penthouse in a rush. The robe seriously got to him though. Suppressing a giggle I ran up the stairs and met up with Mrs. Quake in the bathroom. She was sorting my soaps and other bath products when she noticed me, a smirk spreading across her face.
"I knew with that outfit the boy wouldn't stay." She gestured to my robe.
"Whatever do you mean." I knew exactly what she meant but pretended to be oblivious, "There is nothing wrong with my outfit."
She shook her head at me, "Mister Blackwood must have his patience tested by you every day."
"And he loves me for it."
She moved away from the tall cupboard and walked out of the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Once I was sure I was alone, having the privacy I longed for I slipped my robe off and settled in the water which thankfully wasn't cold yet. I leaned back and relaxed, soaking in the floral scented water.
The restaurant Jacob picked knew how to deal with situations like ours. We were moved to the back, away from the windows to ensure we wouldn't get bothered. Two of our security men were allowed to hover, making sure we wouldn't get hurt. It was a lot of effort for a date night but we had to endure it all.
"So you flashed my brother?" Jacob asked as he sipped his wine.
I rolled my eyes at him, "I didn't flash him." I clarified, "I merely spoke to him in my robe."
"Same thing."
Jacob sounded angry, when I looked at him I noticed that he looked angry too. He definitely didn't like it that Joshua saw me in that robe. We couldn't turn back time though. Besides he had nothing to worry about. Joshua would never go there and neither would I.
"There is nothing for you to worry about." I ensured him, "Neither one of us would ever go there."
Jacob finished his drink and refilled it immediately. He also refilled my glass. It had been a while since I had wine. My fiancé tried to knock me up, upping his chances by taking away unhealthy food and drinks. A sip of my red wine filled me up with happiness. It tasted so good.
"Just don't do it again." He ordered me.
"You're so possessive today."
"I just don't like the fact that my wife greeted my brother in some flimsy piece of clothing." He lowered his glass and focused on his lava cake again, "So for my sanity don't do it again." He looked in pain as he added, "Please."
I didn't want to laugh at him since he asked so nicely.
"I won't do it again." I promised him, "Only because you begged."
He met my gaze again and took away my fork when I was ready to dig in and enjoy my lava cake.
"No chocolate for you when you behave like that."
I quickly reached for my glass of wine. He wouldn't take that away from me, "This is all I need to celebrate. So jokes on you, Mister Blackwood. And to clarify things, I'm not your wife yet."
His grey eyes darkened. He knew what I was referring to and he didn't like it. He placed my fork back on the table and glared at me.
"Why do you keep rubbing it in?" He asked, almost sounding like a pouty child, "Celebrate the fact that you are becoming my wife soon. Very soon. Celebrate our union."
I raised my glass at him and smiled, "Fine, to us."
He finally smiled as well and raised his glass as well, "To us." He repeated.
