"I knew those faes were rotten to the core," my troops spat out and it made me cross my hands over my chest. I wanted to retort that, 'not all of the fae will betray you, we just had a truly horrible one in power.' Though I couldn't due to the fact that I don't want any pity in my troop's hearts when we go and slaughter them.

"We have pulled the werewolves back and are back to the planning boards on when we will be attacking." I looked out to all of their faces, their mouths were in a frown and all of them had their eyes on me. Even after all this time leading, which isn't much time at all, I still get nervous knowing that all of them have their trust in me. "It would be substantive to not have our allies walk into a bloodbath," I tried to joke.

There were a few chuckles, "what do we do now, my queen?" Someone asked me from within the crowd.

"There is nothing much you can do, besides to be prepared to pack all of your things and start moving again on second notice. We," I referred to the generals and myself, "are going to come up with a plan which will give us the upper hand on Kolgrims twin."

I saw them bob their heads, "alright, you are all dismissed, I wanted to inform you all in what is occurring, I will see you all at afternoon training." I Picked up the shield from off the ground beside me. The hairpin was already in my hair, and the pink flowers certainly looked beautiful compared to the grey skies above.

I was so exasperated still on the thought of Azai betrayal. I trusted him, he was considered a friend. A friend for a short while, but a friend never the less. I frowned at the thought.

I felt something wet hit my cheeks, then a familiar moonlight chuckle. I looked up and smiled, "you have no idea how close I was from slapping you on accident," I laughed leaning into him as he wrapped his arms around me.

"I understand how you feel," he sighed looking down at me, "Azai will never be forgiven from this. When I see him again, I'll make sure he doesn't walk away alive." Zaivinth growled out, it been a while since I've heard him angry.

"How do you think Xion is taking it?" I sighed, looking at the muddy ground as I followed Vince's lead to where ever he was walking to.

"Horrible," he said honestly. "I think he is taking it the worst out of all of us. He hides his true feelings behind that joyful smile. Though after all these years I've noticed, the larger his smile, the greater his pain." We looked up at each other and stared, I frowned.

"How sad."

The battle position was set. We would intercept them at the fallen runes of the goddess of the moon, just on the outskirts of the werewolf territory. Actually only a few miles away from the Olfie, the young Alpha's pack who I had met on the way to Meave's kingdom. I was sure that the warriors of the Willow Walkers were here, probably apart of the werewolf army, waiting yards ahead of us.

The dragons were still in their human form, my mate next to me, as we were crouched down behind a fallen white stone wall that had once stood tall, though eroded away by age. We sat hip to hip, my, no the woman's sword, in between my legs. My mate had his arms over his knees as he rested his head on them. I looked down the line to see all my other men digging fox holes into the ground just outside.

This was the plan.

Send in the werewolves, have them do some damage on the army of the undead, then have them retreat with little casualties into a fortified 'camp' of dragons, and we start the roasting on the squishes. Then we will have Herus' army come around the back in them to have a perfect example of a hammer and anvil outcome.

There was a small noise that came from my mate next to me. I stopped listing for the whistle of the werewolves starting their attack and listened to my mate. He made the noise again, and this time I was sure, he was asleep.

Here I was about to pee myself with nerves and my mate was taking a short nap. I wanted to take the shield off my back and smack him over the head. Though I refrained, if he was that tired to sleep on the brinks of a battle outbreak, then he should sleep. I signed and rested my cheek on his shoulder.

I just listened to the sound of his breathing, trying to calm my own nerves. This would be my second battle, though this time I was a lot more nervous, maybe because in my first battle; I rushed into it and I didn't even have time to sit and worry about my well being.

In the corner of my eye, I saw movement coming in my direction. I focused in on it to notice long blonde hair, a smile broke out on my face as I saw the elite elven troops file into the ruins. They move a lot slower than the dragons and wolves, so we were expecting them to arrive much later.

Xion and I made eye contact and a soft smile broke out of his face as he waved in my direction. With my cheek still on my mate's shoulder, I waved back. I mouthed a 'glad you are here,' to him as he slid down a fallen wall, his lieutenant-general beside him.

Xion then mouthed back 'what would you do without me?' We shared a silent chuckle, I tried to hold it back so I wouldn't wake up the sleeping lizard next to me.

Then startling me, the wolves let out a howl, announcing their attack. My body stiffened and my shoulders squared. I clutched the sword in my hand tightly, then out of nowhere I felt an arm wrap around my shoulders pulling me into Zaivinths chest. It will be okay.

I let out a sigh of relief, I didn't realize how bad I needed to hear some reassurance. I have your back, mate. I reached up and softly kissed his cheek.

As I have yours, mate. He hummed into my mind. I heard the sounds of war in the distance, they should hold them for another fifteen to thirty minutes before retreating back here, where they will come facing the elite troops of both ours and Xion's armies.

Though fear struck me as we head the noises of war come closer and closer. Zaivinth, shot to his knees so that he was ready to jump up and transform. I unsheathed my sword and put my shield on my arm. No, this can't be happening how can they be getting closer? They were supposed to hold them for so much longer. I looked down the line again to see the elves drawing back their bows.

The noise got closer and I raised a shield to my face, unsure what to expect.

Then out of nowhere four naked humans with antlers producing from their face, though instead of a face there was just a deer skull, jumped over the wall, crashing into my shield. Their mouths covered in blood, eyes blood red. I let out a blood curtailing scream as I realized what they were. Their antlers were sharp as knives were scraping my face as I scrambled to get to my feet.

They were wendigos, one of the most feared creatures in the history of the Mythicals. They were humans who had gotten cursed or maybe had been possessed by evil spirits that had changed their appetite to cannibalize on human flesh. Their long talons were sharp as swords, there was almost nothing that their talons could slash through.

They should have gone extinct, the mythical should have burned the books that created them hundreds of years ago. How were they back now?

They scraped against my shield as I was on my feet backing up. There were another four more jumping over the wall. I was horrified to guess that the blood on their talons and mouthes were the blood of my species.

I stumbled back as one of them ran into my shield once more. Then I braced myself, getting into a stance, gripping the sword tightly in my hands, I drew the shield tight to my body and as they ran into me again. I pushed them back, making some of them collapse to the ground.

When I saw two more wendigos jump over the wall I knew that this would be one hell of fight to make it out of. I was aware that the men behind me needed fifteen more minutes to fortify, though I knew they stood no chance against these walking nightmares, regardless of how much they prepared.

I knew one thing.

I had to take down as many of these carcass eating hell hounds as I could before they reach our line.

So I stood my ground, blood dripping from my cheek, I gritted my teeth, and yet out a warrior cry as I ran towards the first victim.

If I don't post in the next five days, the genetics final had killed me.

This is a wendigo for anyone asking.

What are the monsters that fuel your nightmares?

What do you think happened to the werewolves?

How did the wendigos come back?
