《Loved》Chapter 49

Everyone was waiting outside the door of guest room where Rose was.
Emerson was most anxious.
When the door opened and doctor came out, Emerson refrained herself from almost tackling him.
He gave them an apologetic look.
"Sorry I---"
He couldn't even finish his sentence when Emerson started hyperventilating and her face turned purple.
Adrien went in frenzy.
"Em, hey Em no no sweetheart breath, breath."
The doctor was pulling his equipments to check her BP and calm her but she passed out on Adrien before that.
"Em, no. Get up." He said frantically, trying to wake her up.
"Mr Stone, calm down. It won't help. Let me check her." He said.
Adrien gathered her in his arms and carried her to his room. Gently placing her on his bed.
"Can you wait ---" The doctor was cut off in the middle.
"I am not going anywhere? And what happened to Rose? " He hissed.
The doctor gulped and started checking her BP.
"She just passed out with stress. It took me so much time because hospital called for a complication which occured during a surgery and I had to explain it to them. I didn't know she would have a... panic attack." His tone was apologetic.
"Pretty slow for a doctor." Adrien mumbled under his breath.
He held Emerson's hand all the time.
The doctor checked her and injected her with something and told she would be up by morning. And not to let her stress.
With that he went away.
Adrien sighed and raked a hand through his hair.
This was supposed to be Emerson's birthday. She was supposed to party till she pass out, have a big smile on her face the whole time. One person came and ruined everything.
He laid beside her and pulled her to his chest.
"I am so sorry Em. Please sweetheart. I am so sorry. And nothing happened to Rose. She is fine. That doc was idiot. Like me. Please be fine." He whispered in her ear, kissed her forehead and cuddled her closer. He apologized. Finally.
No one knew but he was feeling so bad. He treated her like a spoilt brat just because her last name was Leone. But she herself was there victim. No child should go through it.
He remembered many times the tension between her parents and her. She didn't leave anything in her parents house because she knew she would never go back there. She was never loved there.
He stroked her hair and rubbed her back. Having her close to him felt oddly satisfying.
His mom entered the room.

"The doctor left. Your dad and I will be in the guestroom. Don't worry about Rose I will check on her frequently. Take her care." She said.
Adrien sighed and nodded.
"I will." He whispered.
His mom left with a goodnight.
Adrien was feeling very bad. Her birthday, surprise from Rose and Henry, everything was ruined.
He always felt so highly of himself, but he was just another problem Emerson had to deal with.
His eyes stung with tears and he shut them , breathing thr scent of Emerson and holding her closer.
He could feel the weight of the gift he bought for her.
He didn't even get to give it to her in a good way.
In a way he was feeling it was his fault.
When he came to London, Emerson excepted him without any protest, them she definitely would have did that on her birthday too.
If he didn't ask for her help she wouldn't have met her ex's cousin, who also insulted her.
His heart was clenching, making it hard to breath.
So he just closed his eyes and held her close, drifting into sleep with the pain still in his chest.
Emerson felt something warm , hard and heavy engulfing her. She fluttered her eyes open to see she was in an unknown room, Adrien holding her close to his body like his life depended on it.
She was confused but when memories started resurfacing, her eyes widened in panic.
She pushed Adrien away and ran out of the room to check on Grandma Rose.
When she opened the door with her heart beating frantically, she noticed Grandma Rose was on the bed but not pale as she was when she fainted, but looked like a normal person sleeping.
She sighed in relief and went towards her checked her pulse.
She felt like a big weight was lifted off her shoulders when she felt her pulse was normal.
Taking Rose's hand in her's, she sat on the bed.
"You scared me grandma. Don't ever pull such stunt. Can you imagine how frightened I was, I thought I lost you like Grandpa Peter." Her voice cracked but she continued, " I was so scared, even Adrien comforted me saying you are a firecracker, and you won't die till you see our children marry." She let out a teary chuckle, " Imagine him talking about it like he is sure our marriage is going to work out, but I am not complaining, it sounds good you know, 'our children' . He is handsome after all and I can't deny it. And I'm sad, I can't say I am not hurt when I got to know basically I was sold to Grandpa Henry by my parents, but I don't regret marrying Adrien. He is an asshole, arrogant and his pride, scratch that, vanity is bigger than his emotions, but deep down he is a good guy. If he wasn't he wouldn't have cared enough to secretly check if I was fine when one day I just left the house angrily at night. He wouldn't have thought about giving our marriage a chance, wouldn't have come to England all the way from America just because I was alone in a different country. It just feels like destiny hates us, because when we take barely a step forward we are pushed 15 steps back." She sniffed a little and wiped her tears. " He even blacked out and beat my jerk of an ex fiance because he insulted ans humiliated me. I am happy that even of I am not loved, at least I am cared. Probably love from a partner isn't for me. The love you had with Grandpa. But I am happy with what I have. A man with mafia relations care for me, you, even if not my blood care for me, my finance professor cares for me, Grandpa Henry and also Adrien cares for me, it all adds up for the love I always wanted. And I wouldn't say I am not hurt by my parents, thier abuse, my ex's, specially the humiliation I felt because of him and how my secrets were just opened to the world like it was nothing. It hurts, so much —" She let out a sob —" But I know how to endure it. And I would definitely not let it get to me, but I know that probably I wouldn't go in for a relationship now. I don't want to be loved. I am already cared for enough. Even if Adrien decided to be married or not, it won't matter to me, I won't let it matter. I am tired of drama now."

She let out a sigh.
"And I am feeling really better now that it's off my chest, and you can open your eyes now, I will check on Grandpa Henry, I don't remember much but he looked sad."
With that she kissed Rose's forehead as she opened her eyes and giving her a small smile, she left the room.
When she closed the door behind, a sudden gasp let her mouth at the sight in front of her.
Adrien Stone was kneeling on the ground, his eyes glassy with un-shed tears.
His eyes travelled up to come in contact with hers, and she saw the pain in his hazel eyes. Guilt, sadness , anger and fright were also visible.
Emerson drowned and kneeled in front of him looking at his state.
The moment her knees touched the floor, Adrien engulfed her in a tight embrace, tucking his face in her neck like a scared child.
"I am sorry, I am so sorry." He kept muttering.
Emerson felt something wet on her shoulder and she froze for a second.
Adrien was shedding tears. For exactly what, she didn't know, but he was crying on her shoulder.
Emerson wrapped her arms around him and rubbed his back soothingly and let other palm stroke his hair.
"It's ok Adrien, don't cry, shh." She mumbled in his ears.
His crying stopped but he didn't let her go, neither did he stop muttering sorry.
Emerson sighed softly.
"It isn't your fault Adrien. Nothing was, so stop with this, my knees are aching in this position." She half joked.
Adrien reluctantly loosened his hold on her and pulled away, but not before squeezing her once.
They both stood up.
Adrien dragged his palm on his face.
"I didn't want to eavesdrop but I did accidentally, you just fainted yesterday from a panic attack and then you just ran out of the room pushing me so I followed you. And even if I didn't hear you, I realised it long before that how I behaved was also wrong. How selfish I am and how much my ego is always problem between us." He pauses and gulped the lump in his throat, and continued, " I always thought you were sheltered by Evans, just like a cages princess, but I didn't realise that a bird is never happy in a cage. What shocked me was your previous marriage which was called off, and your - your ab- abuse more than that. From your own parents. I still can't believe u treated you badly when you just escaped a hell hole. And I am so so sorry for it Emerson. I shouldn't have behaved the way I did, I should've treated you well, not because you were abused , but because you never gave me a reason to. You were always polite, soft spoke... Always treating me like a good normal human, I - I am so sorry... " His voice cracked and a tear again escaped his eye.
Adrien looked down in shame, not having the courage to meet eyes of his wife. Wife.
