《Nicknames》Chapter 17 ~ Data

🌙
I'm pissed but I mask it as I approach Alex, Anna and the few other people we met earlier today.
Anna is the first to spot us jumping to her feet and running over to us. She is very preppy. But she's also really sweet. She's thin with long brown hair and a nice smile. If she wasn't a drug dealer I would actually be friends with her. She's only two years younger than me.
"Luna, girl, hurry your cute butt over here!" Anna exclaims.
I move away from Carter and make my way over to Anna where she pulls me into a tight bear hug. "I can't believe you actually came. I thought you were gonna ditch us to hook up with your hubby with the way you guys were looking at each other."
Before I can reply she pulls out her phone and passes it to me. "You never gave me your socials, so give them up now. We have to stay in touch."
I stick the port into her phone as I give her my fake socials that were set up a long time ago for situations like this. It's mostly filled with simple pictures of food, me, and Carter and I. My personal social is only for close friends.
Carter comes up behind me and lifts me into his arms, actually surprising me. "You left me," he pouts. I know he's taking advantage of the situation in order to clear our tension but I'm very upset with him. Obviously I can't convey that emotion in front of Anna so I just laugh and adjust myself in his arms before placing a kiss to his cheek. He nods and lets me down before smacking my butt and walking off to talk to Alex.

I pull the port out and turn to Anna who watches me with "aww" eyes. "You guys are so freaking cute. I love it."
Yeah, I don't think she would be saying that if she knew about the argument we just had moments ago. Instead I just laugh and roll my eyes. "You and Alex are so cute."
She rolls her eyes and shrugs. "We are kind of cute, aren't we?"
Laughing, I pull her along to the group where I sit next to Carter and Anna sits next to Alex. As we talk, I hear Jake come through the earpiece again. He's more active this time since it's one of Miami's cases.
"Good job on getting the data Luna," Jake says in my ear. "Now we need Alex's phone data."
Carter growls and I turn to him curious. "You didn't get it."
"I did, but Jake from State Farm is hellbent on pissing me off apparently." My eyes widen at Carter's attitude and he doesn't stop as he continues to talk into the earpiece. "You're not getting Luna in this life or the next buddy."
"Seems like you aren't either," Jake retorts.
Carter stands and picks up his phone, placing it to his ear and walking away before saying a few words to Jake. I just roll my eyes and make my way over to where he stands yelling.
"You've been in the friend zone for two years and still haven't gotten her. I doubt you have a chance," Jake scoffs.
I don't like this conversation one bit and neither does Carter as he begins to say some more very bad things. I cut the conversation real quick covering Carter's mouth with my hand and shutting him up. He glares at me for doing it, his heavy breathing heating up my hand.

Slowly, I step closer and push to my tippy toes, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him into a hug. He sighs and relaxes, wrapping his arms around my waist and holding me back. We stay like this until he calms down and I pull back to meet his gaze. Hothead.
"We have a case, Carter. They aren't here, okay. It's me and you only. So I need your attention here."
He nods and takes my hand pulling me back over to the group with the excuse of Carter's Coach calling. Everyone is under the impression that he is a football player. Mostly because that's the story we gave them to explain the scars on his body.
When we sit down Alex immediately drops a small pill into each of our hands. "You've never had anything like this."
I've never done drugs. Only acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Are Tum's drugs? Anyway, I've never done drugs so I don't really have anything to compare this pill to. I pretend to take it and pocket it when no one is looking. I wait a few minutes and mimic the effects that every else seems to present.
It's a new drug. But it's been affecting the brain worse than any other. It relaxes you then it excites. Like a mental drop tower that doesn't stop. Many people have committed crimes while on it or even killed themselves.
"Alex!" Carter calls out. "Who the fuck is your supplier man?"
He sound's dazed and I'm questioning if he actually took it, but then he winks at me. Oh, he's good.
"Dude," Alex slurs stumbling over to us and throwing his arm over Carter's shoulder. "I could definitely hook you up with my supplier. He's a big dog too!"
"That would be great!" Carter laughs.
After a few more minutes of drugged out college students, I stand up to get away from it all, grabbing Carter's hand and pulling him along with me. He immediately pulls me into his arms as we approach the water.
"I'm ready to go home," I sigh as Carter grabs my waist and pulls me into him. Right now I'm too tired to be mad at him. I just really want to go home, shower and climb into bed.
Before Carter can say anything Anna's yell reaches our ears and she runs over to us, stopping breathless. "Laser tag tomorrow! Then shopping! I'll text you the details!"
"Ok!" I try to match her enthusiasm but I'm really tired.
Alex laughs and comes up behind Anna. "We'll see you guys tomorrow. The way you guys are all up on each other is telling me that y'all wanna get home and get into the bed."
Alex winks at Carter and I resist the temptation to roll my eyes. But I'm thankful for the excuse to leave and I take it, saying goodbye to everyone and pulling Carter along with me.
"We'll see you guys later," Carter replies glancing back and pulling me along to the car.
The moment we arrive home, I head upstairs to go to bed and get rid of the growing headache in my head. I hate being upset with Carter, but sometimes it's inevitable.
