《Loved》Chapter 37

Emerson was stuck to her chair, working with her full potential.
She had read the whole info about the hotels, contacted the construction company in London they were contracted with, framed the plan and budget, and what not.
She didn't stop till it was 6 pm, stretching her arms when her rough plan was done. Now she had to go on the site tomorrow, as it was Sunday as Adrien had planned.
She got up from the chair , gathered her things and left the office, closing the door softly behind her.
Most employees were about to return, there working hours were over.
She went to Adrien's office ,gently knocked on his door and entered when she was permitted.
Adrien didn't look up from his laptop where he was typing furiously.
Emerson stood a good distance away from his desk and spoke.
"I have completed a rough plan for the renovations, and I will finalise it when I see the hotel sites. You can check it before finalising , if you want some changes to be done or don't like it." She told him, keeping a file on his desk.
He looked up surprised.
"You don't have to inform it to me just now, it isn't something I will have to do changes in." He said.
Emerson nodded.
"Ok, then my work for today is done, I checked the sites you told online and got a rough idea of how the hotels are, but tomorrow I will get a better view. I will go now if you don't mind." She said.
Adrien was no doubt impressed by the way she analysed everything and worked.
"Wait for half an hour , my work is almost done, I can take you back." He said .
Emerson nodded.
It would be better if he comes with me. That way he won't be able to bail on me to take some model ona date and insult my food.
"I will wait outside then."
Adrien shook his head.
"You can seat here." He told her.
Emerson protested.
"It's ok. I will get to see the office floor that way."
Adrien nodded and she left.
Emerson could feel the gazes of people on her. She ignored them and went across the hallway to explore the floor. It was unsurprisingly big.

What can you expect from Stone.
Some employees were whispering to themselves, the news spreading fast she was someone who rejected the internship , on the first day Adrien lashed on her, Henry defended her and some out of the context rumours.
Emerson was going towards the sign which indicated kitchen when a tap on shoulder stopped her making her stop.
Emerson tensed but relaxed herself and turned towards the person.
A girl in her late 20s was staring at her.
"Yes? " She asked politely.
"You are Emerson right? Emerson Leone? " She asked her.
Emerson sighed mentally , remembering when Nick Darcy asked her the same type of question with a tone of accusation, the same tone held by the woman in front of her.
Emerson nodded.
"How may I help you? " She asked a polite tone, her voice as always soft.
The woman scoffed under her breath.
"What are you doing here ? " She asked instead.
Emerson sighed loudly.
"I work here, from today. Do I know you?" She asked her.
The woman squinted her eyes.
"Like you don't remember me." She said.
Emerson blinked twice.
She isn't Emma Watson to remember.
Before she could reply, Reed Carl approached her.
"Hello Ms Leone. Your ID was delivered an hour ago but I forgot to give it to you. Here." He passed her the ID card.
She smiled at him and took it.
"Thank you Mr Carl, and it's Emerson please." She said politely.
"And it's Reed please." He mimicked her.
She chuckled softly.
"Ms Griff, you aren't off to home yet. " Carl asked.
She smiled at him.
"Just chatting with Ms Leone here." She said.
He nodded.
"So, what is your position here Emerson? Only important people from the department work here." She said trying to belittle her.
Reed Carl turned to Emerson to look her reaction. No matter what, people were sucker of extra drama.
Emerson smiled at her, not letting her get under her skin.
"Just to help with some work, nothing more." She told her .
Ms Griff, or say Heather raised her eyebrows.
"Didn't know Mr Stone started hiring maids, I thought janitors were enough." She said in an amusing tone.

Emerson rolled her eyes mentally, her words hurt, but she was taught better.
She just gave her a smile but Heather snatched her ID from her hand and looked at her designation.
What she read shocked her.
"Temporary Managing Director." Heather whispered in disbelief.
She was just an assistant there even with her work experience and Emerson, who was just 23 and still studying, appears out of the blue and is appointed as MD.
Her jaw was on floor.
Carl watched the scene with amused expression.
Heather looked at Emerson with furious expressions.
"Last time I checked, you were working on just as some shitty accountant or something, how the hell are you suddenly MD of Stone hotels?" She hissed harshly.
Emerson flinched slightly.
Her surname sound a little familiar and so was her face, ahe just couldn't remember. Her knowing she worked meant she knew her from before.
"Heather, no need to go all ballistic on her." Carl said calmly.
Emerson froze. She was Heather , Heather Griff — Michael's cousin.
Know Michael, her ex fiance.
Realisation dawned on her face. Neither Michael, nor his family was fond of her job. So Heather calling it shitty wasn't a surprise.
Emerson chose to remain silent instead of arguing with her.
Heather laughed humourlessly.
"Of course, you must have fucked someone to get the position, here we work our asses of to gain some praise from boss and here she comes out of blue and is MD of the project." She said sarcastically.
Emerson sighed softly. A headache was starting to form due to her shrill tone, even if her voice was good, no one likes to hear insults.
"Mike was right, you are just an attention seeking, gold digging, desperate bitch." Heather spat at her.
Emerson froze. Those words going deeply. She couldn't believe Michael could say something like that. Even if he cheated, just for a moment of pleasure, she was shocked he spoke of her like that.
"He told us that when he was with you for six months, but he still didn't know why he pitied you and remained with you." Heather added making Emerson's heart bleed.
He wasn't saying that because our wedding was off, but he had the opinion when we were together, he didn't speak fondly of me with his family with adoration in his eyes, but instead bitched about me in disgust.
Emerson swallow the lump in her throat, the time with him was just an illusion.
"I don't know what are you talking about Heather, but you should mind your language here , I don't think someone hearing you speak like this would be a good idea. You should take your past outside. Also, Mr Stone is coming in this direction, so I hope you understand and behave." He said in warning tone..
Emerson closed her eyes and took a deep breath, giving her a fake smile.
"It was nice meeting you again, Ms Griff. I should leave now." She said politely and turned towards the elevator, leaving behind a stunned Heather and Reed.
Adrien who was about to call her stopped himself when he saw her gave him a smile and said a "bye sir " , but muttered I will wait in the parking lot when she was out of hearing range from anyone except him.
He gave her a nod as she took the elevator and the door closed.
Adrien gave Reed a questioning look.
"What's the matter Mr Carl? You are always ready to go back the first thing after office, it's been more than 30 min you are still here? "
Reed averted his gaze and chuckled nervously.
"Just having a chat with Ms Griff and Ms Leone."
He nodded and gave the same questioning look to Heather whose face was a little red like she had some outburst just now.
But she gave him a sweet smile instead.
"Good bye sir. Have a good night." With one last smile, a sweet one I may add, she left.
Adrien shrugged the wierd tension between the duo and left to gather his things from the office to go with Emerson.
