《Forced Enemies》Chapter Thirty One

"Are you fucking ready?" I heard Kye slam on the door, making me drop the article of underwear.

I gulped as I looked down at it, the limited red fabric foreign in my hand.

"I can't wear this," I started, "who packed my bag!"

"Some girl did, now hurry up!" He shouted back at me, and I heard his foot steps walk away.

I sighed and pulled off my swim suit, taking the under wear and bra and putting it over my body.

I looked in the mirror, my eyes slightly widening as I saw myself.

Damn I look good

I smiled to myself, my confidence reaching the ceiling as I grabbed the dress off the counter, slipping it over my body and quickly doing my hair and makeup.

I grabbed the pair of heels on the floor and opened the door.

Kye sat on the edge of the bed, his phone in hand.

When I put the shoes on, he looked at me, his eyes raking me from top to bottom.

I took this chance to look at him, his black button up clinging to his chest perfectly, and his black suit pants.

I noticed the suit jacket on the bed, the black fabric standing out to the white sheets.

"You ready?" He finally said, placing his phone in his pocket and grabbing his jacket.

I nodded my head as he walked up to me, the smell of his cologne reaching my nose, and I couldn't help but breathe in his scent.

I looked up to him, his eyes already on mine.

He fingers reached towards the strap of my dress, his fingers going underneath it and snapping it against my skin.

He backed up and put the jacket on.

"Let's go," he said, walking past me and opening the door for me.

I watched as he locked the door, and then went beside me, grabbing my hand in his.

My skin tingled against his skin as we walked towards the elevator, and I glanced at our joined hands in the elevator mirror.

It dinged as we reached the top floor of the main building, the sounds of knives and forks clattering as we came up to the lady at the front.

She took one glance at Kye and nodded, walking quickly towards a reserved table at the back.

"Here you go, Mr and Mrs Santiago," she said, placing the menus down onto the table.

We said thank you to her as we ordered our drinks, her face flustered as Kye gave her a casual smile.

"I think she likes you," I said after she came back with our drinks.

I took a sip of the fruity alcohol, the burn non- existent as it went down my throat.

"I think so too," he smirked, taking both hands and putting it behind his head.

I rolled my eyes, placing the drink down on the table.

It got quiet, the conversation dying down as we stared out the window.

Down below was the view of the beach, and the waves crashing against the shore.

"I used to come here as a kid," Kye said.

I turned towards him, his gaze already on me.

"Used to?" I asked.

He played with his fork, his jaw clenching as he looked back at the water.

He opened his mouth and closed it, his mind searching for words as he stared back at me.

"It wasn't a huge thing," he finally said, but I could tell he was holding back as he fiddled with the fork more.

I put my hand on his, stopping him from moving the fork any further.

"It's okay, you don't have to tell me," I told him.

He looked taken a back, and then he nodded, and I took my hand back, placing it in my lap.

He didn't say anything as the waitress came back, and we both ordered.

It didn't take long before our food came out, and my mouth watered as the pizza was placed in front of me, not caring as I stuffed my face with it.

"Fuck this is good pizza," I muffled through the bread, and I watched as he smiled, another piece of pizza in his hand.

"I told you," he smiled, "it's delicious."

We didn't say anything more as we filled our mouths, the big plate gone in minutes.

I leaned back in my chair, wiping my mouth with a napkin as he did the same.

"That was good, thank you," I told him, and he nodded, taking a quick sip of his drink.

"No problem."

We both didn't want dessert, and when we got up to leave, I watched as Kye placed bills of money on the table, and my heart warmed at his kindness.

He grabbed my hand after he paid with his card, leading me down and back towards the elevator.

"Do you want to go to the beach?" He asked, his hand still in mine as we stood.

"I would love that," I said, and I could see his lips twitch up.

The door chimed again, and he lead me outside, towards the beach.

The moon reflected off the water, showing the visible waves crashing into the sand before us.

I took off my shoes as I walked, the soft sand going in between my toes as we stepped into the sand.

We stopped at the edge, just before the water reached our feet.

It was only the sound of the water filling my ears, nothing else as we stood in silence.

But I felt my heart ache when I heard his hurt sigh, and I turned my attention to him.

I grabbed his hand once more, giving it a slight squeeze that made him look at me.

"What's wrong?" I asked, and he grabbed onto my hand when I started to pull away, his grip so tight I knew it might leave a mark.

He relaxed a bit when he heard me wince, and he dropped my hand.

I stepped in front of him, making sure his attention was on me as I spoke.

"I know you don't like me, I know we don't get along, but let me help you, what's wrong?" I asked again, softening my eyes as I looked up to him.

It took a moment for him to speak, and when he did I felt my heart shatter for him.

"When we used to go here," he started out, not taking his eyes off of mine.

"It was a family vacation, everyone loved it- especially my sister."

I sucked in a sharp breath.

"We were only ten, and she was six." He looked down, and I placed my hand on his cheek.

He rested his head in my hand, his eyes boring into mine.

"She died, here in these waters."

I didn't say anything as I hugged him tight, his arms holding me tightly as he brought me down to the ground.

I didn't know if it was the crashing waves, but I heard him sniffle as he held onto me on his lap, and I pulled him closer.

"I'm sorry," I whispered in his ear, "I'm so sorry."

He pulled back, and when he looked at me, I knew there was no hatred in his eyes.

"This wasn't supposed to come up," he slightly chuckled, brushing off the conversation.

"It's okay though," I said quietly, my thumb brushing over his cheek.

"After what happened, why did you bring me here?" I asked.

He looked down and shrugged, his fingers trailing along my waist.

"Clarity I guess," he said, "I just needed to come back here."

I nodded, "I understand."

"Why do you care so much?" He asked suddenly, "you hate me so much, you've said it yourself."

I sighed, not sure of what to say next.

"Because I do care about you Kye, I've grown to like you, I've grown to shred that hate."

"I care for you too," he blurted out, and I slightly smiled.

"You do?"

He nodded, pulling my legs closer around his waist.

"But I still hate you," he whispered in my ear, and I couldn't help but let my smile grow.

"Come on," I said, getting up from his lap, "let's go back."

He agreed and stood by my side, both of us walking back to our honeymoon home in the night.

"If you ever need to talk about it again, I'm here." I told him, and he smiled.

"Thank you," he said, taking my hand in his as we walked down the side walk.
