Sheila

'Alright, alright, three down, a billion to go', I thought to myself as I swung my sword, implanting it into the skull of one of the man eating specimens.

Now these creatures are monsters. How could people compare me to these things? That's quite rude, if I say so myself. I ducked behind my shield as one swiped at my head. It was a miracle that this shield hasn't gotten split in half due to these creatures extremely sharp nails.

How I knew they were sharp? My face and arms were torn up with their scratch marks. I felt like I was bleeding from a thousand different places. The thought of me bleeding send a spark through me as I slammed my shield onto the closest wendigo and then stabbed it in the chest as I stepped over it.

Sheila!

Busy. One of the nails got me in the face once more, in an already bleeding wound. Though to my surprise my wounds were healing at extraordinary rates, not to mention I wasn't tired at all. How odd.

I killed the last of them and then I looked to my right to see Xion about to get shredded, he was on his back, his bow off to the side and was holding them off with his sword. He was good with a sword, though his weapon was the bow.

I gave a cry to distract the wendigo as I ran into him at full force, making him fly back a few steps. I stumbled a few steps and guarded Xion as he scrambled to get to his feet. "What would you do without me?" I shouted over the sound of war, then I felt the impact of the wendigo slamming against my shield.

It was so powerful that I slid back in the dirt. Then out of nowhere an arrow was lodged into the wendigo's throat. I looked over to Xion who had a wild, untamed grin on his face. His true smile, my heart warmed. "What were you saying?" He mocked.

"Hey now." I got closer to him. He would deal with the long range as I dealt with short range. I sliced and diced the closest creatures, and soon the wendigos were dwindling. My mate was a few yards away, doing his own thing, and looking drop dead gorgeous doing it.

Then we saw a blast of purple fly over-head. "Duck!" I shouted as I grabbed Xion and dropped to the floor. God we just couldn't catch a break.

We were positioned on top of a hill and they were just breaking over the edge of it. It was the witches, I let out a grunt of annoyance as I hopped up putting my shield into my protective stance over Xion who still needed to her up.

"Dragons are on a different level," groaned Xion as he stood and readied his sword. This out a smile on my face.

"Last time I checked, I was a werewolf." I shouted over my shoulder at him. Though was I? I wasn't accepted by them. The only people who had accepted me into their... family, was Xion and Zaivinth. My heart was pinched by gratitude and a little bit of sadness.

Then I shouted to the men still alive behind us. "Rush them! They are long m-range fighters, we must overwhelm." Ho gods, that yell took almost everything out of me. Then I took a solid step forward and started rushing.

I blocked a bright yellow flame with my shield as I reached their scattered line. Then I sliced the first witch through the chest. That slice wouldn't have been able to kill her, though that wound started sizzling into them, something I noticed did to most of my victims. Odd. Though I'm not complaining, then I slashed the next one.

I didn't realize what we were up against until I saw the extensive army under the hill. The werewolves, what was left of them, were retreating every each way. I gasped, then screamed, "Zaivinth!"

What's wrong?!

Get the men to retreat, this is their entire army, we are all going to die if we stay here. I cut down the next person. I had to stay here, if they see that my troops are retreating, they will start rushing us.

I'll tell them, get out of here. I'll meet you at the camp. I saw him run back towards where the fortified line was.

Oh Zaivinth, oh Zaivinth, I felt tears prickle my eyes. I knew I couldn't leave. I must protect the line. It was duty, my job, my joy, to protect the people I loved.

I saw an arrow fly past my face into the person next to me. I looked back for a second seeing Xion with a grim look on his face.

He knew what was going on. Yet, he stayed. Then behind him, elves fought man to man. They knew they were all going to die. Yet to gain time for their brothers, they are staying. It was such a powerful sight.

I turned to focus on my opponent, letting out a cry of pain and anger, I slashed and swung and anything and everything. I couldn't go deeper because I would be surrounded. I couldn't fall back because they would gain and break out line.

They were funneling in around the ruins. Making it easier for me to kill them. Though black magic hit me in the side, the spot that was not guarded by my shield. I flew a few yards into a pillar that stood strong. I felt something in my back snap as I slid to the ground.

"Sheila!" Xion shouted, shifting his men over to protect my from the upcoming witches. My vision was blurry as I lost hold of the shield in my hands.

"Sheila!" I felt someone grab right under my shoulder, hauling me up. "Get up!" Xion was yelling at me, though my head was buzzing. I felt dark magic stirring inside of me now. My legs, I couldn't feel them. I couldn't feel my legs.

"You aren't dying today!" Though he spoke too soon as a instant later I saw a surge of magic come from the corner of my eye. In order to protect him, I pushed with all I had left and protected him. I felt the impact into my back as it began to burn up, eating away at my flesh.

I looked at Xion who was under me, pain swam in his eyes as he looked into my half-lidded ones, "go," my head fell limp onto his shoulder. "You have to live," tears filled my eyes. I knew that this was it. It was getting hard to breath, I closed my eyes to weak to keep them open.

"My king!" The elves were hauling in our direction.

"My Queen, Queen Sheila!" I knew that voice, the desperation made me want to cry harder. I knew that it was Green Horn running in my direction. What was he doing here? The dragons needed to leave me and run.

How do I protect all these people? These people in a pickle due to me. Could die because of me.

I needed to protect these people, needed someone to heal and protect them. I reached into my armor, into the pocket right above my heart, where this little thing had been staying since I had received it.

I needed someone to protect my love ones, now that I couldn't. I took the pink shell into my hands, and crushed it into little tiny pieces.

Before I felt everything leave my body. A single tear slipping down my cheek. My last words were to my mate, thank you, I love you.

Merry Christmas?
