Chapter 10

~M

Jason and I ended up being goalies for the different teams.

Red- My team color

Blue- Jason's team color

And to my surprise the kids weren't to bad. They even got some peoples attention and by mid game there was a small crowd.

Even though they were about 9 to 11 years old they were really into the game and going for it.

One of the Blue players tried to kick into the goal. But I jumped for it and caught it in my hands and landed in a pile of mud.

I got up and the blonde girl looks at my outfit. My white shirt it now brown and my legs are covered in grass and dirt along with my shorts.

She looks up at me worried, "will you get in trouble?" She asks I glance down at my appearance. A few cuts and mud all over. I smirk back at her. "I won't tell if you won't," I said.

I throw the ball back in and the game continued.

After about two hours it's near the end of the game and the Reds have the ball.

The crowd are now cheering the kids names or the colors of their jerseys.

It's early sunset.

A Red passes it to another teammate who runs with it to the Blues side. She passes it to another Red but a Blue intercepts it. And he runs down to the Red's side. My side.

A Red tries to take it back but slips in the mud and his cleats cut the Blue's leg and trips him. The cut gushes out blood like you wouldn't believe. The boy with the cut leg does a summersault over the ball and lands on his back with a thump.

The crowd sucks in a sharp breath in unison. "Oh that had to hurt," a guys says from the crowd. "That's going to leave a scar," a woman says and I look through the crowed a couple moms but none of them seem to be his.

"Oh crap," I mutter and run over to him. "time out!" I yell and all the kids come running over.

The boy is not crying but you can see the pain in his face. He probably got the wind knocked out of him. The kids crowd around him.

"Give him space," I say gently. Trying not to make it a big deal, and they back up to their separate sides.

The boy is probably the same age has Jason but taller. He has black hair and a small scar on his nose that is very distinct. His skin is a rich brown and he has big Brown eyes.

I help him sit up as he coughs. Yeah, he got the wind knocked out of him.

"You alright," I ask rubbing his back.

He nods but his face is drained of color. Like he's about to vomit. I look down at his leg, it's pretty bad.

There's three long gashes about 6 inches each and a lot of blood. "Jason get me a water bottle." I shout and he runs over to the cooler one of the moms brought earlier in the game.

"From 1 to 10 how bad does it hurt," he looks up at me and mumbles, "6."

A normal kid would have said 8 or 9. Jason would have been a smart ass and said 25.

Jason comes over with three bottles of water. "Alright so it doesn't hurt that bad. Good," I say. Mostly to myself and I move in front of him.

"Can you put your knees up for me?" I ask and he does slowly. I rip my shirt sleeve off and open on of the water bottles.

"So what's your name?" I ask and pour water on the cut. He yelps in pain but Jason keeps his arms down.

"Gonna answer my question?" I ask and he looks up at me as I clean off the blood running down his leg with the ripped sleeve. Not touching the wound yet.

Yet

"Mathew Anderson," he says and I look up at him with a smile.

"That's a good name... strong name. Got any family Mathew? Mother? Father?" I ask and he nods his head. I lean in a little telling him to explain.

This is what my brother did when ever I was hurt. He would ask me questions so I would have something to focus on. Instead of the pain.

It always worked.

"I have my mom, my dad and my older brother," he says. And smiles a little.

"And what does mom and dad do?" I ask and then gently press on the cut to stop the bleeding.

"Owwww," he says through gritted teeth but tries to focus on the questions. "My mother works at the high school here as a AP bio teacher," he says.

And I whistle, "wow you have to be smart to do that job," I say and I remove the sleeve looking at the cut. Mathew didn't seem to notice he just grinned.

"Yea and she rubs it in my dad's face when he makes fun of her cooking. She burns everything," he says. Me and Jason smile.

"What about dad? Or your brother?" I ask pour water on the cut. Mathew sucks in a breath but it didn't seem to be as painful as the last one and it is already healing.

"He works in the pack house," he says and I nod my head showing I'm listening. "My brother is going to be high up in the pack soon. He is a really good fighter and really smart."

"Is he like your role model," I ask and Mathews cheek turn a slight pink shade. I smile not needing a answer to that questions.

"Jason could you look around for some bandaids. Ask the people in the crowd." I say and he nods then runs off to the crowd of people as they watch to see if the kid is okay.

We both watch as Jason goes from person to person asking.

"He seems pretty cool," Mathew says and I nod in agreement.

"Do you know him well?" I ask and look back at the cut. It's healing really fast, but it will still need a bandaid.

Mathew keeps looking at Jason, "No, he always kept to himself. He was the Alpha's son so we thought he was kind of prodigy that didn't want anything to do with us. He always got A's. He always knows the answer for questions in class. Even any kind of board game we play, he wins." Mathew explains.

"Well all I can say is that he is a smart ass. When I met him he was all alone in the woods. I told him to go and play with kids his age. He told me no because you guys scare him." I say chuckling and Mathew looks surprised.

I take the ripped sleeve and clean some more of the blood around the cut. "See I think since he is a little smarter than kids his age he is scared to talk to you. Or just won't know what to say." I say and glance up at him, "but don't tell him I said that. I won't hear the end of it," I say.

Before Mathew could say anything Jason comes running back with a man. Probably a little older then me.

"Matt," the guys says and kneels down next to the Mathew.

"Don't worry it's just a cut," Mathew says and the guys rolls his eyes. I look at Jason confused.

"Wait till Mom here's about this," the guys says with a chuckle.

Jason points to the guy and to Mathew, then mouths "brothers".

"Ohhhh," I mouth back and Jason hands me a bandaid big enough to cover most of it.

First I rip off my other sleeve earning a surprised look from the Brother. What did he not see me do it the first time?

The old one is covered in blood and soaking wet anyways. I take the new one and dry off around the cut to make sure the bandaid will stick.

I take off the paper covering the bandage and place it on the

cut covering as much as it can. "There good as new," I say and slap in lightly making Mathew winces but he doesn't complain.

The crowd seeing that the kid is okay and starts to leave with the sun almost gone.

Mathew stands up and moves his leg around.

"Thanks Luna," he says with a wide grin and I smile back at him.

Then the brother speaks up, I almost for got he was there. "Your the new Luna?" He asks and I nod then turn to Mathew.

"It's fine just be careful," I say, and Jason whispers "telling a 10 year old to be careful is like telling a mother not to worry," and I just roll my eyes.

Mathew has a slight limp but it will be fine by the end of the week. Some of the other kids come over and pat him on the back. And the others saying that he might have a scar and how cool that is.

He turns to me and Jason, "do you think you guys can come tomorrow for a rematch?" He asks with the other kids.

I shake my head, "sorry guys I can't," I say and me and Jason get up I grab the empty water bottles and the ripped sleeves.

"Jason? Are you gonna come tomorrow?" Mathew asks. Jason looks taken back by the offer.

"Um, yea. Sure, I'll be there," Jason says and I can see the excitement in his eyes. He is going to do something normal. Play a sport with children his age and he's pretty good at it. He really is a kid inside. Thank god.

"Great with Jason we can beat them this time!" One kid says.

"No way we will still beat you guys," another says.

"See you then," the kids says and the other wave good bye and they start to walk home.

I'm about to mention that Jason is blushing but Mathew's brother gets my attention. "Luna," he says and I turn my head toward him.

"Yes?" I ask, seeing Mathew at his side I can see the resemblance. There noses are the same along with their eyes.

"I wanted to thank you for helping," he says and I shrug.

"No it's nothing, I was just the first to react," I say with a small smile.

"Well I want to formally introduce myself," he says, "my name is Cameron Anderson, and I'm going to be the Be-"

He was interrupter but someone shouting, "Sophia!" My head snapped in that directions knowing who is was.

"Luke?" I ask has he comes running over. I look at him confused, "what are you doing here?"

He runs over to me and picks me up in a bear hug and spins me around.

The tingles that spread where he touches are like little fires. Has the bond gotten the much strong in a few hours?

"Luke?!" I question, he stops spinning and puts me down.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?" He asks shaking my shoulders. I place my hands on his to try and calm him down.

"Yes I'm fine! Why wouldn't I be?" I shout at him, not the best way of calming someone down.

He looks me up and down and I follow his gaze. I am covers in mud and grass stains along with blood stains. The shirt sleeves are ripped and the ends of my hair have some mud in them. Also I only have one shoe.

The other got stuck on the mud and there was no getting it back.

"Oh this isn't my blood," I say pointing down to my shirt. Not bothering to explain the rest.

"It's my brothers," Cameron says and steps forward. Luke looks surprised and let's go of me. Leaving me with this cold sensation of where his hands used to be. The bond has gotten stronger and it will keep getting stronger and stronger.

"Cameron, man when you left patrol I was getting worried," Luke says and they grab each other's hand and guy hug. I honestly don't know what else to call it. So I'm calling it a guy hug.

"Sorry I heard that Mathew got hurt and moms working summer school. I had to make sure he was okay," Cameron apologizes. Then looks back over to me.

"I have Luna here to thank." He says and Luke looks back over at me. I shrug and look at Jason.

"We were playing soccer and Mathew got kicked and Sophia cleaned the cut," Jason explains.

"Well that's nice of you," Luke says sarcastically.

"Shut up, I'm only mean to you," I mumble.

"Anyways how about we go back to the pack house and get both of you cleaned up," he says look at Jason and me.

We all say good bye to Mathew and Cameron. "Nice meeting you," I say.

As we walk Luke doesn't let go of my hand and every time I try to move my hand away. He holds it tighter.

"So Cameron does patrol with you?" I ask becoming annoyed with the silence. Luke nods.

"Yea. He's going to be my Beta," and I snap my head to face Luke. Looking big eyed.

"Wait I just met the Beta?"
