Sheila

He clashes our shields together sending my stumbling backwards. He grinned like a mad man as he swung his sword down at me. "Too much, love?" He jokes as I raised my shield to block the blade.

I kicked out one of his legs, making him fall to the ground. He kneeled and I went to put my blade at his throat, but he pumped his shield sending me flying over him, face first into the ground.

With that move we were both cackling. We stood and faced each other again. We couldn't afford to bring out anything less than our best or we would be completely out matched but one another. He had years and years of training, sharpening his physical form. I had an obscure amount of raw power just from being a Demi-god. So in a way, we were perfectly matched.

We ran at each other again slamming our shields together, this time I was ready and didn't budge at all. He huffed and drew his shield towards him for a second before ramming it into me. I placed one foot backwards. "Is that all you got?" I laughed as I used the land I just lost as an advantage.

With my sturdy step I wrapped my shadows around the arms holding the shield before I pushed it into him. I felt the darkness pulsing within me. Is this what Alcina feels every day? No. I can't think of my best friend now.

He stumbled a good distance backwards. He was lopsided so I decided to send my blade down onto him. I wasn't to scared of my sword hitting him, due to the armor we have on which was built to resist the majority of blades. This was going nowhere, what is my plan? I can't beat my mate without a plan, he's too smart and strong.

Our family is odd. I'm sure my daughter hates me, not to my liking, for the fact I love her and only want her to succeed. My twins are the opposites of one another, truly the opposite. My eldest is the strongest and maturest of all of them, a fit ruler. Though I still felt bad for him.

Did I prepare him well enough to take the throne after my mate and I pass away? Leading is one of the hardest things a person could do in life because sometimes you must make choices that fail and as a leader you must take all the blame because you were the last person to decide. There is no, "but everyone agreed to it," as a leader. If you fail, you must apologize.

I failed as a leader and a best friend. I though back to Alcina, when I turned my back on her when she was going though the hardest time of her life. Yet she never complained. One would never know her pain, she kept her emotions under lock and key. She was a good leader, much better one than I could ever be.

I want to see Alcina, I though to myself. I frowned as my blade clattered down on Zaivinth's shield. Every time I see her now I have the dying urge to apologize, and even now I always see her calculating eyes seep into my own. Like she's ready for me to hurt her once more.

"Sheila! We are fighting!" Zaivinth threw me onto my bum. Then an idea came to my head. I knew it would at one point. I smiled up at my mate which made him raise a brow as he swung down with no hisitation. The beautiful black blade skimmed my shoulder, making him cringe.

I kicked his legs out once more, shoving my shield into his neck, making him flop to the ground. Then I pounced, sitting on his shield that was covering his chest. I placed my blade at his neck. "I think that's match."

"Dad!" Groaned Hedos, one of the twins. "I can't believe you let her win!" The children ran up to us. Zaivinth lifted up the shield and bounced me to the side. I landed on my butt once more with a umph. We made eye contact shortly after and laughed.

Zaivinth looked to Hedos, "there was no letting her win." He rested his arm on his leg perching up his head as he sat. "She won." He looked over to me with a wink. I rolled my eyes and crossed my legs.

"Mom!" Tilly, my youngest daughter came running up to me. "You were so cool!" She knelt down to me. My eyes widen in surprise, was my daughter... was proud of me?

"Come here!" I said with joy as I wrapped my arms around her. She squealed and started to push out of my grip to no avail.

"Moom, you're crushing me!" She slapped my armor but I just laughed and pulled her tighter. I looked up to see Cion, my eldest, who was looking down at me with a soft smile on his lips. I kissed the top of her head and she let out a groan before I released her from my arms.

I stood and dusted myself off. I walked over to my mate and held down a hand. "Getting rusty old man?" He smiled as he took my hand, pulling himself up. He gave me a fat kiss on the side of my temple.

"Not yet." Then he leaned close to my ear. "You know I would try for number five." I gasped and pushed him away from me.

"No." I made an 'X' with my arms. "No way. Absolutely not. We already have enough." I don't know what I would do with another Tilly running around. And giving birth, the ghost pain sometimes hit me out of the blue, which made me want to throw up.

"What are you guys talking about?" Hedos places a hand on his father shoulder.

"Old people things," I gumbled and saw Ciel admiring my shield again. My eyes lit up with excitement. Maybe Ciel could be the lead general of the Kingdom. Once Cion becomes king, he will need a general.

"I'm hungry for lunch." Tilly said running up the stairs to where Zaivinth and I were sitting before. She was gone in an instant followed by Hedos who was never late for any meal. I'm sure that he has caught up to her and they were now racing. I looked to Zaivinth who wrapped his arm around Cion's shoulder.

I smiled softly to myself seeing my king and future king bonding like so. That reminded me. I looked to Ciel. I finally found him. I finally found the person worthy to be my successor.

I could teach him everything I know. I put my hands on my hips. "I'll give this to you." I held out my shield to Ciel. He gave me a puzzled look, sure this was coming out of nowhere. He held out his hands to take the shield.

I pulled back. "But." His mouth opens. "This shield belongs to the General of our Kingdom. Are you willing to take that role?" I just made that up. Though I think that could be a good heirloom.

"Wait—" he gasped, his grey eyes widening to the size of dish plates. "Mom," he couldn't get his words out. He was cute. I loved his child. "Mom," he squeezed his hands to his chest. "This role, I don't know if I can—"

I huffed a smile on my lips. "You don't choose the role," I held out the shield. "The role chooses you." And he was the perfect one to have it. He was calculating, smart, and witty.

"But what if I mess up." He looked at me with sad eyes. I placed a hand on his cheek.

"You will." I said bluntly. "But no matter how bad you mess up, you have family, friends, who will back you through any hardships. Any." I thought to Xion, Hebrus, Weni, Ross, Alcina, and my mate. "You are not alone in this role." I smiled up at him.

His smile became strong, almost booming. "Alright mom," I placed the shield in his hands. "I will make sure I'm the greatest General, I will not bring shame to this kingdom."

I flicked his forehead gently. "I know."

"Sheila!" Zaivinth called down to me from the balcony above us. "Lunch will be gone by the time you get up here." Then he looked back as if something drew his attention.

"And we have guests!"
