《His Light, Her Darkness》Chapter 56: The Beginning Of The End

"Wakie wakie Rain." A voice coos beyond the haze of consciousness.

I let out a slurred sound as I try to force myself out of the sleep I've been trapped in for I have no idea how long. Prying my eyes open, I'm met with the silhouette of a male figure. Surrounded by darkness, I try to decipher where I am, but I have no idea.

Where was I before now?

I was at home and Harry was with me... I had seen his texts.

What do you want with her?

And then, I confronted him, I asked him if he knew where Mia was, and then he hit me on the head.

That fucking prick!

"Awwww there you go. How are you feeling, need some ice?" Harry asks, a condescending tone lacing his voice. His face becomes clear and I'm stuck staring at those cold blue eyes. Their burn into me like dry ice. How the fuck could I have let this happen? How have I been so blind?

"You've known all along..." I mumble, averting my eyes from his.

"Of course, do you think anything ever happens without my knowledge?" He questions, standing from the crouched position he had been in seconds ago. "I have to admit, it was difficult trying to keep everything from you... You've always been nosy, always wanting to get into other people's business. I'm surprised it took this long for you to find out."

"How?" I choke out. "How could you do this?"

"I mean, how did you think that we hadn't found any clues? Even after weeks of searching for Mia?" Harry continues on, ignoring my question. "I love you to bits Rain, but your stupidity knows no bounds." He laughs.

My fists itch to connect with his jaw, but as I try to move them, I realise I'm bound to the chair I'm sitting in, my legs too. Of course.

"You... You are horrible." I state.

"No, it's just called getting what I deserve. That bitch is going to get what's coming to her."

"What has she done to you?" I sputter. "She's never even fucking met you!"

"Oh my little rain..." He crouches down in front of me once again, slipping the pad of his thumb beneath my chin. "That's just it."

"I swear when I can get my hands on you, you are going to regret even even thinking ill of her."

Harry just laughs and closes the distance between our lips, pressing his against mine. He roughly tries to gain access into my mouth, but I don't budge and keep my mouth shut.

"That's why I love you, always so feisty." He mumbles, pulling away. "I mean, you can try and get your hands on me, though I can very confidently say that you won't do much damage."

"Fuck you." I say, then spitting right on his face. His face scrunches up as he gingerly wipes the spit away with the back of his hand.

My brain is still trying to wrap around how the fuck this has all happened. How long has Harry been planning this?

"But who... Who has Mia then?" I ask. Where has she been all this time?

"None other than Mr Matteo Giovanni." Harry smiles.

"But... Why--How?" Why does Matteo have Mia, that doesn't make any sense...

"It was quite lucky actually, he took a liking to Mia and from there, I worked my way around things. Don't worry your pretty little head though, she's quite alright... Actually, she's more than alright at the moment. She'll be free soon... Though I can't guarantee she'll be alive for much longer after that."

"You're psychotic."

"Mmmmmm." Harry sings. "Maybe."

"Roman isn't going to stand for this. He will find out, if he doesn't already know."

"I can deal with Roman, it's nothing you need to bother yourself with." He waves me off with his hand as he walks away. I can't see where he's going as it's still too dark, besides the very small light above me.

He then flicks a switch and an even brighter light stammers on. I can now see the entirety of the large room I'm seated in, though I wish I couldn't. On the walls around me are tools of all kinds. Every torture tool you could possibly imagine.

My eyes widen, and I'm suddenly no where near as confident as I was before.

"Don't worry, I won't be using these unless you give me reason to... You wont, will you?" Harry asks, and I shake my head furiously. "Good."

The door in the corner of the room suddenly bursts open and in comes an unfamiliar lady. She has ever so dark eyes and the blackest of hair that reaches shoulder length. She's tall and slim, wearing a simple pant suit with bright red lipstick. "Sorry to interrupt, but something has come up, upstairs." She says.

Harry turns away from me. "Katerina," Harry purrs, "I don't know if you can tell, but I am busy at the moment. Is this something that requires my attention immediately?" He asks calmly.

The new lady, Katerina squints her eyes as if deciding how best to answer him. "Yes." She finally says.

Harry looks back at me and smiles. "If I get upstairs and find out this is something someone else could've dealt with, your wife might not be so lucky to get away with her life next time." Harry says ever so calmly, despite having just threatened someone's life.

Being a part of the mafia my whole life, I've always known death, but I have never known someone to be so forward about it, especially Harry.

Harry always used to make sure that he didn't speak of the things he did during work hours. He was always careful not to mention the deaths that would occur during the day, and he would always make sure to wash his blood stained shirt before I saw, even though I was well aware of everything happening.

What is this new Harry? Have I ever really known him? Or was it all just an act? Did he ever love me, and does he still love me?

"I understand." Katerina says, lacking any emotion within her voice.

She promptly leaves, followed closely behind by Harry who gives me a wave as he closes the door behind me.

After what feels like hours, Harry pens the door and enters the room once again, looking in a highly sour mood.

"You must be hungry." He says as he walks around me, and begins untying me from the chair. To say I'm surprised is an understatement, though I don't complain.

Once my hands and feet are free, I rub my sore, red wrists. There was a period of about an hour where I had relentlessly fought my restraints, causing deep burns to my skin.

"Don't try anything stupid." Harry grumbles as he watches me stand. "Just because I love you doesn't mean you wont get what you deserve."

I bite my lip and head to the door, looking behind me at Harry who encourages me with a nod.

Opening the door, I'm met with a set of stairs, illuminated by the light at the top of them. I begin my ascent, with Harry following closely behind. As soon as I get the chance, I'm going to make a run for it. I have to get word to Roman about this immediately.

Once I reach the top of the stairs, I enter a large entryway, bathing in the warm sun of the morning that streams through the windows high up.

I can see in the corner of my eye, the front door and desperately want to run for it, but it's too risky with Harry right behind me. "I know what you're thinking." He whispers behind me, into my ear.

It sends my whole body into a fit of shivers. I don't fear Harry, but I fear the person who he might become if I anger him. "Go ahead, you can go." He says.

I scrunch my face up... He wants me to run?

Surely this isn't real, it's a trap, I'm sure.

"You can run, I promise there is no funny business. Just go."

I take a step forward to the door hesitantly.

"If you don't run, I'm going to hurt you." He says.

So I run.

***

It's been a few days since I tried to run away. Tried.

I'd managed to make it out into the clearing just outside the massive house that I had been kept in, though I was quickly dragged by by some men who I had recognised to be helping in the search for Mia. It seems that no one can be trusted.

Even though Harry had said he would hurt me if I didn't run, he hurt me when I did.

I've been barely living down in this room for the past few days. Each day Harry experiments with a new torture tool a d now my body has been reduced to nothing but a sack of meat. Stained with black and blue bruises along almost every inch of me.

Small cat long scratches run up and down my arms and legs and I can't even see my back, but I can imagine all the horrible markings it has on it.

Harry is using me as an output for all his anger and rage.

And he's been holding in a lot of anger. I've never seen him with much emotion before, he never liked to show any feeling, even when we were in a relationship, he would rarely tell me he loved me.

My pain is minimal as he's made sure to drug me up on pills. Even though he continues to torture me, he's made it adamantly clear that he wants me to be in as little pain as possible. So half the time I'm a bit loopy.

"Mia has escaped Matteo." Harry says. "She was meant to die, but the shot missed, though things are still running smoothly."

I nod, and watch as he reaches for some large scissors pinned on the wall.

***

I'm woken up by a flash of light, however I'm not in the same chair I've been stuck in for the past month, instead I'm lying on the cold concrete ground.

I let out a groan. My muscles feel so sore from having not been used in so long. I doubt I'll even be able to get up if I tried.

"Perfect." I hear Harry mumble.

"What are you doing with that?" The familiar voice of Katerina asks.

"Your brother hasn't been doing as he's told, I think it's time for him to realise I'm serious about my threats."

"So... You're sending a picture of her to him for what purpose?"

"Without some motivation, he wont bring Mia to the funeral. I know he won't risk her like that. But he loves Mia, and Mia loves Rain. He won't let rain die."

"That's not going to work."

"Maybe, maybe not. But that's where you come in." Harry says.

I try to push myself up from the ground, but all my attempts are futile. It's absolutely useless.

"I don't think your threat will work if she's dead by the time you send the text."

I hear Harry scoff at Katerina as if that is the most absurd thing in the world. "She's not going to be dying any time soon, well not unless Matteo doesn't pull through."

There's a shuffling sound that echoes through the room and I feel the light touch of Harry on my back. I flinch, as he touches me wounds, the only thing separating his hand from my skin being a very thin shirt. "I think you've had enough of this, don't you?" Harry asks.

I nod my head, just wanting to be out of this wretched place. I want to be able to see the sun... It's been too long.

Harry's arms scoop me up from the ground and he carries me bridal style from the room.

As we reach the top of the stairs, I whimper when I realise that It's night, and the sun isn't out. I would kill to feel the gentle touch of the sun, to be embraced by its warmth.

Harry carries me to a bedroom and lays me gently on the mattress. It feel like heaven, like I'm floating on a cloud. I'm so grateful that I'm finally out of that basement of pain. I wonder how long my 'freedom' will last.

Will Harry actually kill me if Matteo doesn't take Mia to the funeral? And whose funeral was he talking about?

"Why would you do this to your own sister?" I whisper before I'm consumed by the darkness.

"Sleep well, my love." Is the last thing I hear before I'm out.
