Sheila

I was wet. And I hated it.

I sat there within the shadows of the night, a hundred yards away from Kolgrims' army. My men, five yards apart to my left and right, lined up for about twenty-five yards each way.

I was shivering, my black fur was matted down by the chunky rain. I sighed, shifting only slightly. Any large moment will catch the eye of the army in front of us. Then there was a flicker of moment to my left and right.

I looked up at the sky, it seemed like they would be changing men now. I looked to my sides, giving an affirming nod to my soldiers. Then I looked out to the camp once more.

His army was primarily made of humans, so I didn't think that this fight would be much of a problem. I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I turned my hand to see who it was. I was met with familiar crow wings Cebrus was looking down at me with a frown. I raised an eyebrow, watching him lean against the tree.

"Go back." He nudged his head towards the base camp about fifteen miles back. I shook my head and looked forward once more. I can't leave my troops.

"Thirty-two hours, sleep." Has it been that long already? Sure I was tired, but I had to keep watch out. I had to make sure my troops are safe. How could I sleep when my men were hiding on the front lines? What if something went wrong and I couldn't help?

"Eat." I turned to look back at him once more. Sure I was hungry, I had a few snacks here and there.

"I'll go back in a few hours." I whispered, shaking out my fur slightly. The water was starting to leave rashes on my skin.

"Xion is worried," I think this is the most Cebrus has ever talked to me before.

"Is no even an option?" I sighed, a weak smile on my lips. He shook his head, his face still expressionless. I stood up and stretched. I looked to my left and right to see my troops looking at me again.

I nodded to them respectfully, and the entire line stood and saluted me off with smiles. With a smile on my face, I took my leave with Cebrus on my tail.

We walked for a little bit, I noticed that Cebrus wouldn't fly off ahead of me. I stopped and turned to look at him, "would you like to ride on my back? It would be faster." His eyes widen, I think this is the first time I've seen expression on his normally blank face.

"It would be an honor," he bowed his head, I lowered my body and he climbed on. I felt him grip my fur tightly, I braced myself and stood up. My legs were a bit shaken due to sitting or standing still for the last day and a half.

I shook off the shaking feeling and ran off, the wind and rain hitting me in the face. I had my tongue out of my mouth panting as I ran the entire way back. My black shadow-like fur was flaming around me. Standing on the outskirts of the tent was Xion who was waiting for us. The second he saw us he smiled.

I ran up to him, Cebrus still on my back. "Welcome back, Sheila." He smiled and turned his back walking into the heavily populated area of camp. People were rushing around, pots of soup, people trying to keep fires going, some just sat under the flap of their outside tents waiting for orders if need be.

If they saw us walking past them, they stopped what they were doing and saluted us. Xion put them all at ease to continue what they were doing. Though they looked at me to truly see if they could relax, I nodded my head.

I miss you, I told my mate which I instantly earned a reply.

Does weather get you down, my love? Oh I missed him, the way he talked, it has only been a short while, but I missed my partner and his beautiful smile.

Maybe, I said secretly and I heard his chuckles fill my head.

Well I miss you as well, it's too easy to deal with my spineless Chancellor. He sighed and I smiled as I entered our tent.

Stop giving Selven a hard time. I scolded him, I dropped down letting Cebrus off me. He jumped down and straightened his armor out. I have to go, I'll talk to you later. I love you.

I love you too, he said and I felt the mind link sever from one another. The golden string that connected our minds disappeared, I frowned. Then it quickly was off my face as I shifted into my human body.

"Note to self. Don't let Sheila do anything alone, because she will keep doing it till she dies." Xion leaned against the table with the big map behind him. He put his hands in his pockets with a smirk on his face.

I raised my hands in defense, "guilty," we laughed together, the cold weather getting warmer do to the fire on the edge of the tent. "Now what did you need me back for?"

"Battle is in two days. They are ready, Kolgrim is not showing any signs of movement, due to the information that you told our troops to send back." I nodded, I did tell a messenger to send back all the facts.

"What I find odd though, is that they have an army full of humans," he said rubbing his chin before his two fingers.

I sighed, "you and me both," I stretched up, yawning. "Humans don't stand a chance again us. I don't understand what Kolgrim is thinking."

"Any ideas?" Xion looked to Cebrus who was staring at the ground, deep in thought. Then he looked us, frowning, shaking his head.

"How did he even rally this human army? Isn't he is burning villages left and right?" I placed my hands on my hips. My legs were starting to ache. I needed to lay down and sleep. But I didn't want to admit it.

"That's the exact reason they are joining. They don't have a house anymore, their families are gone, they fear him, but he is giving them a home and feeding them, and people fight with what feeds them." Xion sighed his hands gripping his the bridge between his nose. "Anyways, I wanted you back to be ready for our first battle of the war."

"Alright, I'm going to go eat something, then I'm going to bed."

"I'll call for someone to get you if something important happens," Xion nodded as I turned to head out.

"Goodnight," I said to Cebrus with a soft smile and a wave.

"Goodnight."

I closed the tent flap and headed to where I saw that warm soup on the way in. I let my smell guide me to the soup. It was coming from a bunch of men and the cook mom of the group who were huddled around a flickering fire.

I sat down next to one of the men, a grin on my face. "So this is where the smell was coming from," I grinned from ear to ear, "mind if I have some?"

The man next to me turned to look at me, then he gasped, "Queen Sheila?!" He stood and bowed his head deeply. His mates stood up lightning fast, following his actions.

"Oh sit, it's cold out tonight." I looked up at the sky, "looks like it won't stop raining for a while." Then I looked to them who had worry in their eyes. Come on, I'm not that important to be this worried about my presents. I recognized one of the men, his green horns spiraling around the side of his face. I knew that he was one of my rangers. He sat across from me, he was on duty about five hours ago, he was the one switching out besides me.

"Have you eaten well?" I asked and if his spine wasn't straight enough, he found a way to straighten it further. He nodded his head.

"Yes, Queen Sheila."

I looked to this camps mom, the person who cooks the food. "I smelled this food from a mile away and couldn't resist coming to try some. Is there any spare for me?" I gave a shy smile.

"Yes!" She stuttered our diving for the bows. She poured soup into my bowl with shaky hands.

I accepted it gratefully, "thank you very much."

I looked over to the ranger, "did you see those humans doing a pissing contest?" I laughed, "it took everything within me not to burst out laughing as they competed against each other."

The ranger laughed with me, "I saw the guy next to me shaking with laughter, but I was filled with the undeniable urge to pee," he held his stomach, recalling the moments.

"Thank god I wasn't the only one that had the urge. Meanwhile, it was so hard to keep a straight face. All I could think of was, 'so this is what men do with their spare time?'" This had everyone chuckling.

"That sounds about right, Queen Sheila." One of the other guys started talking as I shove the soup into my mouth. "Today in combat training, we were fighting hand to hand combat, and this guy with the horns," he raised his hand to his temples making a gesture of horns. "Totally flipped and pinned a guy just because his horns went into his shirt."

"No way," I gasped pointing my spoon at him, "was it luck or talent?" I laughed.

"Luck, definitely luck. The surprise in the kids eyes after he threw the guy sent all the guys rolling with laughter. Even a few of the commanding officers were seen chuckling." We continued to laugh alongside with one another for another thirty minutes.

I looked to the guy that came from the Dragon Kingdom, my kingdom, and asked, "do you know where out tents are set up? I haven't gotten a chance to find mine yet."

"Yes, do you want me to walk you to your tent, Queen Sheila," I waved him off, standing up.

"No, don't worry about that. Just point me in the general area. Would you mind giving me a general idea of what my tent looks like?"

He stood up as well, he pointed in the direction of the tents. It wasn't that far away, though it was a bit hard to see in the rain. "That way, right in-between those two tents, head straight. Your tent in the big one, can't miss it." He told me, then bowed his head. He had green swirling horns and bright green eyes.

I held out a hand to him, his eyes flicker with surprise, "what's your name?"

"First Responder, Grepius Flunas, Queen Sheila," he grabbed my hand in shook it. So he was in the front line. My heart wavered at that. I would stand right next to him in the front line in order to protect him.

"I'll remember that," I smiled and let go of his hand. "Goodnight," I looked to the men and woman I just had shared dinner with, "have a nice night."

They stood and bowed their heads, "long live the linage of the dragons," they said in chorus. I nodded respectfully to them, then I turned and started to walk away.

Some of the men from surrounding camps walked over to the camp that I had just left from and questioned them, "was that Queen Sheila just now?" "What did you guys do?" "What was she like?" I just sighed a soft smile on my face as I headed towards my tent.

I found it with no problems and I fell asleep after I peeled my wet clothes all the way off my body. I probably had only slept for a few hours when drums started banging.

I jumped out of bed and grabbed all my armor putting them all on by the chucks. I don't think I had been this flexible in my life, I was putting a leg armor on at the same time I was putting on a arm.

Soon enough someone came rushing in, it was Xion. Before I could ask what was the matter, he spoke cruel, cruel, words.

"Herus' army has been ambushed, they are being forced into an attack, we have to pin Kolgrim in less than an hour or we will lose that entire army."

That is all that I needed to hear I shifted into my wolf form and bolted out of the tent.

I let out a mighty roar as I ran to the forming flanks.
