《Loved》Chapter 38

The whole ride Emerson was silent, listening to music and bobbing her head up and down to beats.
Adrien wanted to see what was going through her head. The way she left when he came was odd. But he knew asking her could create problems, and she won't tell him that easily. He intentionally took the longer route saying the usual route had traffic. Emerson didn't protest.
She was too occupied in her thoughts, even if it looked like she was just listening to music.
Adrien tapped her thigh making him gain her attention.
"Yes? " She asked.
"Join your phone to aux cord." He said, still driving.
She was reluctant but agreed.
Lie to me by Tate McRay started blasting through the speakers.
Said you never why do you ever lie to me baby lie lie to me...
Adrien was a little surprised by the choice of her song. He never heard it before.
So, he told her,
"I never heard it before."
Emerson shrugged.
"I hear variety of songs. Sometimes the most popular are unheard by me and the least popular arey favorites." She stated.
He nodded.
The thing was true, the songs changed from sad songs, to party songs, rap music and did complete 180 .
Emerson wasn't paying much attention to the songs, she was just feeling the beats.
Heather's words were shocking for her.
She was over Michael a long time ago, but she cherished the memories. Knowing it was all an act hurt, really hurt her.
The headache she was feeling wasn't going away. She wasn't in mood to cook for Adrien or do anything.
"Let's buy takeaway today." She suggested him, and for him it was put of blue. He had no other option than to agree. He couldn't force her to cook. But suddenly he got an idea.
"What of I cook? " He asked her.
Emerson snapped her head so fast towards him he feared she would get a whiplash.
"Wh-what? " She asked bewildered.
Adrien rolled his eyes.
"I can cook. No need to act so shocked." He grumbled.
Emerson frowned.
"The cabin appliances are only one I got, O don't want to buy new, it's irritating. So if you don't know to cook really don't." She said.
Adrien scowled.
"Let's go my penthouse then, I can cook, really." He said.

Emerson sighed.
"Let's go to my cabin. You don't have groceries." She stated.
Realisation hit Adrien.
"Ok. And don't worry I won't burn anything." He told her.
She nodded. Her headache and all those things were forgotten for the moment.
She didn't admit, but deep sown she was excited to see what Adrien could cook.
When they reached her cabin, Emerson and Adrien freshened up and Emerson changed her clothes.
Adrien removed his jacket , vest and tie.
Emerson came out changed to see Adrien now comfortable.
"You acn use the place as you like, just don't burn anything down or make a mess. " She said and sat on the couch , starting her work.
Her headache wasn't helping her and so she took Advil, and Adrien noticed.
"Are you not feeling well? " He asked, worried.
"No, just a little headache, nothing serious." She replied.
Adrien frowned.
"You should rest for a while instead if working then. Was it because of work, is it too much? " He asked her, concerned it could be because of him.
Emerson gave him a reassuring smile.
"No, it will go away in some time. And it isn't because of work. Just change in weather." She told him.
He wasn't convinced but nodded and turned back to his cooking.
Em took his advice and laid on the couch, closing her eyes.
After a while, Emerson smelt something. But it wasn't bad and opened her eyes.
Adrien was setting plates on the island.
She sat up and started helping him.
"Oh no. You don't have to do that. I was just waking you to eat." He said.
Emerson shook her head.
"I am good now, and I was never asleep." She reassured him.
He nodded.
Emerson sat on the barstool waiting for him to serve the food he made. Excitement was bubbling inside her even if her face was neutral.
Adrien took a spoon and served her vegetable rice.
Emerson looked impressed . It looked good and smelt good.
Adrien served himself too and sat on the barstool, waiting for her to take the first bite.
She took a bite and raised her eyebrows.
Adrien couldn't comprehend what she was thinking.
He scratched the back of his neck.
"How - how is it? " He asked her.
Emerson gave him a smile.
"It's good, just needs a pinch of salt." She grabbed the salt bottle and added a little to hers and his plate.

She took a bite again.
"Perfect." She said with a smile and startes eating.
Adrien sighed in relief and he too started eating.
It wasn't really bad but it also wasn't how Emerson cooked. Her cooking was heaven.
When they finished in silence, Emerson washed the dishes and other utensils while Adrien cleaned the counter and island.
When done, Emerson plopped on the couch, a smile on her face, Adrien too did the same.
"I will take you to the site at 11 am tomorrow, then we can have lunch at one of my hotels itself." He told Em.
Emerson nodded.
"Sounds like a plan to me." She said and closed her eyes, leaning back on the couch.
Adrien found himself gazing intently at her face. Her perfectly shaped eyebrows, lashed which weren't much long but still good looking, rosy cheeks which easily gained colour due to the paleness in them. Her small button nose, lush pink lips which resembled petals of rose.
He wanted to kiss the honey soft lips again which he got to taste two times before.
But he also didn't want to push her away when she clearly asked for space and said she wasn't ready for this.
"It's rude to stare." She whispered.
Adrien didn't startle this time, just his heart beat increased.
A smile formed on his lips.
"Vampire" He teased.
Emerson opened her eyes and gave him an amused look.
"Really? You watched twilight? Or wait, did you read it? " She teased him back making his eyes widen.
"What's wrong with it." He grumbled.
Emerson laughed lightly.
"Well I wanted to ask why are you renovating your hotels in middle of winter. I mean It will be Christmas next month, more tourist will be coming, so... " She trailed off waiting for him to answer.
Adrien sighed. He was going to renovate those hotels in summer next year but changed his plans which he knew would backfire.
"Yeah, I know but I am renovating only one hotel that time. The renovation of other hotels would start after vacation season is over, and it will be done one after another so that the business is still going." He told her.
She nodded.
"Did you like the office? It was unused room which we converted to your office. It's not big but gets good natural light. " He asked.
Emerson nodded.
"Doesn't matter much. But I like the fact about light. It makes working peaceful. Natural light brightens the mood." She told him.
He nodded.
He hesitated before telling her something .
"My mom visited me. She wanted to meet you." He said cautiously.
Emerson frowned, confused.
"Me? Why? "
Adrien shrugged.
"Dad told her about your presentation. She was impressed, so she just wanted to meet. She didn't tell me much." He told her.
She nodded.
"Oh.ok" Not knowing what to say.
Adrien suddenly frowned.
"What happened? " Em asked him.
"Grandpa didn't call me once, did he call you? Asking about where you are and all? " He asked her.
She frowned and shook her head.
"No, he didn't. Let me call him."
She unblocked his number and called him.
Henry picked up after 4 rings.
"Can't you just let a man sleep peacefully? " He shouted .
Emerson and Adrien winced. The call was on speaker.
"Sorry grandpa, it's me, Emerson." She spoke softly.
"Emerson! Oh, how is my sweets? Everything ok where ever you are? " He asked her merrily.
Adrien's jaw dropped on the floor .
One thing he knew was his grandpa would be very cranky if he didn't get much sleep. But hearing Emerson's voice, he was happy.
Emerson smiled.
"I am fine grandpa. I am in London, fir exchange program in Oxford. How are you? " She asked him softly.
Henry laughed on the other end.
"I am good. Just missing your food. So, how come you called. I thought you blocked my number from one time I called you? "
Emerson looked down in shame.
"Sorry grandpa, it was foolish to do so. It's just, Adrien was worried because you didn't call him . "
"He is wilth you? I thought he did something, that's why you left. I knew whatever you did and where ever you are, you are a careful and responsible girl, so it didn't stress me, and about that idiot of a grandson I have, I didn't have a reason to call him. He could have called me if he cared instead of telling you." Henry stated .
And once again, Adrien's jaw was on floor.
