King Ferdinand looked over at Paulo and noticed how he was looking out the window and ignoring Eva.

"Son!" he said loudly to snap him out of his trance.

Paulo jumped a little and said, "What?" He let out an exhale and looked over at him. "What is it? I'm really not in the mood for one of your lectures right now," he said bluntly, looking at the King and folding his arms.

"You have this beautiful, extremely intelligent woman, that by the grace of God and fate agreed to be your wife, and you have done nothing but ignore her. You're not being a very good husband. I'm sorry to have to say it, but you don't deserve her."

"Ha!" he scoffed, raising his voice. "If you think I don't deserve her, give her to someone that deserves her more then!" Paulo shouted as he turned his head and looked out the window, letting out a deep breath in frustration, sitting back in his seat with his arms crossed.

"What did you just say to me?" King Ferdinand shouted, with wide eyes. He obviously wasn't used to being talked to that way and this whole conversation was making Eva feel uneasy.

"Oh give it a rest with the King act Dad. You think just because you're King it gives you the right to control everyone and everything around you."

His Dad laughed and said, "Actually that's exactly what it does."

Paulo turned back to him. "Well you got your way. I did exactly what you wanted like your little puppet. I married her. I'm fulfilling my royal duty and all that bullshit. You'll get your male heirs and then you can just leave me the fuck alone and stop trying to control my life!" he shouted.

Queen Victoria laughed and said, "Son, you do realize that male heirs don't come from a marriage certificate right? It does sort of help if your wife loves you."

"Love?!" he scoffed. "That's rich. Maybe you two should have thought of that before you forced me to marry someone that you picked instead of letting me pick my own wife," Paulo told her, slouching down in the seat with his arms crossed, looking out the window. "And last I checked love wasn't required to make babies."

His Mom laughed again. "No, but it sure helps."

Paulo looked back at her and said, "That's all you two care about isn't it? You care more about getting heirs than you do about me and my happiness. Well you'll get your fucking heirs, even if I have to keep being drunk off my ass to do it."

His parents both looked stunned by his words and Eva felt insulted and hurt by them. He just said he had to be drunk to sleep with her. Was he serious? Did he really find her that repulsive?

His Dad narrowed his eyes at him. "Son, the day you were born was the happiest day of my life. I finally had my male heir that I could pass my kingdom down to. I have been proud of you every day since and have never been ashamed of you," he told him. "until today."

"Oh yeah? Well the feeling's mutual. I'm ashamed that I have parents that are controlling, selfish narcissists," he growled, looking out the window. They rode the rest of the way to the airport in awkward silence and Eva could feel the tension between the two men growing.

As soon as the car stopped Paulo was out of it and headed down the runway towards one of the two private jets that were waiting for them and Eva walked slowly, not in a rush to keep up with him. She saw his parents and sisters and Rosalie heading to the other jet that would take them to Spain and his Mom looked sad and his Dad looked angry. She boarded the private jet and Prince Paulo sat in a row with only two seats in it and the stewardess directed her to the seat next to him and she reluctantly took it and buckled up.

She looked over at him and his jaw was clenched making his chiseled jaw line stand out even more than normal. His hair was falling over his forehead and when he looked over at her with his hazel eyes her heart still skipped a beat, even though she was mad at him.

"Do you and your Dad always fight like that?" she asked.

He crossed his arms and leaned against the window. Without even looking at her he said, "Just leave me alone. I'm not really in the mood to chat right now." Then he closed his eyes.

'Why does he have to be such a jerk?' she thought.

She wondered why he said he had to be drunk to sleep with her, as if it was the most repulsive thing he could imagine.

She studied his handsome face and wondered if there was any chance that he could ever learn to love her or if she was doomed to be in a miserable, loveless marriage for the rest of her life.

"What? Why are you staring at me like that?" he asked.

When he asked that she realized he had caught her staring at him so she looked away and her face flushed red with embarrassment.

"Sorry, I was just thinking about what you said to your Dad."

"Which part?"

"You know, about you needing to be drunk off your ass to sleep with me so they could have heirs," she said quietly, looking down at her hands and her eyes started to burn with tears. "Did I do something wrong Paulo?" she asked hesitantly.

He let out a frustrated exhale like he really didn't feel like having this conversation right now. "Our relationship isn't real Eva. I literally just met you and I was forced to marry you by my parents. I didn't choose this or you. You're not even my type at all!"

She scrunched her eyebrows. "Are you saying you're not attracted to me?"

Paulo exhaled and said, "I'm not trying to say you're not pretty Eva. You're beautiful, but my father knows that I like blondes with very large .........." he gestured, cupping both hands far out in front of his chest.

Eva looked down at her C cup chest. She was not flat-chested by any means but apparently he preferred women who had even more. Then she thought of something. Rosalie was blonde and she had a very large chest. She wondered if Rosalie was right and he wished he could have married her instead.

"Well I'm sorry you're so disappointed in me," she said angrily as tears stung at her eyes. "You're right. You didn't choose me and I sure as hell didn't choose you. You got stuck marrying someone that looks like me and I got stuck marrying a complete asshole," she growled, crossing her arms over her chest and turning her face away from him.

He looked down at his hands, "I guess I deserve that. It's not the first time I've been called an asshole and it probably won't be the last. I guess I'm just brutally honest. I always have been. I believe in saying what you mean and meaning what you say. There's no point in holding back the truth."

Eva looked over and studied his handsome face and said, "The honest part I can deal with Paulo. It's the brutal part I have a problem with. You know it is possible to say what you think and be truthful but in a nice way without hurting other peoples' feelings right?"

"Yeah well, that's a talent I don't have unfortunately. I think people just get offended too easy. They should have a tougher skin."

"Or maybe you just need to be more sensitive and think about other people's feelings before you speak!" Eva said angrily. He was really starting to get on her nerves.

"Be more sensitive? What, like a woman? You want us to sit around and talk about our feelings while we sip hot tea and watch a Lifetime movie together? Sorry that's never happening," he laughed.

She scoffed in disgust, shaking her head in disbelief. "I can't believe my parents picked you. You're such an asshole. My Mom promised me she wouldn't let my Dad pick a man that would make my life miserable and guess what? She failed!"

"Does that mean you're going to leave?" he asked, sounding hopeful.

She narrowed her eyes at him. "You wish. I don't know what my Mom saw in you but it obviously wasn't a winning personality!"

"Oh yeah? Well I could say the same for you. You're not exactly a sweetheart yourself!"

She let out an exhale, flopping back in the seat and crossing her arms. "This is going to be the most miserable marriage that ever existed!"

"Yeah tell me about it," he grumbled.

She thought he was a rude, arrogant asshole who apparently wasn't used to not having everything go exactly his way. It was obvious he didn't know the first thing about talking to a woman or being a gentleman. He made her so angry and she glanced over at him and he was looking straight ahead with his jaw locked tight and a stern expression on his face.

She wondered if he was always this unpleasant. This week on the island alone with him was going to be the longest week of her life.
